Finally: some Americans fight park closures

Joshua Tree Natl Park Shut Down 10-13From the WashingtonTimes.com:

We’re not gonna take it! Americans use 1st Amendment to storm shutdown barriers

By Stephen Dinan

Taking their lead from the veterans who first pushed through the barricades to visit the World War II Memorial, Americans nationwide are defying the federal government shutdown, tossing aside traffic cones and toppling wooden fences to get to national parks and other federal lands that the administration has deemed out of bounds.

As the shutdown hits the middle of its second week, civil disobedience has become a sensation. Some proudly post online photos of themselves overcoming the government’s obstacles, and others use more subtle ways to make their point.

Oddly enough, the same thing I said I would have done this past Monday:

Now here is what BZ would, of course, do: drive over some cones, pull out his camera, a tripod, a video cam, a table, a chair, sit down and have lunch at my leisure.  When finished, I would also leisurely take any number of photographs to my satisfaction.  Then, just prior to leaving, I would merely “displace” said blocking cones to an unknown point down an adjacent steep hill.  Mission accomplished.

To continue from the article:

The owner of the Pisgah Inn along the Blue Ridge Parkway, who last week announced that he was defying the park service’s shutdown order, said it was a matter of principle.

“If not now, when? If not me, who?” Bruce O’Connell told The Washington Times.

It’s nice to see that a smattering of Americans still have balls.

National Park Service blocks drivers from pulling over to view Mt Rushmore

Mt Rushmore ShutdownIs this — again — not the most insane thing you’ve heard or read?  Just when you think that the Obama Administration cannot get more nakedly craven, cowardly and puerile — they do.  They have topped themselves today with their newest spoiled-child tantrum.  More sphincter-dribble from the US Spite House.

From the SiouxFallsBusinessJournal.com:

Barring visitors from view an unexpected effect of shutdown

Blocking access to trails and programs at South Dakota’s most popular attraction was one thing, but state officials didn’t expect Congress’ budget stalemate to shut down a view of Mount Rushmore.

The National Park Service placed cones along highway viewing areas outside Mount Rushmore this week, barring visitors from pulling over and taking pictures of the famed monument.

The cones first went up Oct. 1, said Dusty Johnson, Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s chief of staff. The state asked that they be taken down, and federal officials did so with some of them. The state was told the cones were a safety precaution to help channel cars into viewing areas rather than to bar their entrance.“I think reasonable people can disagree about that,” Johnson said.

They certainly can.  I believe, as a Political Beastie and beholden to the federal government nipple, Governor Johnson is being quite tactically correct and extremely kind.  There was one purpose, and one purpose only to the blocking off of vehicle pullouts: to punish Americans, to inconvenience them, to anger them, to frustrate them.

I’ll wager that more of YOUR tax dollars were spent to block and shut down various parks and attractions than required to simply operate them on a normal basis.

While I’m at it, I simply canNOT pass up a graphic I discovered here.

And: why is it ONLY the pro-America venues that are finding themselves closed?

Congress’s Exemption from Obamacare

Criminals & PoliticiansFrom NationalReview.com:

Make Congress get insurance the same way the little people do? Hill denizens howl in fury.  by John Fund

Prostitution. Bribery. Blackmail. Thuggery. Hypocrisy.

Those were just some of the incendiary words thrown around the U.S. Senate last week, and that doesn’t count what people said in private.

Senator David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican, has demanded a floor vote on his bill to end an exemption that members of Congress and their staffs are slated to get that will make them the only participants in the new Obamacare exchanges to receive generous subsidies from their employer to pay for their health insurance. Angry Senate Democrats have drafted legislation that dredges up a 2007 prostitution scandal involving Vitter. The confrontation is a perfect illustration of just how wide the gulf in attitudes is between the Beltway and the rest of the country — and how viciously Capitol Hill denizens will fight for their privileges.

In 2009, Senator Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) decided that the principle deserved to be embedded in Obamacare, and he was able to insert a provision requiring all members of Congress and their staffs to get insurance through the Obamacare health exchanges. “The more that Congress experiences the laws it passes, the better,” said Grassley. Although his amendment was watered down before final passage to exclude committee staff, it still applies to members of Congress and their personal staffs. Most employment lawyers interpreted that to mean that the taxpayer-funded federal health-insurance subsidies dispensed to those on Congress’s payroll — which now range from $5,000 to $11,000 a year — would have to end.

