Box Of Rocks: Duck Taped

It’s Saturday night as I write this, late, very late, with my Jack Russell Brewing Company clear glass mug filled with White Zinfandel. Sorry for the horrifying conflict but that’s my nature.

At this point I’ve backed up a good seven posts ahead of today with topics I can’t wait to address. Nevertheless, I write them early at the risk of their freshness being spoiled by the next day’s news. With a blog, if you’re like me, you certainly begin to appreciate the pressure created with your miniscule attempts to keep your bit piece of the Blogosphere current, relevant and timely. But, yea, here’s the rub that I expect you encounter along with me:

I actually have a job. I do my best to keep my blog timely. But with few exceptions I realize I’ll likely not be breaking any major news upon my site. I simply do not possess the time, what with the realities of work, Life, my wife, my family, various obligations and the variables that I cannot ever remotely anticipate.

Some bloggers make multiple posts daily. God bless them; perhaps that’s their only job. I myself am challenged to make a single post per day. At this point, I try to post my next day’s entry no later than 7 or 8 pm the previous day. I work on Pacific Daylight Time, because I live high in Fornicalia’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. Recognizing this, and accounting for the three-hour difference in coasts, and knowing that some of my readers start their day three hours AHEAD of me, it’s tough to make my posts nationally relevant. It’s like I’m perenially fighting the time differential Power Curve.

And so it is with national news. If I, a little winky blogger, am struggling with the factor of relevancy, then all the various applicable news agencies are stuck (but much worse) in the same predicament.

Do you find yourself challenged to make daily posts?

And further (or perhaps you’ve not considered this), do you vet your bloglinks as I do? I must admit, I am finding myself continuously challenged with the vetting of my Usual Suspects list. Some of the persons I’ve included in The Usual Suspects have turned out to be infrequent posters. Do I eliminate them because they do not adhere to the schedule I’ve held for myself? What do my readers want? Daily or frequent updates? This is indeed a dilemma. A number of blogs on the U.S. list publish infrequently — or sometimes, now, once every couple of months. Can I afford this inactivity? Is it time to eradicate or clear my Usual Suspects list due to low posting? I am thinking so. With my hectic lifestyle I still manage to upload a daily post. Why should my intimate blogroll be any different?

I am thinking, these days: no. After three years of very slow development, a constant and steady pace, consistency, dependability, I am finally into the Marauding Marsupial and Large Mammal borders. I have guided and nurtured and attempted to portray to my readers that I am definitely in this game for the long run. Most creators, statistics show, abandon their blogs after no more than a month’s presence on the internet. And this, I am proud to say, DESPITE the fact that I am a complete HTML idiot; that is to say, I adopted a Blogger template and, with a few exceptions (thanks to Bush and TF!) it remains relatively unchanged to this day.

In terms of blogs, I am a Throwback. I am primeval, a Cretaceous kind of blog.

There are SO many things I’d like to do with my blog. I’d like to have a different header every week — a different photograph. I’d like to make my blog wider, so that it could accommodate more words per line, and photographs could likewise be wider and larger.

I’d like the portions to the left and to the right of the text of my blog be available for various blogrolls, ads, photos, information, etc.

I’d like my blog to, generally, look more professional and to be more fluctuous — that is to say, subject to frequent updates, physical changes, new looks, etc.

But, because I am in fact the ORIGINAL HTML idiot, that will likely not occur this year. I, however, hope to rectify those problems next year. Whereas BlogWorldExpo occurred in Las Vegas this year, I hope to locate its destination next year and actually attend.

I’d like to update the general look of my blog. And I’d like to make available a podcast of the former week’s news on my blog, narrated in stellar form by myself in my native dialect.

Ah yes. And I’d also like to win the lottery.

One thing I’d wish to point out: do all my readers realize that I live on a dial-up account? When various blogs post videos or podcasts or active GIFs, etc., do you realize that I cannot generally see your videos? I cannot generally even access your high-res posts?

Such is life in The High Mountains. On a good day my world = 54.6 kbps.

Bottom line: I am still literally amazed at the amount of readers I have for the primeval blog I portray to the world — I have 3,053 hits on my profile. But if you wonder: “Why is it that this guy’s blog is so visually boring?” — well, at least, now you know.

