BREAKING: Sheriffs Refuse to Enforce Laws on Gun Control

John CookeFrom the NYTimes.com:

GREELEY, Colo. — When Sheriff John Cooke of Weld County explains in speeches why he is not enforcing the state’s new gun laws, he holds up two 30-round magazines. One, he says, he had before July 1, when the law banning the possession, sale or transfer of the large-capacity magazines went into effect. The other, he “maybe” obtained afterward.

He shuffles the magazines, which look identical, and then challenges the audience to tell the difference.

“How is a deputy or an officer supposed to know which is which?” he asks.

Colorado’s package of gun laws, enacted this year after mass shootings in Aurora, Colo., and Newtown, Conn., has been hailed as a victory by advocates of gun control. But if Sheriff Cooke and a majority of the other county sheriffs in Colorado offer any indication, the new laws — which mandate background checks for private gun transfers and outlaw magazines over 15 rounds — may prove nearly irrelevant across much of the state’s rural regions.

Some sheriffs, like Sheriff Cooke, are refusing to enforce the laws, saying that they are too vague and violate Second Amendment rights. Many more say that enforcement will be “a very low priority,” as several sheriffs put it. All but seven of the 62 elected sheriffs in Colorado signed on in May to a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the statutes.

Another reason, ladies and gentlemen, that I work for a department where my head officer is elected and not appointed.  Where there are politics, of course, but more independence than with a police department answerable more directly to a political mayor or a city manager.

Further, from CSPOA:

The following sheriffs, state sheriff’s associations, and police chiefs have vowed to uphold and defend the Constitution against Obama’s unconstitutional gun control measures.  We applaud these public servants for their courage and conviction.

479 Sheriffs in all.  See the list.

I am an Oath Keeper.

Sheriffs and not Chiefs of Police are more answerable to the people they serve.

Pushback?  Let it commence.

Obama: if you can’t control guns, control ammunition

Buy Ammo NowTrust me, Barack Hussein Obama and his minions are working long and hard on a way to remove firearms from the hands of Americans.  Any way.  By any means.

1. End of an Era: Last U.S. Lead Smelter to Close in December

From NRA-ILA.org:

In December, the final primary lead smelter in the United States will close.  The lead smelter, located in Herculaneum, Missouri, and owned and operated by the Doe Run Company, has existed in the same location since 1892.

The Herculaneum smelter is currently the only smelter in the United States which can produce lead bullion from raw lead ore that is mined nearby in Missouri’s extensive lead deposits, giving the smelter its “primary” designation.  The lead bullion produced in Herculaneum is then sold to lead product producers, including ammunition manufacturers for use in conventional ammunition components such as projectiles, projectile cores, and primers.  Several “secondary” smelters, where lead is recycled from products such as lead acid batteries or spent ammunition components, still operate in the United States.

Doe Run made significant efforts to reduce lead emissions from the smelter, but in 2008 the federal Environmental Protection Agency issued new National Ambient Air Quality Standards for lead that were 10 times tighter than the previous standard.  Given the new lead air quality standard, Doe Run made the decision to close the Herculaneum smelter.

What is the immediate result of the shutdown to Doe Run?  Clearly, that there will be no more domestic manufacturing of ammunition involving lead.  Doing the Logical Extension: meaning that there will be a run on what little ammunition exists on the shelves in gun stores.

Which leaves, as an alternative, the foreign importation of lead.  But what are the strictures regulating the importation of lead?  Is is already outlawed or constricted?  Frankly, I do not know.  But I ask: was this a door that was already closed by the Obama Administration in anticipation of our current state?

A question.

P.S.
A thought in repose: was another reason for the 1.6 billion round DHS contract to ensure that many fewer lead bullets would be available to the public, allowing more governmental control of ammunition inherently?

18-year old Socialist tried to kill his debate teacher

What the American Media Maggots haven’t covered, from Australia’s News.com (zounds, another non-American media source):

A TEENAGER who may have had a grudge against a teacher opened fire with a shotgun at a Colorado high school, wounding two students before killing himself.

Quick-thinking students alerted the targeted teacher, who quickly left the building.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson identified the shooter on Friday night as 18-year-old Karl Halverson Pierson.

The shooter entered Arapahoe High School armed with a shotgun and looking for a teacher he identified by name, Sheriff Robinson said.

“(The teacher) knew he was the target and he left that school in an effort to try to encourage the shooter to also leave the school,” the sheriff said. “That was a very wise tactical decision.”

Yes, the debate team leader.

Thomas Conrad, who had an economics class with the gunman, described him as a very opinionated Socialist.

A “very opinionated Socialist.”  I suppose so.

“He was exuberant I guess,” Conrad told The Denver Post.

“A lot of people picked on him, but it didn’t seem to bother him.”

