I’ve noticed that those hits from outside the United States usually, according to Live Traffic Feed, have clicked on older posts or general posts from 2007, 2008, 2009. They don’t seem to visit individual posts or recent specific posts as do the bulk of my US readers. What might account for this? I wondered if these international visits were an attempt to insert spam into comments but that doesn’t appear to have occurred.
Anyone have any insight as to international hits and why they occur when and where they do?
To my silent international readers: why are you clicking on me? Why are you here? Do you visit or consult the blog or have you merely accomplished various one-time drive-bys? Do you return? Why or why not? Please make yourselves known and comment. I would love to read your thoughts and opinons. It is clear that I receive many international hits.
Second:
I have a strange little request for those who read my blog.
I am on the cusp of the 5-digit mark of those who have clicked on my profile for the blog.
At last look I had around 9,900 views of my profile.
For some reason, 10,000 or 11,000 hits is something I’d like to achieve before the end of the year. If I could even achieve that before the end of the month, that would be significant. To me at least. Call me addled, call me OCD.
Can you do me a favor? Each time you visit the blog, can you also click on VIEW MY COMPLETE PROFILE to get me over the top, please?
I mean, is this weird or what?
BZ
Quid pro quo BZ. Head over to my blog and give me some feedback on a post and the new design and you got it.
BZ,
Drive-bys are a plague on everybody. I don’t know whaat they’re looking for, but they cruise by. As for your request, I’ll add to it. Is it really that the US still drives all public opinion, even in the new media?
There you go, old hoss, I read your profile. I understand the request, I wish people who read my blog would comment, have a side discussion, tell me my words made their day, something. Instead I write, and feel like I am hollering down the well.
um your over…..it said 10,003 when I got there.
And your tracker should show you what search they used to get to the page they were on. Either a picture or a phrase that matched something in the post. I get a lot of visits for specific pictures believe it or not. lol
Two TexasFred Answers, well, 1 answer and a smart-ass remark:
1. The international hits are coming from search engines and specific words related to a search…
Remember what I told you about calling him Obama? Kate never did catch on to that… You’ll double your hits with accurate story titles and TAGS… A lot of the hits are tags… But titles like Pfftt, Kate actually used that.. Well, like that’s gonna garner a ton of searches and search engine hits…
2. 10K?? I’m heading towards a 600K, and would love to have a million soon… 🙂
BZ, it’s not about numbers, unless you are wanting to go commercial, it’s all about the QUALITY of the blog, and Brother, you have quality that is 2nd to NONE!
Just visited your profile and you were at 10019…
I think those clicks are spam. At least, mine seem to be but they try to leave messages, which is one of the reasons I moderate.

I get my share of foreign hits, too, and rare comments. I’ve done some inlink backtracking and find they are from Iranian and UK sites (by and large, although sites from India, Ukraine and Israel also show up). Basically go to a search engine and check your inlinks…
Got your hits from me today!
I keep zero track of site views and only check inlinks sporadically. I’m writing mostly for myself and those that come after us… always have, always will.
Not weird, at all. And if I remember I will click on your profile.
Btw, I believe I changed the comment format.
I’ll help ya over the top…I think all the foreign readers may be Americans abroad or people doing some research on this or that and sometimes we’re the only ones who talk about some things the media ignores.
No idea BZ, although a couple from Italy were me in the last three weeks, but I couldn’t comment…
Thanks for your help folks!
BZ
BZ,
I clicked on your profile and saw that you’re now over the 10,000 mark. WOOT!
I rarely check my site meter. Maybe I should check it?
Yeah, I know it’s weird. Anyone have ideas about the out-of-country hits?
BZ
BZ- I want to say thank you to you, as you are one of my only regular commentors on
http://abigailanddolley.blogspot.com
Your feedback is always appreciated and like ASM826 it makes me feel like I am not yelling down a well! You also pushed me this summer when I was not blogging to get back to it, so thanks.
As far as the international hits, mine are all Chinese Spammers and I am thankful that Blogger has installed a spam filter that is catching these things. I had to install full comment moderation because of them.
I don’t monitor my activity on my site very often, but did the other day and was shocked that a piece I did on Detroit last December gets about 50 hits a day, which for my little blog is pretty big! The comments that come on that article are really funny. Mainly they just call me a shithead for pointing out the failures of liberal policy while not “blaming” the auto industry.
So thanks again, BZ, for your comments and your blog. I love both of them!
OK. OK. OK! I admit it. I am in Poland. Stand down from DEFCON 4, Homes.