Maybe next year.

Or not.

ISRAEL DIES

I admittedly don’t understand Israel then.

And I don’t understand Israel now.

Why is it that Edud Olmert would say:

In unusually frank comments, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned in an interview published Thursday that “the state of Israel is finished” if a Palestinian state is not created, saying the alternative was a South African-style apartheid struggle.

The explosive reference to apartheid came as Olmert returned from a high profile peace conference in Annapolis, Md., hoping to prepare a skeptical nation for difficult negotiations with the Palestinians.

BLUNT:

Let me be blunt: Israel is the only Western civilization extant within hundreds and hundreds of miles of surrounded barbarism. Allowing a so-called “Palestinian” state to exist within any Israeli border guarantees Israeli deaths. Guarantees. Period. Small children. Infants. Young adults. Deaths. Many of them. Guaranteed.

Give up Gaza,

Give up the West Bank.

Give up portions of Jerusalem.

That will not be enough.

It will NEVER be enough.

Here is enough: when EVERY Jew is killed or removed or eliminated from any and all Middle Eastern territories.

Words to Isreal: you are about to sign your death warrant.

Please reconsider this.

Best Movie Bad Guys

A few of my choices, in something of a semblance of an order:

1. HANNIBAL LECTER:
Classic. Absolutely classic. From the Thomas Harris book, “Silence of the Lambs,” the 1991 movie of the same name exhibits the quintessential Lecter. Anthony Hopkins deserved his Oscar and then some. He wasn’t huge, he wasn’t muscular, he wasn’t physically ugly.
Hannibal Lecter: Now then, tell me. What did Miggs say to you? Multiple Miggs in the next cell. He hissed at you. What did he say?
Clarice Starling: He said, “I can smell your cunt.”
Hannibal Lecter: I see. I myself cannot. You use Evian skin cream, and sometimes you wear L’Air du Temps, but not today.

2. BRIG. GENERAL JACK D. RIPPER:
Sterling Hayden’s ultimate role. From the 1964 black & white movie “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb.” Directed by Stanley Kubrick in a semi-documentary style (and borrowing from the 1958 novel “Red Alert” by Peter George), Gen. Ripper sent his entire nuclear-armed B-52 wing beyond their fail-safe points and into Soviet airspace due to the pollution of our national precious bodily fluids.
General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you recall what Clemenceau once said about war?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No, I don’t think I do, sir, no.
General Jack D. Ripper: He said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

3. DET. NORMAN STANSFIELD
From the 1994 film “The Professional,” Stansfield is a drug-snorting, unkempt, over-the-top DEA operative responsible for numerous killings. Gary Oldman’s portrayal is simply superb.
Mathilda: You killed my brother.
Stansfield: I’m sorry. And you want to join him?
Mathilda: No.
Stansfield: It’s always the same thing. It’s when you start to become really afraid of death that you learn to appreciate life. Do you like life, sweetheart?
Mathilda: Yes.
Stansfield: That’s good, because I take no pleasure in taking life if it’s from a person who doesn’t care about it.

4. TOMMY DeVITO:
Joe Pesci takes the Small Man Complex to its penultimate step. From the 1990 film “Goodfellas,” Pesci’s classic lines:
Tommy DeVito: You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it’s me, I’m a little fucked up maybe, but I’m funny how, I mean funny like I’m a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I’m here to fuckin’ amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
Henry Hill: Just… you know, how you tell the story, what?
Tommy DeVito: No, no, I don’t know, you said it. How do I know? You said I’m funny. How the fuck am I funny, what the fuck is so funny about me? Tell me, tell me what’s funny!
Henry Hill: [long pause] Get the fuck out of here, Tommy!
Tommy DeVito: [everyone laughs] Ya motherfucker! I almost had him, I almost had him. Ya stuttering prick ya. Frankie, was he shaking? I wonder about you sometimes, Henry. You may fold under questioning.

