I Couldn’t Have Been More Wrong

. . . and been happier about it.

New York Giants, 17.
New England Patriots, 14.

Coming into Super Bowl 42 with an 18 – 0 record, the New England Patriots, and Coach Bill Belichick specifically, made the team appear as nothing more than poor losers when, with :01 second on the clock, Belichick turned and walked away from the field and down the tunnel to the locker room. Belichick did not hold the field to even shake hands with NY Giants Coach Tom Coughlin or other players.

You not only lost the game, Patriots, you lost an astounding amount of street cred and, moreover, managed to earn the enmity of many an NFL fan tonight — myself included — with a puerile stunt like that.

My hat is off to the New York Giants, who simply outplayed the Patriots and deserved to win. And, oh yes, are clearly a classier act than the Patriots as well.

  1. Belichick in my opinion is the biggest idiot in sports. I obviously have some bias as a Jets fan but this move tonight was just so disgraceful. What kind of coach doesn’t even send his team on the field for their last play? His move tonight just makes me hate him even more.

  2. I dunno if it was an intentional slight, why the hell did the officials call the game then roll the clock back one second? kinda stupid on their part and that seemed to be the cause for the confusion. perhaps Belicheck was really annoyed at the officials for that stupid stunt.

  3. I found it very strange that Tom Brady was the guest host on SNL last night which is filmed live.

That meant that Brady was in New York last night and then got on a plane and flew to Arizona either today or last night to play in the most important game of his life.

The fame got to his head and the team paid the price, IMO.

He should have been in Arizona at least 2 days before the game. You can’t fly from New York to Arizona and walk unto a field and be 100%, it’s impossible.

Why the team would allow this is beyound me, they deserved to lose.

  4. I saw Bill B. shake the hand of the coach of NY? He pushed the official that was telling him there was time left out of the way to do it, then left the field. It was very unclassy,
but he did shake hands with the opposing coach.

    Ranando:
I don’t think Brady played any worse tonight than he did against SD or NYG the last time they played. The SNL issue isn’t really the reason they lost, it was because he had his girlfriend in the stadium.

They got out played, out coached and they didn’t have the luxury of piss poor calls, the officials did a damn good job of letting the teams play tonight.

NE should be congratulated on an EXCELLENT year, but PERFECTION was DENIED!

  5. Jeff: spot on. You’d think that, after FOUR Super Bowl wins the guy could show just an OUNCE of grace for not taking his fifth!

Mark: dunno about that part; was kind of odd. But annoyed or not, as Head Coach you simply Man Up and meet your better team on the field of play and shake their hands, wish them well. I’d say that, with 4 SB wins, the Patriots can certainly AFFORD that.

Ranando: I believe, like you, they began to believe their press — that they were invincible.

Bushwack: oops, missed that part then. And I saw was him jet off the field. That still wasn’t any kind of a class act. Also, that’s a very salient observation: the refs really didn’t get in the way of the game.

  6. BZ,
I am not into football these days because the KC Chiefs stink. BUT, that game last night was incredible. Eli and the defensive line should get MVP. What a game!

(Let’s hope Super Tuesday turns out to be NOT what everyone expects as well!)

  7. We where looking for the start of House and we caught a bit of Bill B’s post game interview, not pretty. Could not say a nice word about anyone, after that one the wikipedia entry for sore loser should have his picture at the top.

But as my wife sarcastically put it “If they can’t cheat, they can’t win”

Saturday night live hasnt been live since before the start of the writers strike. It was a rebroadcast, SNL is hardly worth watching to begin with let alone a RERUN.

  9. WMD is right it was a replay.

SNL aside. Bellychick was disgusting. His post game “interview” was him mimbling some asinine little statements like “blah, blah, balh, got the ball, blah, blah, blah.”

Not one even slight..”hey, they outplayed up big time and deserved to win, good for them.” He makes me want to puke.

If NE had won last night I was seriously thinking of switching to hockey as my favorite sport.

  10. off topic, but SNL is sad to watch for me, I think of the crew from the ’70’s and while there have been some great comic’s come from that show since, no crew ever was as good as the first.