What Vitter’s opponents fear most is that this fight will penetrate the public’s consciousness. A new poll taken for Independent Women’s Voice, a conservative group, found that 92 percent of voters think Congress shouldn’t be exempted from the insurance provisions of Obamacare. Most voters blame both parties equally for the exemption, which means Republicans will also be hurt politically if it stands. “This is an issue with almost unprecedented intensity,” IWV president Heather Higgins told me. “Republicans have the choice of leading the Vitter parade for repeal or getting run over by it. To duck it will be viewed by their constituents as political malpractice.”

Please note the phrase “Democrats and Republicans alike,” above.  Both sides of the aisle believe it’s fundamentally “unfair” for them to have to abide by the fruits of their own bills.  Proving once again that, in essence, there isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between the two sides, with a smattering of exceptions.

You have to realize: those in DC are simply better than us.  Us: the American Taxpayers.  The proles, the serfs, the groundlings.

Washington DC: checking me out

DC - Viewed Federal Government IncompetentThis is interesting: the federal government in DC felt compelled to check out ol’ BZ by clicking on my category of “federal government incompetent,” as indicated by the screen grab above.

Perhaps they’re looking for ways to further screw up our country?

Mr Obama can only hope.

Honestly, I find this not only amusing but ironic.

Let’s add this post to that category, shall we?

Syria: Obama’s showdown

Syria & Surrounding StatesVarious leaks on Wednesday indicate that America will begin bombing Syria some time on Thursday — to include drones, cruise missiles and long range bombers.

This information was revealed in many major media newspapers on Wednesday, to include such details as the length of time — three days — and some of the targets themselves.  Means and manner.

How stunningly incompetent is this — ?  To secrete information as to pre-announce a strike on a sovereign nation in a leaked-media fashion?

Even White House flack Jay Carney has said that DC is not interested in “regime change.”  Meaning: DC is not interested in unseating Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as he rests in Damascus.

I ask: if you, Mr Obama, are uninterested in going to the core of the problem, then why make an incursion or even an event at all?  What will it truly accomplish?  If there is no regime change, then there is no point.

Only one thing: a redemption of sorts for a president who opened his mouth too early and drew a line — a red line — in the sand.  If Mr Obama hadn’t proclaimed his sphincter dribble he wouldn’t feel compelled now to confirm his Narcissistic Personality Disorder.  Mr Obama’s so-called “policy” is arbitrary and incoherent.

And where are the anti-war protesters storming DC because of Obama’s sabre-rattling?

Oh, right: to question Mr Obama in any way would be racist.

But I’m questioning:

Where is the Congressional sign-off or authorization on this?  The president is acting unilaterally, just as he accused — as a senator — George Bush of doing.

In DC today, Obama said he has not yet “made a decision” on Syria.  If so, one of two things are occurring here:

1. He is lying, or
2. He is incredibly, staggeringly incompetent

In any case, just who — what side — is America supporting in Syria, and why?

No one in DC can answer that one simple question.  Except: does Obama realize he appears to be supporting al Qaeda?

Joe Biden already said, in 2007, that an attack on any country absent Congressional approval is an IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE:

Really?  And how do you feel now, sir, absent Congressional approval involving Syria?

Not so much, sir?  A hypocrite, sir?  Lying between your teeth, sir?  Politics trumping all, sir?

You’re simply a badly-hair-plugged buffoon, and way overpaid.  As are the rest of your DC cohorts.  On roughly both sides of the aisle.

Because you have no consequences.  You have no responsibilities, no answering, no culpability, no liability, no exposure, no imperative.  No ACCOUNTABILITY.

The droids in DC are answerable and accountable to no one.

Their only concern is to acquire a check and to cash said check.

People can die.  People have died.  But no one cares and no one sees.

I have never been as disappointed in my country as now, under the reign (not “leadership”) of Barack Hussein Obama, because he is NO leader.  He is: Barry Soetoro.

A major week this will be.