5. BILLY SCORE
Henry Silva’s role as Score in 1981’s “Sharky’s Machine” just barely edges out his role of Kurt Zagon in the 1988 Steven Seagal movie “Above The Law.” It would appear that Oldman used the drug-addled Score as the basis for his role as Stansfield. Henry Silva was and still is one of the world’s finest bad guys. From “Above The Law“:
Kurt Zagon: [prepares a syringe] You know, I use these things to extract useful information. But for the first time, I’m going to use them just for fun. [Kurt’s guards hold Nico still and Kurt injects Nico in the leg with the syringe. Nico squirms even harder]
Kurt Zagon: Yeah. That’s it! That’s it. Race it through your system. [Nico stops squirming and slumps down in his chair]
Kurt Zagon: Toscani? Toscani! [Nico looks back up weakly]
Kurt Zagon: There you are, my friend. Man, you should have killed me when you had the chance to. You were too fucking dumb, you asshole!

6. TIM STRAWN:
Lee Marvin doubled in the 1965 film “Cat Ballou” as both Kid Shelleen and Tim Strawn, he of the silver nosepiece — and won an Oscar for same. Some things you didn’t know about Marvin: He was a direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson and twice a descendant of male line relatives of George Washington. He was Spielberg’s first choice for the role of Quint in Jaws (1975). He was named after Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, who was his second cousin three times removed. Marvin also turned down the lead role of Gen. George S. Patton Jr. in Patton (1970).
My favorite Marvin quote:
Tequila. Straight. There’s a real polite drink. You keep drinking until you finally take one more and it just won’t go down. Then you know you’ve reached your limit.

7. MR. BLONDE
Michael Madsen’s portrayal of Mr. Blonde in 1992’s “Reservoir Dogs” was grisly and yet stellar. You absolutely dreaded the scene with Blonde and the police officer. This was Quentin Tarantino’s directorial and writing debut.
Mr. Blonde: Listen kid, I’m not gonna bullshit you, all right? I don’t give a good fuck what you know, or don’t know, but I’m gonna torture you anyway, regardless. Not to get information. It’s amusing, to me, to torture a cop. You can say anything you want cause I’ve heard it all before. All you can do is pray for a quick death, which you ain’t gonna get. [He removes his razor]
Mr. Blonde: You ever listen to K-Billy’s “Super Sounds of the Seventies” weekend? It’s my personal favorite.

8. EVELYN
The original crazy bitch stalker, Jessica Walter’s portrayal of Evelyn in Clint Eastwood’s 1971 film “Play Misty For Me” is the celluloid gold standard. Even 1987’s “Fatal Attraction” with Glenn Close as Alex Forrest pales in comparison.
Evelyn: Don’t you like me?
David ‘Dave’ Garver: You’re a nice girl.
Evelyn: But who needs nice girls?
David ‘Dave’ Garver: I’m kind of hung up on one.
Evelyn: And you don’t want to complicate yourself.
David ‘Dave’ Garver: That’s exactly right.
Evelyn: Well neither do I, but that’s no reason we shouldn’t sleep together tonight if we feel like it.

9. BULLET TOOTH TONY
The 2001 movie “Snatch” features Vinnie Jones as BTT and, as we all know, England’s Jones makes a fabulous Bad Guy on any film at any time. A small bit of trivia: Jones is eternally banned from any flight on Virgin Atlantic Airlines for causing a fight on a flight to Tokyo. Another great “heavy” role: McStarley in 2007’s release of “The Condemned.”
Bullet Tooth Tony: So, you are obviously the big dick. The men on the side of ya are your balls. There are two types of balls. There are big brave balls, and there are little mincey faggot balls. Vinny: These are your last words, so make them a prayer.
Bullet Tooth Tony: Now, dicks have drive and clarity of vision, but they are not clever. They smell pussy and they want a piece of the action. And you thought you smelled some good old pussy, and have brought your two small mincey faggot balls along for a good old time. But you’ve got your parties mangled up. There’s no pussy here, just a dose that’ll make you wish you were born a woman. Like a prick, you are having second thoughts. You are shrinking, and your two little balls are shrinking with you. And the fact that you’ve got “Replica” written down the side of your gun… [Zoom in on the side of Sol’s gun, which indeed has “REPLICA” etched on the side; zoom out, as they sneak peeks at the sides of their guns]
Bullet Tooth Tony: And the fact that I’ve got “Desert Eagle point five O”… [Withdraws his gun and puts it on the table]
Bullet Tooth Tony: Written down the side of mine… [They look, zoom in on the side of his gun, which indeed has “DESERT EAGLE .50” etched on the side]
Bullet Tooth Tony: Should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now… Fuck off!

