Captain Phil Suffers A Stroke On St Paul Island

I’ll be the first to admit that I am a fan of the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” cable series. As a matter of fact, I have all of the seasonal DVDs.

The breaking story today, from the New York Daily News:

Deadliest Catch‘ star Phil Harris is currently in hospital after suffering a stroke while unloading his boat.

The captain of the Cornelia Marie had a stroke while in port off-loading from his boat, a Discovery spokesperson told TMZ.

“He has been transported to a medical facility and is receiving the best care possible,” the rep said.

According to the Discovery web site, Harris has been working in the fishing industry for 32 years.

For the past 18, he has been captain of Cornelia Marie, a crew that includes his two sons, both deckhands.

The F/V Cornelia Marie has a dedicated website here (more information is there, as well). If inclined, you may leave your thoughts and well-wishes. You may also leave messages here.
Yes, Captain Phil smoked like a London factory, drank Red Bull by the case, but he’s one tough bastard; he’ll be in my prayers tonight. Please recover to stand in the wheelhouse of the Cornelia Marie once again, Captain Phil Harris.

  1. I have watched a number of the Deadliest Catch shows and enjoyed them. It’s a rough ride in the North Atlantic. I have a son-in-law who is a boat captain and he tells me that the hardest license to get is that of a North Sea Captain. I wish him well also.
