Why is it that American politicians abhor moustaches?

And why is it that Americans don’t seem to vote for male politicians with moustaches?

This, of course, does not apply to Helen Thomas or to Janet Reno. Theirs were tacitly accepted. As well as Janet Napolitano’s. They are not included as the focus of this post.

So there you go: a bias against male moustaches in politics.

It wasn’t so terribly long ago that most male politicians had moustaches, goatees, full beards and, perhaps, even long hair.
