Iraq Pullout Vote Fails

WASHINGTON: Senate Democrats fell short this morning, after a rare all-night session, in their attempt to force President George W. Bush to begin withdrawing American troops from Iraq.

The measure, which called for troops to begin departing within 120 days, was defeated in a procedural vote on what is known as a cloture motion. It received 52 “yes” votes, to 47 “no” votes, but Senate rules require 60 yes votes to pass the motion, which would have prevented a Republican filibuster of the measure.

This brain-dead measure failed once more.

But the Democrats will be back.

  1. They see it as a “win-win” situation. They either get what they want or blame it on the GOP. They need to follow that old saying about being careful what you wish for.

  2. Shop: I think you have hit it PRECISELY on the head — that they think they’re sitting in the catbird seat — except when they’re not — and that, when the DO get what they want they may distinctly discover it settles well NOT AT ALL.

BULLETIN FOR AMERICA: By the way, by doing what he did, Harry Reid STOPPED a pay raise for the military last night/this morning. Were you all aware of that??

  3. And their poll ratings will continue to plummet as they are leading a do-nothing Congress!! I guess we should send them thank-you cards since this will only help insure Republicans getting back in control in 08.
