“Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured… but not everyone must prove they are a citizen.” Now add this, “Many of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens.”
-Ben Stein
Trust me, ladies and gentlemen, there are people who are completely unable to understand the above quote whatsoever.
(CNN)– Sen. Harry Reid said nothing of his earlier claims that Mitt Romney had not paid taxes over a ten-year span in a Friday statement joining Democrats in responding to Romney’s release of tax-related documents on Friday.
The Nevada Democrat and Senate majority leader called Romney’s accounting “galling” and said the documentation “reveals that Mitt Romney manipulated one of the only two years of tax returns he’s seen fit to show the American people – and then only to ‘conform’ with his public statements.”
In 2011, the Romneys paid $1,935,708 in taxes on $13,696,951 in mostly investment income.
The Romneys’ effective tax rate for 2011 was 14.1%.
The Romneys donated $4,020,772 to charity in 2011, amounting to nearly 30% of their income.
The Romneys claimed a deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions.
The Romneys’ generous charitable donations in 2011 would have significantly reduced their tax obligation for the year. The Romneys thus limited their deduction of charitable contributions to conform to the Governor’s statement in August, based upon the January estimate of income, that he paid at least 13% in income taxes in each of the last 10 years.
So according to Reid and the Demorats, Leftists, Religion Left and DEM/MSM, Romney is a tax cheat and a manipulator because he didn’t release enough documents or because he gave them what they wanted. Romeny can’t win either way.
Say, this wouldn’t be any kind of a purposeful election-time ploy, would it — ?
What conclusion can you draw other than a major high-ranking US federal government official is disinterested in upholding the First Amendment of the US Constitution?
Specifically, in July of this year, Representative Trent Franks (R – Arizona, 2nd District) speaks with AAG Perez in an attempt to acquire an affirmation of free speech.
Which, as you can see, was avoided like the proverbial plague.
Like attempting to nail Jello to a tree.
However, let me do what I call the “logical extension,” and that is this: “blasphemy” would include Islam. Perhaps Buddhism. Perhaps Hinduism. Perhaps Sikhism. Perhaps Shinto. Perhaps Rastafarianism. Perhaps Scientology.
But not to include either Christianity or Judaism. And trust me when I tell you: Islamwill be on TOP of the Blasphemic Heap.
Isn’t it reassuring to realize your foundational First Amendment is held in such high regard by members of the current Obama Administration?
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly 6 million Americans — significantly more than first estimated— will face a tax penalty under President Barack Obama’s health overhaul for not getting insurance, congressional analysts said Wednesday. Most would be in the middle class.
The new estimate amounts to an inconvenient fact for the administration, a reminder of what critics see as broken promises.
“An inconvenient fact.” Translated: LIE.
The numbers from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office are 50 percent higher than a previous projection by the same office in 2010, shortly after the law passed. The earlier estimate found 4 million people would be affected in 2016, when the penalty is fully in effect.
That’s still only a sliver of the population, given that more than 150 million people currently are covered by employer plans. Nonetheless, in his first campaign for the White House, Obama pledged not to raise taxes on individuals making less than $200,000 a year and couples making less than $250,000.
And the budget office analysis found that nearly 80 percent of those who’ll face the penalty would be making up to or less than five times the federal poverty level. Currently that would work out to $55,850 or less for an individual and $115,250 or less for a family of four.
Average penalty: about $1,200 in 2016.
So, Joe Middle Class GOWP: how’s that Obama vote working out for you?
First, the video from what was thought to be a private fundraiser in May of this year:
The DEM/MSM is taking this video from Mother Jones viral today, and every organ that can write, broadcast, bleat or whine is opining on its content. The DEM/MSM is saying that Mitt Romney kissed half of the electorate goodbye in the video.
Sadly, in my estimation and that of others, what Romney said tends to be the truth. The additional truth is that people don’t care to have their greed placed quite so bluntly on Front Street. Makes them uncomfortable, you see.
The truth is — again — that too many Americans on numerous levels simply want:
The DEM/MSM is going to ensure that Romney’s video is in the forefront 24/7 for at least the next week, minimum.
That said, since any campaign involves a war of words, historically, everything is up for grabs. If Romney’s words bear examination, I submit that Mr Obama’s words are also up for critical examination — in terms of “I actually believe in redistribution.”
This, of course, isn’t a fabrication on my part. I’m not nearly so technologically facile as those who know me realize.
And allow me to state the obvious with regard to “earned success,” which is to what Mr Romney refers. From Arthur Brooks of the American Enterprise Institute:
People take pride in success, in doing things for themselves. This is the foundational point of Conservatism. In three words: Free Cheese Corrupts.
Question: is this Romney’s proverbial “death knell”?
“Socialism always promises happiness, and delivers misery.” – Arthur Brooks