10. DR. CHRISTIAN SZELL
Sir Laurence Olivier simply excelled in the 1976 film “Marathon Man.” I can recall watching this movie with my brother and absolutely cringing when the scene emerged displaying Dustin Hoffman sitting in the chair with Olivier hovering over him, dental tools in hand. The phrase “Is it safe?” still resonates in my brain housing group.
Christian Szell: Is it safe?… Is it safe?
Babe: You’re talking to me?
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Is what safe?
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: I don’t know what you mean. I can’t tell you something’s safe or not, unless I know specifically what you’re talking about.
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Tell me what the “it” refers to.
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Yes, it’s safe, it’s very safe, it’s so safe you wouldn’t believe it.
Christian Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: No. It’s not safe, it’s… very dangerous, be careful.

Massive Honorable Mention:

11. ANNIE WILKES
Kathy Bates in the movie “Misery” caused many an audience to cringe when she smacks and breaks both ankles of James Caan’s Paul Sheldon with a sledgehammer! Every bit of air in the audience was sucked into multiple lungs with that sequence.
Annie Wilkes: Anything else I can get for you while I am in town? How about a tiny tape recorder, or how about a homemade pair of writing slippers?
Paul Sheldon: Annie, what’s the matter?
Annie Wilkes: What’s the matter? WHAT’S THE MATTER? I will tell you “what’s the matter!” I go out of my way for you! I do everything to try and make you happy. I feed you, I clean you, I dress you, and what thanks do I get? “Oh, you bought the wrong paper, Anne, I can’t write on this paper, Anne!” Well, I’ll get your stupid paper but you just better start showing me a little appreciation around here, Mr. MAN!

And so:

Who are your favorite celluloid bad guys?

Impolitically Correct

I’ll wager this is a take on Mohammad the Teddy Bear you’ve not yet (nor will you likely ever) read:

Gillian Gibbons deserves every bit of those 15 days she received, and more. In fact, I posit she actually should have been flogged. It would have been better. For her, for Sudan, for people like her, for those ignorant of Islam.

Originally, from CBS News:

AP) Sudanese authorities on Tuesday questioned a British teacher who could face charges of insulting religion — a crime punishable by up to 40 lashes — after she allowed her young students to name a teddy bear Muhammad in a class project.

Gillian Gibbons was arrested Sunday after one of her pupils’ parents complained, accusing her of naming the bear after Islam’s prophet and founder. Muhammad is a common name among Muslim men, but giving the prophet’s name to an animal would be seen as insulting by many Muslims.

Gibbons was being questioned on suspicion of abuse of religion, a charge that is punishable by up to six months in prison, a fine or flogging of up to 40 lashes under Sudan’s Islamic law-based legal system.

Several Sudanese newspapers ran a statement Tuesday reportedly from Unity High School in Khartoum where Gibbons taught, saying the administration “offers an official apology to the students and their families and all Muslims for what came from an individual initiative.” It said Gibbons had been “removed from her work at the school.”

Incidentally, one thing you may not have read: in terms of the stuffed plush white Teddy Bear, Gibbons asked the class of mostly seven-year-olds to name it. The children came up with eight names, to include Abdullah, Hassan and Mohammad. Then she explained what it was to make a vote and asked them to choose a name. Twenty out of the 23 children chose the name Muhammad. But they were not responsible, she was. She is not Sudanese.

I’m sure Gibbons, as an individual, is a good person, but religious stupidity and cultural naivete is no excuse. Has she not heard of Theo van Gogh? The Mohammad Cartoons? Does she not open a newspaper? Listen to news on the television? Radio? Internet? Madrid bombings? London tube bombings? Hello? Anyone? Bueller?

