If You’re In DC, This Is Actual News:

But it certainly isn’t “news” to actual taxpaying citizens:

The combination of rising gasoline prices and the steepest increase in the cost of food in a generation is threatening to push the US economy into a recession, according to Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners.

Johnson looks at the percentage of income consumers are spending on gasoline and food as a way of gauging how consumers will fare when energy prices spike.

With gas prices now standing at about $3.90 a gallon, energy costs have now passed 6 percent of spending—a level that Johnson says is a “tipping point” for consumers.

“Energy is not quite as essential as food and water, but is a necessity in today’s economy, and when gasoline costs more than bottled water—like now—then it takes a huge bite out of disposable spending,” he said, in a research note.

But of course you’ll enjoy this next part:

What may make matters worse this time around, is there has been a steep increase in food prices that occurred as well. In other recent recessions food costs were benign, at between 7.5 percent and 7.8 percent of spending.

Mr Obama thinks your energy plight is laughable. His limo gets 8 mpg but, hey, he’s “got his.” You’ll just have to live yours. And keep paying those taxes.

I’ve pointed this out before and I’ll do it again:

Everything you eat, touch, utilize, manipulate, is mass-transported to you courtesy of a diesel engine. Most all bulk cargo ships have diesel engines. All locomotives have diesel engines. The larger highway trucks have diesel engines. Many smaller, local transport trucks have diesel engines.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that diesel fuel is even more expensive than premium unleaded. In Fornicalia, the “cheapest” ARCO fuel is $4.10 for regular unleaded. Diesel has cracked the $4.60 barrier. Five dollars per gallon, here we indeed come. And quite shortly.

I’m sure, now, you understand why food prices are rising. Plus: lost corn/grain crops to ridiculous Ethanol.

DC couldn’t care less about you and your pitiful prices. Keep scrabbling away and paying taxes, you maggots.

  1. BZ…
This is all by design, not even dumBO is stupid enough to believe this is being caused by caos in the middle east… When the masses are hungry and scared, they are easier to control…

    Two words “FOOD STORAGE”…

  2. The inflation of the 70’s, along with raiding Social Security and other trust funds, paid off the Vietnam war. Same scenario now with fewer trusts to invest in government bonds.

The dollar’s value abroad is diminished. In terms of constant dollar value, oil may actually be cheaper now.

Don’t see true value of our money doing anything but declining.

2012 – vote the bastards out and take the Federal Reserve OUT of private hands.

  3. I hope you had a nice Easter, BZ….

re oil…I’ve lived in Germany and am used to paying incredibly high gas prices but I sure don’t like it HERE!!
There is no way this is caused by the Middle East..
And now, of course, Obama’s going to have his minions looking into price gouging and corporations actually (gasp!) making profits on gasoline…..it’s all BLAME BLAME BLAME, as if this is going to really help us NOW?

  4. As one in the D.C. area, I can tell you that the amount of traffic on the roads here is diminishing. I attribute this slow-down to the rising gas prices (although I haven’t personally seen prices as high as those in this post’s graphic).

Of course, gasoline prices drive up the cost of food.

What I haven’t heard mentioned: the cost of running the public schools, specifically, the buses. Local budgets will get slammed! And local taxes will go up, too. **sigh**

Beyond the rising costs of gasoline, what is happening to the cost of heating oil? Many in the Northeast heat with oil! Some of cannot conserve any more than we’ve been doing for a long time. How will this household pay a double or triple fuel bill this coming winter. We can’t!

I did include that concern in my post today.

And all the Obama administration is doing is yapping about more conservation and possible investigation into price gouging. Pffft.

And here’s what got me flummoxed: Obama is coming out smelling like a rose as oil prices climb ever higher. I cannot recall a President ever getting off the hook like that!

  5. ….not to mention the price of kerosene too!! When I lived up north, that’s what I heated our last house with. It’s every bit as expensive as diesel now.

  6. And these EPA freaks just Denied Shell Drilling rights!
    From FOX
Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The leases alone cost $2.2 billion. Shell Vice President Pete Slaiby says obtaining similar air permits for a drilling operation in the Gulf of Mexico would take about 45 days. He’s especially frustrated over the appeal board’s suggestion that the Arctic drill would somehow be hazardous for the people who live in the area. “We think the issues were really not major,” Slaiby said, “and clearly not impactful for the communities we work in.”
The closest village to where Shell proposed to drill is Kaktovik, Alaska. It is one of the most remote places in the United States. According to the latest census, the population is 245 and nearly all of the residents are Alaska natives. The village, which is 1 square mile, sits right along the shores of the Beaufort Sea, 70 miles away from the proposed off-shore drill site.
The EPA’s appeals board ruled that Shell had not taken into consideration emissions from an ice-breaking vessel when calculating overall greenhouse gas emissions from the project. Environmental groups were thrilled by the ruling.

Yes, That is right. The EPA denied a 4 billion dollar project, that would bring down gas prices in this county and create thousands of high paying jobs because they did not calculate in the supposed Greenhouse Gas emissions of a SINGLE BOAT!!!

Obama and the EPA need to freaking GO!!!!!!

  7. Z: I do not believe these prices are solely the “responsibility” of “unrest” in the Middle East. I’d wager our little speculators are at it again.

AOW: because it’s still Bush’s Fault.

Scotty: kerosene, heating oil, an excellent point sir, indeed.

    BZ

  8. Timeline-
-Obama puts moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

-Owners of rigs there tow them to the West Coast of Africa and start drilling there. (They’re gone, maybe for good!)

-Obama gives $$$$ to Soro’s company in Brazil to help them deepwater drill. (Thank you BOSS!)

-Prices of oil go up because we’re buying more from outside sources.

As born again says, “… all by design…”

  9. If you are a chimp or a boon, living in Section 8 housing, eating off your welfare debit card, this does not make any difference. Just keep sending “them” their “gibs me dat” money and no race riots will happen!

This will be the threat that lights the match. Burn Baby Burn,,,this will be next.
I was in the 1965 Watts riot, old and retired now living in rural ranch country.
I expect more race problems as the tempers flare more every day.

VOTE Tea Party, Libertarian, but don’t vote for that obummer.

  10. CB: thank you, and you bring an excellent and pointed article to light. Stick with me on this.

Greybeard: and you too, sir, are on the right track. . .

Mr Chuck: the microsecond the checks stop, the fires begin; as with you, I am a firm believer in that. I can only hope I’m a RETIRED cop by then and I can watch that from a significant physical distance.

    BZ

  11. Everyone here is on track and moving in the right direction.

I’m going to connect all the dots in tomorrow’s post.

    Clarity, brevity, common sense.

Precisely the OPPOSITE of what you’re seeing in DC with the Obaka Administration. BUT, do NOT think there isn’t a purposeful AGENDA in taking their current destructive path.

    BZ

  12. I hope people will realize that Obama is not doing a darn thing to stop the gas prices from rising. He doesn’t care about the American people, as long as he and his cohorts are living comfortably and his food is being provided and his gas is being provided why should he care that the majority of us are in a bit of a panic.

We must vote this clown out and clean house from top to bottom.
