Thoughts on the passing of Socialist Popey Francis:

I don’t speak or write much about my religious faith, because I’m weird: I consider that to be between myself and God. And in the interest of being honest, I predominantly don’t believe in organized religions. Too much destruction has occurred in their name to believe their generous lines of historical bullshit, to include murders, wars, entire lines of individuals and countries wiped out behind their various causes.

I wrote way back in January of 2010 about the “Politics of God” at my blog, BloviatingZeppelin.net. In that post, I asked: where do you hold God?  Church or heart?

It began this way: I was listening to a radio program back then, and one caller indicated that religion was a matter of heart. The host indicated the opposite: that it was necessary to hold, yes, your religion in your heart, but it was additionally and equally, if not more so, necessary to hold your religion in a church.

That made me think, for a moment, about my place and how I hold my own personal religious feelings.

I very rarely speak or write about my religion or my beliefs. I’m of the opinion that my relationship with God primarily involves myself and my Lord.

I’m also not a “joiner” per se; my life doesn’t quite revolve around the approval of other humans and it never has. I tend to be a loner by nature.

I have many acquaintances; that is true. I don’t have more than a small handful of actual friends. I’d have to say my wife is my best close friend, amongst other roles.

It’s only within the past, say, fifteen years or so that I’ve even taken time to consider my relationship with God. Predominantly, prior, He didn’t even really “factor.” Time and events will do that.

My eyes were opened, inadvertently, when one of my friends at my former cop job, now retired, came back from a European vacation and presented me with an object he’d acquired at the Vatican. It was a cross, blessed by Pope John Paul II in May of 2004.

Since the moment he gave it to me, I’ve worn it every day. Not because I’m such a pious or sanctified or good man; but instead because it forces me, it reminds me, every morning when I look in the mirror, to remember my place in the grand scheme and to actually try to be a good man. The operative word being “try.” Because I frequently fail. And there’s no doubt that I’m a sinner.

No, I don’t belong to a church nor do I attend weekly. But neither did Jesus, per se. Wherever he went, he carried his Father.

So I asked back then: where do you carry your beliefs? Church or heart?

My answer back then was clearly: in my heart.

I don’t believe in man, but I believe in God. My life has taught me that, because I’ve been witness to some of the most vile, rapacious, abhorrent, evil situations due to my 41+ year career in law enforcement.

I don’t need the trappings of a church to hold God close.  I don’t require the approval of many people in a group to try to be a better man.  And I see, day after day, the fallibility of man and the supremacy of God.

I also don’t hold the Bible as the ultimate word of God, because the Bible is rife with the base motivations of man, to include greed, envy, pride, power, and the politics of a few thousand years ago.  The bible was vetted by the Council of Nicea and, as with any gathering of men, there were the political ramifications of what got into the bible and what was excluded.

And that does not even factor in the sometimes very poor historical memory of man himself, tales handed down through the ages by those not of first-hand knowledge.

So, to see these frequently incredibly petty and ugly portraits of man merely emphasizes my view of man and God: I’ll take God any day.  Sunni vs Shiite, Catholic vs Protestant, it’s all immaterial and pointless to me with one exception: it emphasizes my belief in holding God close to my vest.  My God isn’t “better” than your God until and unless you want to kill me or convert me.  Because organized religion has taught me one thing: it is corruptive and confuses the essential core values and meaning of worshiping God.

Man, being fallible, gets caught up in the trappings of man himself and forgets the overarching picture.

Which is why I don’t believe in organized religion and why man still fights man over the make, means and manner in which he holds homage to God.

If you enjoy going to church and the concomitant internal struggles you see perhaps in your own religion or perhaps in your very own house of worship, then blessings upon you.

In my opinion, however, life is too short for me to worry about the pettiness of man and the politics of God in some building.

And that’s where we get into the passing of Pope Francis. The one I called “Socialist Popey” because, well, he was.

This is the man, like so many others, who reaches into the large pocket of potential goodness and pulls out hypocrisy, crap, DEI, Woke headlines, and disappointment.

And he continued to emphasize to me that frequently the most self-proclaimed, self-righteous of men are just that. And huge hypocrites.

Gosh, BZ, “bitter, table for one, please?” Only I have reasoning to back it up. While working the Child Abuse Bureau for my department in the 1990s, the local diocese buried and then completely removed a priest to parts unknown, when it discovered I had acquired a case regarding that individual.

I reported back to my supervisor at the time, who told me to simply clear the case as PENDING and move on. I did what I was told. That’s on me.

But it continued to reaffirm my beliefs that many of the persons who crow the loudest about being the most religious, the most virtuous, are frequently quite the reverse. It’s not a good look.

And into that category I place Socialist Popey, who found it within himself to excoriate my president about not embracing each and every individual getting their ankles moist by crossing the Rio Grande.

This, simultaneously, while the Vatican itself vowed to crack down on illegal entry onto its grounds, (SHOW ARTICLE) – the same grounds surrounded by high walls, with its own army and police force. Violators will face fines of up to €25,000 and jail sentences ranging from 1 to 4 years under the new schedule.

The “reasoning” involved higher threat levels due to terror and Islamic groups. You know, just like the US. The Vatican absolves itself of many things – one of them being, of course, the ability to keep its own perimeter safe and secure.

In addition, what I didn’t see Socialist-Hypocrite Popey do is open, say, St Peter’s Square to the vast throngs of homeless, the needy, the sick, nor did I see him open his apartment and the apartments of others to those same persons.

So I was done, long ago, with the hypocrisy. Including the hypocrisy, for a thousand years, involving the hundreds of thousands of young boys abused by the Catholic Church all around the planet.

The ability to absolutely stop the human scum and vermin committing those acts on young children has historically rested in the hands of the Vatican, under countless popes. As I mentioned prior, priests have been removed and buried deep in the folds and layers of the Catholic Church for centuries. Specifically so that they could avoid their necessary consequences.

I know no other way to express this: those are acts of complete and utter evil, concealed by persons who, individually and collectively, are themselves utterly evil. That’s you, Catholic Church.

But I am nothing if not a contentious contrarian. I will also fight for the ability of people to seek their religion of choice in the United States of America. Just because I believe in God and not Man, and because I don’t believe in organized religion, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t fight for those rights.

With one exception, of course: Islam. Islam is a death cult.

I would easily fight against and advocate against Islam. And I do. But that’s a lengthy story for another time.

So until I’m witness to a massive sea change in the Vatican, I’m stuck with these beliefs about Socialist Popey and his church. The onus isn’t on me to do better in that regard. The onus is on the Catholic Church to do better.

We’ll see about that. My faith is minimal.

I repeat: I don’t believe in man.  I believe in God.

We’ll see what the College of Cardinals does next. The ball is in their proverbial court.

Go ahead. Prove me wrong.
