From The Herald News:
If you’re complaining about the price of gas and you’re only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know,” Obama said laughingly. “You might want to think about a trade-in.”
A 1978 Peterbilt tractor gets 8 mpg. A 2011 Bugatti Veyron gets 8 mpg. Most American vehicles get twice that, on their worst day. Here’s what 8 mpg really looks like:
Mr Obama’s newly-built Cadillac limousines, constructed on GM Top Kick truck chassis at a minimum cost of $350,000 each (there are more than three, shall we say), with a weight of 6 to 8 tons, showcasing a turbocharged diesel engine, get up to 8 mpg on a good day. I wonder why the number “8” stuck in his mind?
Mr Obama said laughingly; as in: my vehicles are exempt from federal regulations. I don’t have to conform to your petty mileage requirements. My fuel is free from my cars to my jets. I can have 747s at my beck-and-call. You serfs can go to Hell. Mr Obama thinks we need to suffer massive price hikes in gas anyway.
Ha ha ha. What a laugh. Ain’t that a knee-slapper! Groundlings will have to suffer and pay. Your regulations were not meant for the Imperious Me.
At the same time, Mr Obama wants to radically increase the number of electric vehicles in the nation — while, simultaneously — putting dampers on the construction of additional electrical generation stations.
He and the Religious Left say:
– No coal (dirty, comes from the ground)
– No oil (see above)
– No nuclear (see Japan)
– No windborne (kills birds)
– No water-powered (means more dams and reservoirs)
– No geothermal (not enough, too unstable)
– No solar power (eats too much arable land)
What’s left?
YOU. Pedaling a bicycle on a pulley system connected to some fan blades in summer.
Good luck with that.
No electrical generation stations. No drilling. On US soil or off US coasts. No desalinization plants for water. No refineries. No transport of oil. No utilizing advanced technology. No fair.
No development of further infrastructure.
Good luck with that.

Even a Lexus sedan purchased by your prototypical Welfare Cheat gets 22 mpg.
Mr Obama, wise up sir~

Hate to break it to you, but a ’78 Pete would be doing great to get 6 MPG, the newer, electronic motors of today can get 7-8 but those older mechanical motors couldn’t get 8 MPG coasting down Donner..
You might be right about the Elder Pete. But I acquired my California Commercial Class A license bones behind a 2003 Peterbilt 387 and had to do, of course, every Pre-Trip known to Man whilst working at EVOC. Doing so, I found that tractor acquired mostly 7 to 8 to 9 mpg. It was on that ugly (actually, in truth, I think the 387 is beautiful) bastard that I learned to shift clutch-less via rpm matching. Minimal double-clutching. It’s ALL about the rpm — as you well know. I found downshifting to be the hardest part for me. Sometimes, early, I had to come to a complete STOP in order to find my gear. Neophyte. But boy, I found, the 387 could power up some hills with a 54-foot van! The sheer power of those things surprised me entirely.
Nice tractors. Cheap sleepers.

I recently found a 2003 387 for sale in Kansas City for $16K and thought about buying it for a moment or two, until I realized I could either do that or put a roof on my wife’s house and/or purchase a new Triumph Rocket III.
I’m still cogitating, by the 387 has gone by the wayside.

How many m.p.g. does that big Boeing get?
Obummer has had no real life experiences.
Yes, he traveled the world at 21 as a Muslim foreign student on a foreign Indonesian passport.
No one has ever seen him accomplish anything we think American young men do or have done.
He has always been a pussy.
And guess what,,,,no one, I repeat NO ONE has ever seen him at any of the Universities that he says he has attended.
Manchurian Candidate??? hummmm
Good point- He’s looking at driving us to a third world economy in my opinion…
Mark Steyn said it best:
America, 2011: A man gets driven in a motorcade to sneer at a man who has to drive himself to work.
A guy who has never generated a dime of wealth, never had to make payroll, never worked at any job other than his own tireless self-promotion literally cannot comprehend that out there beyond the far fringes of the motorcade outriders are people who drive a long distance to jobs whose economic viability is greatly diminished when getting there costs twice as much as the buck-eighty-per-gallon it cost back at the dawn of the Hopeychangey Era.
Sums it up real nice if you ask me.
The BEST mileage I got on any of the “New” tractors I drove (84 Anteater, 86 Longnose Pete, 88 Freightshaker Conventional) was 7.5. That was, in fact, downhill, loaded with sailboat fuel, with a very stiff tailwind.
Most of the trucks I drove were older models, and if I touched 5 mpg I would celebrate.
Nowadays, I drive an Infiniti QX4 Road Rhino. It gets between 17 and 18 mpg. It’s paid off. The economics of trading it in for similar trailer pulling and fit-stuff-in-the-back capabilities is stupid – I would be making payments again, and maybe improve the mileage by 5 – 7% at the most.
No thanks, Mr. Obama. No wonder you have no idea what economics means.
Bushwack, you seem to forget our previous President who had everything given to him and was the biggest incompetent frat boy prick ever in the WH. Remember how he made jokes as the send mentally disable prisoners to their death as Governor? Remember the hundred of thousands he killed in his illegal war? Obama is far mmore qualified and has more accomplishments.
When GWB was in office, people often said that he was out of touch with the common man because he was elitist.
Any elitism that GWB harbored pales in comparison with BHO’s elitism.
bd: your typification of GWB can be appled, PRECISELY, to BHO. In every way. Further, he has the DEM/MSM in his pocket and — he has EMBRACED many of the EXACT SAME ideologies as GWB in re Guantanamo and bombing little bitty dark-skinned people. Sound familiar, bd? Bombing darker people to bits by remote control? THAT Mr Obaka? Sound familiar, bd? Keeping poor little turban-wearing dark-skinned people in purposeful seclusion so they can be REAMED by the American military? Sound familiar? War for oil? Brazil? Libya? Egypt? Sound familiar, bd?
AOW: and you just summarized what I wrote to bd above.