For the hordes of overeducated white Western-origin people who think they can enter a country not their own and not be subject to that country’s laws and/or think they’ll be able to change literally hundreds or thousands of years of tradition, I say: tread carefully. And if you tread foolishly, be prepared and expect to be treated as an outsider.

Westerners, and again overeducated, Left-leaning and/or religious-based white Westerners, seem to have this overarching belief that every culture, every mote of land, every occupant of foreign territory can be “reasoned with” or “convinced” of the innate goodness of the Westerners’ “intent” — good though it may be.

That is absolutely not true.

People, get over it. THIS is the face is Islam in 2007. And you individually or collectively WILL NOT CHANGE IT.

The UK actually came a bit uncorked over the affair. That this even stirred the normally sloth-like, complacent and overtolerant Britons bespeaks volumes. “Londonistan” hasn’t acquired its name for nothing.

But this is the least egregious recent event involving the kindly, understanding, tolerant, peace-loving religion called Islam. What of the rape victim in Saudi Arabia who was sentenced to 200 lashes:

A judge in Saudi Arabia has ordered a victim of gang rape to receive 200 lashes – more than double her original sentence for being alone with a man who was not a relative – after she appealed against the lenient sentences given to the men who attacked her. He also jailed her for six months.

The 21-year-old woman, who was 19 at the time of the attack and is known by the Saudi media as “the girl from Qatif”, was raped 14 times by a gang of seven. Although her attackers were found guilty and sentenced to between 10 months and five years last year, she was simultaneously sentenced to 90 lashes as punishment for riding in a car with a man who was not a relative.

I repeat: Gibbons deserves everything she gets for being sufficiently stupid to think she could change a country, or sufficiently ignorant of its barbaric religion, called Islam.

To any Leftist who may have inadvertently stumbled across my blog: this is Islam in all its glory. This is what you get for embracing multiculturalism. This is what you get for equalizing cultures over this planet, bleating that no one culture is superior to another.

To which I state succinctly in one word: bullshit.

And finally: there is a price to pay for being empirically stupid. Individually, as a nation, as a series of Western cultures.

Islam is a religion that, like the worst, most pervasive of cancers, needs to be irradiated and then incised with the sharpest of knives, then cast into the gutter.

Because it may have been created with only goodness in mind?

No.

Because Islam is what Islam does.

P.S.
This just in: KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) – Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear “Muhammad.”
In response to the demonstration, teacher Gillian Gibbons was moved from the women’s prison near Khartoum to a secret location for her safety, her lawyer said.
The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pickup trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gibbons, who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation. She avoided the more serious punishment of 40 lashes.
Do you not see my point? How absolutely INSANE is ANY practitioner of this barbaric and idiotic religion called Islam?

The French Times,

. . . they are a-changing.
Recently-elected French President Nicolas Sarkozy proffered another reason for the bulk of the EU to despise him, as well as a good portion of his countrymen:
Instead of publicly falling all over himself to apologize to the “disaffected youths” rioting in Paris and elsewhere, Sarkozy chose instead to visit wounded police officers at the Eubonne Hospital and the Hotel Dieu Hospital — those injured in the riots.

President Sarkozy vowed Wednesday a zero tolerance policy against the rioters after two nights of clashes between youths and police in the suburb of Villiers-le-Bel north of Paris.

Referring to angry youths who clashed with French police Sunday and Monday night, the French president described their actions as completely unacceptable, and said those who who fired at them were guilty of attempted assassination. He said authorities would track them down and bring them to justice.

This bit of common sense is sure to infuriate Socialists and Leftists alike who bleed for France’s Muslim detritus.
Victor Davis Hanson, in his Thursday, 11-29 column on Townhall.com, wrote:

Sarkozy almost single-handedly has restored France’s friendship with the United States, begun to reform the economy at home and sought to bring back French entrepreneurship and creativity critical for a free, expansive economy.

The more the unions, the French intellectual elite and entrenched socialists slur Sarkozy as a reactionary and American puppet, the more he has vowed that he won’t relent until a reformed France can recapture its former commercial and geopolitical prominence.

Sarkozy still has many liberal leanings, but the times have most definitely changed in France.
