John Bolton For President?

Rumors indicate that Mr Bolton is thinking of making an announcement on Labor Day.

Trust me, I would seriously consider Mr Bolton in our current list of GOP/Conservative possibles.

Facebook has a Bolton For President site here.

Full article by Mr Bolton here, on Human Events.

I wrote about Mr Bolton here.

Your thoughts?

P.S.

I posit: if not a viable candidate for 2012, his name will be known and as such available for 2016.

  1. Hi, this is my first post here.

I am neither American nor live there (Brit/Spanish living in Gibraltar).

From what I understand the reality of getting elected comes down not so much as to being the person who makes the right noises for groups within the Conservative movement but the cadidate that can win the swing-voters – and that means being a bit more centrist.

The current line-up really has either Romney or Huntsman as being a candidate that can fit that bill. Personally, a Romney candidacy with Perry for VP would have the strongest chance.

Others, and Bolton would be included, are to far to the right for any swing-voters to follow and some on the far-fringe like Bachman or Cain, Cain or if you even include West’s name – would in fact guarentee Obama’s second term.

It is not what you want but what will work that counts. Obama was in fact not so popular amongst a large number of Democrat factions but they understood that you have to go for the candidate that can win. Unfortunately, I think the Republican Party is stuck – the Tea-Party element will make demands and not accept anything else and thus a unified and fully supported candidate may not appear.

Though sounding negative, we can hope that they get their act together or they may have to start looking for 2016 already.

    Anyhow, my two cents worth.

  2. I think that it is time for the conservative minded voting public to look at their candidates as chess pieces.

The left, which has become radicalized, does this very well. Because we lack the complicit apparatus of the press, feel good emotional candidates will never be effective. In fact strong evidence suggests that the press is now selecting our candidates for us. (Bachmann for example)

The left currently has the power to install a candidate such as Obama, into the white house. His race was his voter appeal strength as Bachmann’s gender is for her. Neither, I believe, fit for the oval office. The difference is the power of press manipulation.

We need to select, with great dispassion our pieces. If we loose (not just the election) this game (2012-2016) we are screwed.

With that said, I would like to see Bolton as Secretary of State.

BZ posted this a good while back.

Imagine any other candidate articulating the same points.

The real dispassionate choice is obvious in my mind; and the press is burying him.

The first thing done under the Obama administration was the repeal of the Contract With America. Justice is poetic. Let’s see that it happens.

  3. “With that said, I would like to see Bolton as Secretary of State.”

I find that comment interesting. I know a lot of US State Department officers and every one of them said that when Bolton was sacked from the UN job there was champaign cork popping and a huge sigh of relief that was only equaled when Rice left. Bolton is most certainly tough, sticks to his agenda but in the eyes of diplomacy and international relations it could be argued that he set back the US’s relations and reputation globally.

  4. Infinity: are you writing of Ron Paul? I cannot tell you how many RP trolls have hit my site with F and S words in comments, calling me every name in the book if I don’t publish their thoughts. So I haven’t.

I can’t say that I disagree with Paul regards auditing the Fed. I concur wholeheartedly. But I can’t yet strike us totally Isolationist, though I DO agree that, unless we step up and start leveling the actual enemy, we need to vacate Iraq, Afghanistan and certainly Libya.

  5. BZ, I was told that Bolton did things his way and ignored and even avoided State advice and instructions. He used the excuse that he represented the Administration not the State Department which many Heads of Mission have done. Also he avoided the consept of protocol, was not a negotiator but rather said that “we do it this way regardless”.

Sure I am certain that he rubbed the wrong way with the old style that diplomats have used over the years but he certainly pissed-off an entire government department that regardless of the way we think, does a lot of hard work (albiet in their style).

One area that we may well disagree with is also that Bolton took (and still does) the concept of American Exceptionalism to heart. That may sound great from a patriotic and nationalistic view from Americans (remember I am not), but everyone else (the rest of the world) hates it and considers it to be arrogant. Yes the US has the largest economy, the strongest military and makes a difference but when you use terms like “the World’s policemen” and that “we are the greatest nation”, I can guarentee you that it only annoys everyone else.

I hope my comment is taken for what it is, I do think the US is a great nation, but there is no greatest and am I wrong not to love and respect my own?

  6. D Charles QC:

But, at first blush, it sounds like Bolton bucked the system and then was hoisted on the petard OF the system.

And yes, sir, I take your comment for what it is.

But if America pulls OUT of the national and planetary venue, then I submit that the planetary venue is doomed to crash.

    Prove me wrong.

The WORLD goes as goes the US.

Whilst, on the other hand, NOT taking country-after-country as was its DUE! “To the victor go the spoils”? Not.

  7. BZ, all valid points.

I actually like your comment about what if America “pulled out” of the world’s affairs, because logic says that yes the collapse would be catastrophic. Mind you if tomorrow Europe dissapeared I think much the same would happen and if China or Japan did, similar events would occur.

Having said that, as we are talking at this level, what “rights” does that give America over others? Also, if we use the “spoils” concept, then we should have no arguments against the Ghaddafis and Saddam Husseins of this world and Burma or North Korea, Syria and Iran should be given credit due for being able to continue control over their people?

  8. I was referring to Newt Gingrich.
While I know many do not like aspects of his personal life, I cannot dismiss his keen intellect, his experience, proven track record (on a national level), disdain for the vapid press, and recent comments regarding the disconnect between inside the beltway and the rest of the country.

The link I copied from one of your archived posts concerns his views on Sharia. No other candidate has articulated their positions like Newt. They simply cannot.

His Wikipedia profile, and a review of a few of the many videoed interviews on many issues, should prove convincing.

Want to make the left s all over themselves? Elect Newt. Boehner will cry a river.

It’s just my opinion but I can see no other logical choice.

  9. Infinity: Newt; I am certainly of two minds about him. The greatest negative is that he is, at base, an elder DC suit. He knows his history, he writes a good book, he had some good ideas, but he moves into areas where I am uncomfortable.

D Charles QC: I have enjoyed the repartee and you, sir, are welcome any time and every time you visit. These are great and wide ideas for consideration. This may be silly, but if you are ever in the US and, specifically, California, please e-mail me. I’d enjoy meeting you.