Carl Schmidt and Brendon Mendelson, both seniors at Arapahoe High, said he had political views that were “outside the mainstream”.

Schmidt said the shooter “was an outspoken kid about what he believed and a good political thinker.”

GatewayPundit writes:

In one Facebook post, Pierson attacks the philosophies of economist Adam Smith who through his invisible hand theory pushed the notion that the free market was self-regulating. In another post, he describes himself as “Keynesian.”

“…I was wondering to all the neoclassicals and neoliberals, why isn’t the market correcting itself?” he wrote. “If the invisible hand is so strong, shouldn’t it be able to overpower regulations?”

Pierson also appears to mock Republicans on another Facebook post, writing “you republicans are so cute” and posting an image that reads: “The Republican Party: Health Care: Let ‘em Die, Climate Change: Let ‘em Die, Gun Violence: Let ‘em Die, Women’s Rights: Let ‘em Die, More War: Let ‘em Die. Is this really the side you want to be on?”

A loving little Socialist — clearly, quite intelligent — who defeated his own views by embracing the very guns Socialists eschew and aimed for a teacher whose beliefs departed from his.

And that’s the Understanding Socialist Way, is it not?

Or was he a young man destined to perish due to, I posit, a corruptive culture rife with video games, gangsta rap, raised by a single mother, unfamiliar with mortality and who believed the RESET button was just a push away, pillowed with a continuous flow of hot and warm running Esteem, as well as — perchance — a few shots of Ritalin, Lithium, Prozac and others?

Just asking.

Bottom line: I am glad the young girl he shot has not perished, and I am very glad that his cerebellum was splayed with great velocity upon the indifferent walls and cold tiled floor of his school.

P.S.
Final questions: what is it with Colorado, a rather liberal state, regarding Columbine, the Aurora movie theater and now Arapahoe High School — killers with Leftist bents?

And why is it that the bank of actual or wish-to-be mass shooters are those with Leftist bents — including Norwegian Anders Brevik?

Matt Prater sets NFL record with 64-yard field goal

Matt Prater Record 64-yard Field GoalBut first, let’s give credit where credit is due: the NFL field goal record has been held for 43 years by Tom Dempsey, a kicker for the New Orleans Saints.  Dempsey is best known for his NFL record 63-yard field goal (kicked in the final two seconds) to give the Saints a 19–17 win over the Detroit Lions on November 8, 1970.

Tom Dempsey KickA great quote from Wikipedia:

“Dempsey was born without toes on his right foot and no fingers on his right hand. He wore a modified shoe with a flattened and enlarged toe surface. This generated controversy about whether such a shoe gave a player an unfair advantage. When reporters would ask him if he thought it was unfair, he said “Unfair eh? How ’bout you try kickin’ a 63 yard field goal to win it with 2 seconds left an’ yer wearin’ a square shoe, oh, yeah and no toes either.”

You read that correctly.  Tom Dempsey’s shoe looked like this:

Tom Dempsey's Kicking ShoeThen, this past Sunday the 8th, Matt Prater, kicker with the Denver Broncos, set the new NFL field goal record with a smash of 64 yards, as illustrated below:

Records were meant to be broken, but Tom Dempsey’s record stood the time test of 43 years — an amazing “feet” if you will.

Unmasked: Area 51’s Biggest, Stealthiest Spy Drone Yet

Northrop-Grumman RQ-180From ForeignPolicy.com:

by Zach Rosenberg

The drone that spied on bin Laden and on Iran’s nukes was just the start. Meet its bigger, higher-flying, stealthier cousin, the Northrop Grumman RQ-180. It’s probably been flying for a few years now, but you weren’t supposed to know that; the existence of this secret project, based out of Area 51, was revealed Friday by Aviation Week.

The RQ-180 is likely flying from the secret Air Force test facility at Groom Lake, Nevada, widely known as Area 51. Its exact specifications, including such crucial details as the number of engines, is unknown, but Aviation Week suggests a wingspan of over 130 feet, based on hangar construction at Northrop’s Palmdale, California facility. The number of aircraft built is also unknown; however, a flight test program, relatively quick entry into service and open budget documents suggest a small fleet are flying routinely.

The aircraft’s performance is said to be similar to Northrop’s white-world entry, the RQ-4 Global Hawk, which can fly for days and cover thousands of miles. Hopefully the RQ-180 performs better; Global Hawk has received mixed marks on its evaluations, and the aircraft it was meant to replace, the venerable Lockheed U-2, will continue to fly for decades to come.

I wrote this past Sunday about the emergence of the Skunk Works-designed Lockheed-Martin SR72.

Conclusion?

Groom Lake, Area 51 and Wonderland are up and not just running, but sprinting.

Good news.

P.S.
The source Aviation Week & Space Technology article is here.  And with a wingspan of a possible 130 feet?  Payloads and weapons could consist of — anything.
