UK Healthcare Changing Towards American Model; Obama Still Wants Unworkable UK Model:

Just as Mr Obama and his sniveling jackanapes want government-controlled healthcare for the entire nation — completely eliminating private healthcare insurance and with vacuous gubmint bureaucrats and bean-counters determining your healthcare future — the UK has now decided to move away from that model.

At this point you’re likely saying: “But wait, BZ, that can’t be true. You mean to say that the Europeans seem to be learning lessons from their various experiments with Socialism and are discovering that, in general, it busts budgets and cheapens lives?”

Yes, I say.

And further, you’re thinking: “Yet, despite all that, our own federal politicians are providing clear indications that not only are they Tone Deaf but, further, they are entirely incapable of learning anything from history — even recent history?”

Yes, I say.

Read this, if you would be so kind, about the UK’s newest National Health Service move:

LONDON — Perhaps the only consistent thing about Britain’s socialized health care system is that it is in a perpetual state of flux, its structure constantly changing as governments search for the elusive formula that will deliver the best care for the cheapest price while costs and demand escalate.

Even as the new coalition government said it would make enormous cuts in the public sector, it initially promised to leave health care alone. But in one of its most surprising moves so far, it has done the opposite, proposing what would be the most radical reorganization of the National Health Service, as the system is called, since its inception in 1948.

Practical details of the plan are still sketchy. But its aim is clear: to shift control of England’s $160 billion annual health budget from a centralized bureaucracy to doctors at the local level. Under the plan, $100 billion to $125 billion a year would be meted out to general practitioners, who would use the money to buy services from hospitals and other health care providers.

Read that again: “to shift control of England’s $160 billion annual health budget from a centralized bureaucracy to doctors at the local level.”

Continuing:

In a document, or white paper, outlining the plan, the government admitted that the changes would “cause significant disruption and loss of jobs.” But it said: “The current architecture of the health system has developed piecemeal, involves duplication and is unwieldy. Liberating the N.H.S., and putting power in the hands of patients and clinicians, means we will be able to effect a radical simplification, and remove layers of management.”

Read that again: “Liberating the NHS and putting power in the hands of patients and clinicians, means we will be able to effect a radical simplification, and remove layers of management.”

And yet Mr Obama and a good portion of the House have made it clear they are for nothing more than government controlled and rationed health care.

The United Kingdom and Canada are finally beginning to realize that a government controlled healthcare system is unworkable, too costly and inefficient.

In America, ObamaKare is solely and purposely agenda driven. Saving lives, reducing costs? Not the end game in mind with DC. No. It is about power and control.

This recent course change by the UK proves, again, that the Obama regime in Washington is not only unsustainable (to utilize one of their own favorite buzzwords) but nonsensical.

The current federal administration couldn’t care less about you, the American Taxpayer.

And if you older folk die and those in need don’t acquire their meds or operations, well, that’s just the cost of “wealth distribution” and bringing America down to its “proper” place in the world.

Sacrifices have to be made. Mr Obama couldn’t care less if it’s you.

  1. I’m glad you blogged this UK story cuz I was going to and you did it better than I.
BZ, there are still people who honestly believe GERMANS HAVE FREE HEALTHCARE, so it’s going to be difficult to get them to understand the truth about ANYTHING let alone how expensive OURS is going to be under Obama’s plans. Like PJ O’Rourke said YEARS ago “If you think your healthcare is expensive now, wait till it’s free.” The cost is bad enough, but the implications of how GOOD the care will be are even MORE horrifying. At least German health care is quite wonderful. Why can’t we copy the good things about their care, not adapt the WORST?$$

Yes, Mr. Z (a German citizen) used to say of this country, America, which he loved SO SO VERY MUCH, “Why is America following failing policies of Europe? I can’t believe this! Don’t they see it hasn’t worked?”
    no, they don’t.
With kids in charge, how can things go right for us?

  2. “to shift control of England’s $160 billion annual health budget from a centralized bureaucracy to doctors at the local level.”

Can you imagine the logistics of going BACK after all these years of disaster? It will be horrible. It must be done. And here in the US the WORST president ever goes full steam ahead.

    Disgusting. VOTE VOTE VOTE

  3. Z, say what you will about Bush, when he and his administration left the White House, it’s the same as if the adults left the table and allowed the kids, who used to sit aside at the card table, to run the kitchen.

There are damned FEW adults in DC these days and, yes, on BOTH sides of the aisle.

  4. Isn’t it ‘mental’ how these people are on a path to suicide and they won’t listen to anyone about anything.

They think they’ve built the ‘ultimate liberal mousetrap’ while those who’ve been there know it doesn’t work even on much smaller scales.

They’re like looters who break into Walmart after a disaster and can’t wait to start stealing and burning shi*!

