Iran to block the Strait of Hormuz in one month

Wake up. The LDAMM don’t want you to be aware. This is why. Important news takes a back seat to ATIP: Anti-Trump Identity Politics.

Focusing back, nothing moves particularly rapidly in the Muslim world, hence the headline.

What does inshallah mean? “If Allah wills.”

A convenient excuse for being late or early or whatever. That’s how the ME version of Islam works. It doesn’t operate on Western time frames. Period. That said, from Reuters.com:

U.S.-Iran tensions rise over oil route as EU tries to save nuclear deal

by Bozorgmehr Sharafedin

LONDON (Reuters) – The U.S. Navy stands ready to ensure free navigation and the flow of commerce, the U.S. military’s Central Command said on Thursday, as Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned they would block oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.

A blockade? It would seem potentially so. Continuing with Reuters.com:

With tensions rising over the strategic waterway, the European Union is proposing a plan for salvaging a multinational nuclear deal with Tehran after Washington withdrew, but Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told leaders in Paris and Berlin on Thursday that the package did not go far enough.

Rouhani and some senior military commanders have threatened in recent days to disrupt oil shipments from the Gulf countries if Washington tries to strangle Tehran’s exports.

Praising Rouhani’s “firm stance” against the United States, the head of the Revolutionary Guards said their forces were ready to block the Strait of Hormuz which links the Gulf to the open sea.

Again, it’s Trump vs Obama and Obama’s cementing of deals deleterious to the United States of America because, after all, Obama believed then and believes now that this country must “atone” for its prior myriad of faults.

In May, U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out of the deal under which sanctions on Iran were lifted in return for curbs to its nuclear program. Washington has since told countries they must stop buying Iranian oil from Nov. 4 or face financial measures.

Mohammad Ali Jafari, who commands the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran’s most powerful military force, responded on Thursday.

If Iran cannot sell its oil due to U.S. pressure, then no other regional country will be allowed to do so either, Jafari was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency. “We are hopeful that this plan expressed by our president will be implemented if needed,” he said. “We will make the enemy understand that either all can use the Strait of Hormuz or no one.”

Translated: no other Middle Eastern country. Hence, the blockade. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important choke points on the planet. This little salient bit:

The strait is the most important oil transit channel in the world with about one fifth of global oil consumption passing through each day.

The US would simply find that unacceptable for us and, of course, everyone else dependent upon Middle Eastern oil shipments.

Here was the issue six years ago.

It’s an issue of oil, and it’s an issue involving the freedom of waterways.

I hope Iran doesn’t believe our president isn’t resolute.

  1. Don’t know why you say it is not being reported. It is.

Not wanting to be a pedant but inshallal means “if Allah wills” there is no it.

Linking this post to a previous post…I wonder how many US citizens could even find the Straits of Hormuz on a map!

      • Hahahaha not just infants though. Am afraid the American general level of knowledge of the world is pretty poor.

  2. Iran’s leaders will learn they are up against a man who isn’t a pussy globalist coreligionist. The big question is our Navy up to the task? Has the eight years of Obama rot been reversed?

Compare the behavior of the sailors in that video with the behavior of the crew of the USS Pueblo.
A relative who made Master Chief in eighteen years just walked away from the Navy after 22 years. He is too disgusted to remain for thirty. He privately tells family he is far from alone.

    • The phrase “just saying” has always annoyed me. I searched for its meaning and, according to some urban dictionaries, it either means that a person is not prepared to defend their statement or it is a phrase used to water down an insult.

Now I know why the phrase annoys me!

      • Perhaps you would be less annoyed if one were to simply say flat out, ” You are wrong, and I don’t respect your opinion.”
        Just sayin.

Oh, come on, lighten up. Civil discussion is in the news these days precisely because people can’t just discuss things, not to win, but to learn. I often see this, in face to face discussions about the topics of the day that matter. The other person, when I am speaking, is not actively listening, but rather, is merely waiting and thinking, as to how they can jump in and give their own words, as if they are coming down from the top of the mountain, and their tongue is made of stone tablets.
Old NFO, my son was in the Straits of Hormuz last year, on sea duty aboard the USS Leyte Gulf. He told me of standing watch on the big machine guns, I forget which type, and watching small, fast Iranian boats coming within a few hundred yards of his ship, trying to cause an international incident. As it so happened, while my sons ship sailed into the Arctic, another ship had the Iranians get so close that they were forced to fire over the bow of them to force them to leave.
And my son also said that the Straits of Hormuz were amazingly busy with traffic from sea going vessels. He said that the entire crew and the Captain were all on edge the whole time they were there. He was glad to leave, and said that Norway, and Germany, and Scotland were all beautiful countries. But that while Norway treated the sailors fantastically, the Germans were off putting, and even though the Americans were spending money there, they treated the Americans like a problem that they wished would go away.

        • An observation: the Europeans have had the incredible ability to make their region a “social paradise” (not any more) precisely because they didn’t have to spend overbearing amounts of cash for their own defense. We did. The American Taxpayer. Fuck the Europeans. Let them PAY their OWN money for the things removed from MY pocket. Let them pony up the proper percentage for NATO.

          • Okay BZ, hope you are sitting down. I am going to agree with you, and the great Orange one, on a matter. 2% of GDP is the agreement that few countries fulfill. No 2% no article 5!

  3. https://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/middle-east/2018/07/05/Retreating-its-threat-Iran-says-Rouhani-did-not-mean-to-close-Strait-of-Hormuz-.html
After the Iranian president Hassan Rouhani hinted on Tuesday during his visit to Switzerland that Tehran could obstruct oil exports from neighboring countries if sanctions were imposed on Iran’s oil exports, it retreated from its threat….on the underlying threat behind Rouhani’s statement t to close the Strait, which was later backed by the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Qassim Soleimani, Iranian MP Bisha said that Rouhani did not mean by these words, to close the Strait of Hormuz.
He also stressed that Iran does not intend to violate international treaties, adding that “American actions against Iran is an example of Washington’s lack of respect for international treaties,” as he puts it.
So there you have it. Seems clear as mud to me. Confusion in the ranks of the Iranian parliament or intentional obfuscation? A trial balloon to see what the US reaction would be? Surely Iran realizes by closing the Strait this would have major consequences for ‘the world’. Therefore, surely ‘the world’ ought to make its displeasure known.
Perhaps Iran is seeking to sow division amongst the allies of the US in the Gulf region? Just sayin’. (in this instance, consider this to be more of a verbal shrug, as in, I have no expertise in this area and am just speculating)

  4. Then who are iran going to let through?
and how are they going to stop the boats from going through?
mines, missiles, attack boats, camel and goat blockers, antiefa, blm?

  5. Suggest Iran not mess with this POTUS. Block the strait and find your navy at the bottom of the Persian Gulf. DJT will give the order in a heartbeat and Mattis will have the pleasure of taking quick and decisive action.
