Forgotten in the news shuffle: Major Nidal Hasan gets the death penalty

Major Nidal HasanFrom the WashingtonPost.com:

Nidal Hasan sentenced to death for Fort Hood shooting rampage

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was sentenced to death Wednesday for killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in a 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Tex., the worst mass murder at a military installation in U.S. history.Dressed in Army fatigues, Hasan, who turns 43 next month, listened impassively as the death sentence was handed down by a panel of 13 senior military officers in a unanimous decision after less than two hours of deliberations. If even a single panel member had objected, Hasan would instead have been sentenced to life in prison. He also was stripped of pay and other financial benefits, which he continued to receive while in custody.

P.S.
One notation, perhaps made in desperation or with an understanding of the truth:John P. Galligan, a civilian lawyer who continues to provide legal assistance, denounced the proceedings as “almost a ludicrous show trial to secure a death penalty, even though they know it’s unlikely that it would be ever actually implemented.”Galligan said the appeals would probably “go on for decades.”“In all honesty, he stands a far more likely chance of dying from medical reasons than dying because he’s been sentenced to death,” he said.

And isn’t that a complete shame on our civilian and military legal system?

US marshaling its forces for an incursion into Syria?

Syria & Middle EastMap of the Middle East, Syria in the center.  Click to expand.

Apparently so.

As I am still in LE, I still have sources around the nation from the contacts I’ve made over the years, both in the civilian LE side and the military side.  Those sources also occasionally have three letters.

Two of those persons are telling me that the US is silently marshaling its forces for a possible incursion into Syria.  Special Forces are being alerted first.

UK media is already broadcasting this belief.

I remain unconvinced that American soldiers placed into Syria solve anything.  And I remain unconvinced that many videos and photographs of this “gas attack” were not staged.

Author Vince Flynn: dead at age 47

One of my very favorite authors, Vince Flynnn self-published his first book, “Term Limits,” in 1997 after 60 rejections, then had it picked up by Pocket Books where it was issued in hardback.  He had written 14 books in all, with a 15th, “The Survivor,” slated to come out in hardback in November.

Mr Flynn wrote mostly about his character Mitch Rapp, an under-cover CIA counter-terrorism agent.  Flynn was very accurate in his writings and had insight into the game plans of covert activities.  His writing was so accurate that DC became concerned.

On February 1, 2011, in his fan newsletter, Flynn announced that he was being treated for advanced Stage III prostate cancer.  He found himself able to write, recently, roughly an hour a day.

He passed away, today, in a St. Paul, Minnesota hospital, surrounded with over thirty family members and friends.

Today is a sad day.
