Bloviating Zeppelin began on June 19th of 2004.

I never thought it would last more than a few months.

I was convinced I’d lose interest.

The first post I sent via e-mail just to my family. They never read it.

I wrote only for myself. I had no idea how to embed links, how to post photographs. I could do nothing but write and click the “PUBLISH POST” button. My thanks to Texas Fred and Robert from American & Proud for bringing my graphics into the 21st century.

Since then, my life has taken any number of turns I could never have forecast, too many to enumerate here.

I’ve written for me; I’ve written to document portions of my life so I won’t forget; I’ve written to bloviate, to excoriate, to yell, to educate. I’ve written when stone cold sober and remarkably inebriated. I’ve written with tears running down my cheeks. And I’ve written as the snow fell and stacked up, over six feet, on my deck.

Throughout all this, my greatest thanks go to you, my readers. Thank you for trusting me, for visiting, for taking the time to comment and interact.

With all the hubris, arrogance, violence, hate, discontent, confusion, lack of understanding and, mostly, lack of time, I know that each and every one of you are challenged in your lives.

Yet you still come by.

I stand amazed. And incredibly thankful.

  1. Thanks most kindly, LOT. We share a common background and a common view on life. Plus, a love for teaching. I’ve been an EVOC instructor for 24 years, and my department’s Rangemaster. I’m proud to say that my evaluations from classes are higher now than 20 years ago.

  2. Wow! Five years. That’s a very long time BZ. Law and Order Teacher said it – you have a “unique voice.” You are a wonderfully pithy writer. Now, I didn’t steal “pithy” from O’Reilly. I used it long before he got on his language kick, and I kinda-sorta resent it that he has turned the word into a personal logo:-)

Anyway, your voice is important out here. Congratulations!

  3. Well, you can see from my Blog Roll, the “Z” first attracted me to your site!!
Since then, the TOTAL BZ has…..always informative, RIGHT, and often very touching.
Congratulations, BZ…Along with these other great bloggers commenting, I’m glad you’re here, proud to know you, and grateful you’re in our corner of the blogosphere!

  4. Congrats!

My 5 year bloggiversary comes up in August, except my blog has been deleted and relaunched more times than a Soviet Politburo photo album.

  5. Z: thanks, and it is a remarkable privilege to know you and to write to you “off the screen.”

Beamish: thanks for your recent visits and comments; I hope you’ll continue to come back. On that note, trust me: I KNOW how DIFFICULT it is to keep a blog current and active. And yet, despite that, I wake up MOST days and can’t wait to post again.

    Is that strange?

  6. Congrats BZ!!
Being able to come to your blog everyday, is sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane is this world of Obamabots!
Thanks, all of your hard work is appreciated!

  7. Birthday?? This calls for a song…

May it live a hundred years,
May you drink a million beers.
    Get plastered you bastard,
    Happy Birthday to your blog!!

  8. BZ,
I think you already know what I am going to say. I love your blog content and you are a talented writer to boot! Congrats!! I am one of those who have fizzled out, but I do thank you that whenever I need to get the word out you allow me to write on your blog. Glad you thought of that, I wouldn’t have thought to ask. ;0) Nevertheless, it is an honor!

    Keep going BZ!!

  9. So here I am, Friday afternoon, just back from work, reading the comments. Thanks you one and all for the very nice words and kudos, thanks to Beamish and Rev Paul for being new readers and please come back!

Oh, by the way, this is me mixing some vodka and Squirt, settling down at my confuser desk upstairs. Smek! Quish! Aaaaaaaaah. . .

  10. I think I’ll mix a vodka and Arizona Ice Tea and check back in, in a hour or so and we’ll fix the Worlds problems.

  11. BZ, I feel the same, a great privilege. Thanks so much.

I’m intrigued by Milepost the Train Guy because I have a relative immersed in model trains, all Marklin brand. But I see he’s into REAL trains!

    Martini: Z’s nomenclature:

    If there’s ONE olive it’s a Martini

    2 olives….olive soup

    3-4 olives…olive stew

That’s how I order them, depending on how hungry I am!! (all very dry, of course, and I don’t gulp them down so I love a restaurant nearby which comes to me, takes my half drunken martini and pours it into another frosty martini glass..THAT is nice! Didn’t know what they were doing the first time they took my glass half full…boy, was I relieved when the second glass came!)

I hope you enjoyed your vodka sharing !

  12. Happy Blogiversary, a bit late.

I’ve been neglecting my rounds, and paying attention to the family, since TMBWitW was on Furcation this last week.

Prayers for many more years of BZness!

  13. I , out of interest, just read this one and I really appreciate you sticking around doing this for so long. I “discovered” your blog relatively recently and find your posts and views to be interesting. Thank you!