I’ve said a number of times I have MS, and my doctors, [three of the world’s top neurologists] are ‘quitting medicine if this thing isn’t overturned’ they’ve informed me when I quiz them on visits, which I did 2 just last week.

And they know this in DC. They’ll just import them all from the third world and unionize em all.

‘Hello Mr American …I am Dr Jabooty Dum Bass”

  5. Shifting control out of centralized systems requires one thing: defunding it.

    The rest is paperwork.

Lots of paperwork, yes, but sovereign governments do have that power and there is NO way to get back at it. For the US civil workforce it means that those who had jobs in defunded areas then get to see if they can displace others with similar jobs in other agencies…seniority rules. What that means is that you shuffle high level skills around and then get a generally less competent, higher overhead workforce…

And since Obamacare and the Finance Reform bills haven’t gone into effect, thus creating those huge offices, defunding them gets you ZERO of those displacements.

    Defund if you cannot repeal.

And for parts you don’t want, don’t fund them at all. I suggest the USDA, Dept. of Energy, Education, Federal Reserve, cut off the life-line to Fannie/Freddie/Ginnie/Sallie, no funding for the IMF/UN/World Bank….and propose a ‘Grand Bargain’ on SSA and Medicare/Medicaid.

If you draw on SSA you get it.

If you don’t, then you can take off what you put into the system in your taxes until that is exhausted. FICA goes away and SSA draws from general funds.

Medicare/Medicaid get added up, divided by 2, that block granted to the States and that block grant system decreases so as to end in 5 years.

    Then close HHS.

This gets you the massive tax breaks of SSA payments, removal of FICA, and the draw-down of medical ‘aid’ until it is all back at the State level to figure out.

Basically with so much taxation gone, the US economy gets a massive boost, a lot of taxpayers can look forward to paying NO federal taxes for some years, and we then end the debt problem by stopping the spending, permanently.

Right now SSA, Medicare and Medicaid eat up ALL revenue. The rest, including interest on the debt, is financed through new debt. That must end… or we go down into bankruptcy as a Nation and get that result, anyways. Plan on it and do it, that saves the heartache.

  6. It is never about the money and always about the power… it can be stopped but only by stopping the money flowing into the agencies and departments that are sucking it up. That requires Congress NOT to pass spending authorization for those parts of government. Then they do just die… and for stuff that hasn’t stood up yet, not funding them is the quickest way to suffocating them.

It is not about what has passed, to hand power over to the Executive, but the implementation of it by funding it. All the power in the world doesn’t do you any good if you can’t exercise it.

  7. Frankly I spent 1998 to 2008 severely crippled to the point of 3 of those years spent in and out of a wheelchair only to give up all the recommended regimen’s for simple smoking Marijuana a bit a day about 1 year ago and started walking unaided and lost 100 lbs from 265 to 170 today.

that’s it in a nutshell. I hate anything to do with the gman coming into the med field because the medical people don’t even get it right..

medicine today isn’t geared for cures and improvement it’s geared towards lifetime chronic management with expensive and yet worthless drugs and therapies.

At one time I was taking shots for 5 years at 2500 a month…. and I’m a living example of doing the opposite of what they told me to do, and that working.

that’s the abridged version BZ 😉

  8. PS

Two things I left out…I’m against medicinal marijuana use the way California has let it go wild, and I have the best dr’s in the world who have warned me (and we’re close friends the 3 of us) they’re leaving medicine if this isn’t repealed.

they and my plain stubborn hard work are what who got me walking again against all prognoses, not welfare or disability or Obama.

  9. you can delete this one but they claim of course Multiple Sclerosis is incurable. I’m walking normal and unaided when they said prepare for a life in a wheelchair and I was there.

  10. Don’t you love that they plan to shift control back to local doctors. We have to repeal this unconstitutional bill. We have to refuse the “tax” since the issue is no longer the Commerce Clause. I am praying for the Supreme Court.

  11. Mr. Z – That is correct. Without bureaucrats to enforce it, the powers cannot be enforced nor the law be enforced. Without enforcement bureaucracy, there are no forms to get, no procedures to go through… there is nothing that the federal government can do when Congress will not fund it.

That goes not just for O-Kare but for every federal government agency and department. The IRS needs to create forms, procedures and have people to implement them: don’t fund the people and it doesn’t happen.

The simple route out is: stop spending.

The place to start that: Congress.

Once without chunks of the bureaucracy showing up to do things, the people can then decide if any parts unfunded are necessary AT ALL.

That is the greatest power Congress has over the US government: don’t fund it. And, yes, Agenices and Departments set up by Congress have died just for that reason… a few of them from the FDR period. It can be done prior to removing the Congressional authorization for such things, they do not need to be simultaneous. If Congress is ‘nice’ it can put out a minimum of closing down funds to help make it orderly so that the GAO can sell off the parts that aren’t going to be used any more.

O-Kare can die as its born. A fitting end for it given what went on to get it passed.
