In a 245 to 189 vote, the House voted to repeal ObamaKare on Wednesday.
Forty-six percent of Americans think the health care law is likely to cut jobs, 54 percent think it will hurt the economy, and 62 percent see it as increasing the federal deficit, according to a poll conducted January 13-16 by ABC News and the Washington Post.
In the process of civilly discussing the issue, Demorat Rep Steve Cohen of Tennessee compared the Republicans’ attempted repeal of ObakaKare to the Holocaust:
They say it’s a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels,” Cohen said. “You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That’s the same kind of thing. The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it–believed it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover,” Cohen said.
Inconveniently, he is wrong; dead wrong. And apparently “incivility” only occurs on the GOP side of the aisle. It was pointed out many months ago that, if ObakaKare was so critically important, why was there, at minimum, a four year lag before major installment? Many people can certainly die in the intervening years. But that wasn’t quite so critical. Things are critical when the Demorats say they are critical — like now — and not when they say so.
One bright light: the Republicans actually, for once, did what they promised during the elections, with their unanimous vote; not one GOP dissent. Symbolic or not, this is one step in the proper direction. And it shows to the Demorats that numbers mean something and, further, that some Demorats aren’t above jumping ship (three voted for the repeal: Mike Ross of Arkansas, Mike McIntyre of North Carolina and Dan Boren of Oklahoma).
The other very inconvenient fact is that twenty-six states are legally challenging ObakaKare — something not customarily printed or spoken in the DEM/MSM, oddly enough.
Harry Reid is going to avoid, like the plague, putting the repeal up for vote in the Senate because he doesn’t want to put His Minions on Front Street as voting against the repeal — publicly. It is said he will; in truth he’ll do his best for avoidance.
This is Step One.
There are o-so-many steps to go.
Do not release pressure on your local GOP politicians! Pressure ON.
BZ
You would think with such a majority of people and representatives that are objecting to Obamacare that Obama and his minions would get the message. But no, not stubborn, narcissist Obama.
I will not stop my faxes, calls and e-mails until this whole wretched mess is completely shut down.
Looks good on paper, without the Senate, it’s symbolic at best…
What’s funny is the dems on the house floor that voted against it. Their days in office are numbered… 3 Dems crossed the line. Which is more than the R’s did during the vote FOR Obamacare…
Now they leave it up to the senate. Time to FORCE that vote. Call senators in other states BZ, ours is an idiot…But there are Dems that could flip.
They did good, NOW the issue is to get the Senate to move… And you’re right, Reid will be obstructionist to the end.
Add this to the 72% of Americans who do not want the debt ceiling raised, and the compelling case of Congress NOT to fund things becomes clear. We have a government that takes in $2 trillion/year… and it gets it in 12 increments, one per month.
Do not spend more than you take in.
Pay for interest on past debt, first, so we stand in good stead with those holding our debt vehicles.
Get rid of the useless baggage of government as families across this Nation have done with their lives: Americans are paying off debt, now, and looking to live within their means and so should government. This will mean pain, but it will be for the Nation as a whole and lead us back to solvency. Too bad if stuff we once thought as useful has generated tons of regulations that even Obama can’t figure out… you don’t need to ‘streamline’ regulation via executive fiat, just remove the offending pieces by not funding them. And this is not ‘across the board’ cuts… that just leaves junk in place to expand in the future. We don’t need an FCC, EPA, Dept of Ag, Ed, Energy, FDA, NEA… nor do we need an SEC that is now above FOIAs or a Fed. Reserve that feels free to devalue our currency… nor a Freddie, Fannie, Sallie, or Ginnie.
Cut them out. Sell off their buildings and resources. Streamline government by removing it, not having the Executive decide what it likes and doesn’t like in the way of regulations as that is done by CONGRESS.
Spend on necessities, be thrifty, pay down debt and get rid of luxuries. We do it as a people, now our government is to follow its people. Or else 2012 looks to be a massive housecleaning of government that no elites will enjoy. You can do it now or it will be done for you later at higher cost and more pain.
IF the Republicans had any nuts they wouldn’t hold a vote on ANYTHING until the senate acted on the repeal. No Budget, No NOTHING until the senate acted. Remember “Republicans are Hostage Takers” make it true then.
Bush, I have no problem with that either, but BALLS and politicians, well, you know what I mean..
it shows to the Demorats that numbers mean something
Some Dems are mentally incapable of seeing that reality.
