The Weak Dollar: It’s Starting

And there isn’t a thing you can do about it.

The survival or crash of this nation now rests in the hands of Mr Obama.

And it’s starting here:

Gasoline.

I’m sure you’ve noticed gas prices rising steadily at your local station. In Fornicalia, for example, the prices I’ve been paying recently have run from $2.93 to $2.99 for 87-octane unleaded at ARCO, one of least expensive series of stations in this state. The trade gap grows as oil prices jump.

Imports advanced 2.6 percent to $174.6 billion. Today’s report estimated petroleum prices rose to $72.54 a barrel in November, the highest level since October 2008. The increase in costs more than offset a drop in volumes as the U.S. imported 245 million barrels in November, the fewest since February 1999.

Prices have been jumping on the back of a strong oil market where the cost for a barrel has spiked 20 percent in the past month on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Skyrocketing gasoline prices couldn’t come at a worse time for motorists, who will see heating bills jump after the worst cold spell in years.

Oil prices are now about three times what they were a year ago.

“There is a long history of tripled oil prices causing consternation among consumers,” Peter Beutel of Cameron Hanover said in a report Monday. “We are not there, yet, but gasoline prices at more than $3.00 is certainly an unwelcome sign of consumer distress.”

Prices almost always tick up toward the spring as more people begin to drive and refiners switch over to cleaner burning fuels as required by law.

And of course, how it affects your wallet:

Motorists are paying about $50 more a month for gasoline than a year ago, and the total fuel bill for Americans now tops $1 billion per day compared with $650 million per day last year. Add in heating oil and diesel fuel, and the total fuel bill is probably $400 million to $550 million more each day than a year ago, said Tom Kloza of the Oil Price Information Services.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is just beginning; fuel prices are one of the first nodes to be impacted.

I am telling you now: Mr Obama possesses a remarkable amount of power that he could voluntarily wield for the benefit of the American taxpayers, and he will not. He will refuse. He will continue to print money and to insist on the creation of massive social programs, more spending, more bailouts, more so-called “stimulus” which isn’t.

If you have money invested, you could pull it out and place in gold. You could put it all in your mattress. You could create your own series of sealed caches. And, ladies and gentlemen, you will still not be spared. Recession, depression.

Mr Obama will not stop spending — therefore, he is locked into a plan of fatal errors.

Chicago PD: NO Entrance Exam To Be A Cop?

Some years ago I wouldn’t have thought this possible — now, I cannot say as I am completely floored:

The Chicago Police Department is seriously considering scrapping the police entrance exam, sources tell Fran Spielman.

Dropping the exam would bolster minority hiring and avert legal battles, according to one source, while others confirm that the exam could be scrapped to open the process to as many people as possible.

Thinking of this possibility, even in passing, makes me glad that I’ll be retiring in the not too terribly distant future. I wouldn’t want to be a cop if and when this trend goes national — and take the heat from the ridiculous abrogations of law, bad decisions and societal messes that are assured to occur.

The placement of a qualified police officer on the street depends on a series of checks and balances that occur along the way. Any potential officer — at least in Fornicalia — has to pass a written entrance exam at the very start, then pass a physical-challenge course, a doctor’s hands-on physical examination, a psychological exam, and a polygraph or CVSA. From there, a background check is conducted. Then comes the academy.
Following graduation, the recruit is placed onto the streets with a training officer. Upon successful completion, the officer is on full probation for one year.
Taking away an entrance exam? And, moreover, taking away an entrance exam for the purposes of melanin count?
This is not only a ridiculous proposition but dangerous as well. How assuaged will you feel when an officer, lawfully equipped to utilize deadly force, comes to your home to assist — and is a product of no immediate or primary vetting?
Ladies and gentlemen, that is a consideration made solely in terms of “political correctness” and a clear recipe for disaster.

One History Lesson: The Fat Cats?

Of course, it has to be the GOP, does it not? Ask any Leftist or Demorat; they’ll set you straight.

Except:
The Demorats would be the Party of Fat Cats.
Jonah Goldberg in the LA Times wrote:
In 2008, Obama raked in more donations from the health sector than John McCain and the rest of the Republican field combined. Drug makers gave Obama $3.58 for every dollar they gave McCain. Pfizer gave to Obama at a 4-1 rate, as did the hospital and nursing home industries. In 2008, the insurance industry gave more money to House Democrats than House Republicans. HMOs give to Democrats over Republicans by a margin of 60 to 40.
And that’s just one area. How about the “Global Warming” issue:
This pattern is hardly unique to healthcare. The U.S. Climate Action Partnership, led by GE, includes many other Fortune 500 companies, including Goldman Sachs — the company that has profited mightily from Obama’s brand of hope and change. CAP is an aggressive supporter of the Democrats’ climate change scheme. Why? Because GE and company stand to make billions from carbon pricing, thanks largely to investments in technologies that cannot survive in a free market without massive subsidies from Uncle Sam. GE chief Jeffrey Immelt cheerleads big government as “an industry policy champion, a financier and a key partner.”
Also consider the Demorats, the sympathetic, keening party of the poor and downtrodden:

As Washington reels from the news of 10.2 percent unemployment, the Center for Responsive Politics is out with a new report describing the wealth of members of Congress.

Among the highlights: Two-hundred-and-thirty-seven members of Congress are millionaires. That’s 44 percent of the body – compared to about 1 percent of Americans overall.

Why do the Demorats continue to enact bills as though the money runs through their hands like water and the results of their bills can’t affect them? It’s because the money runs through their hands like water and the results of their bills can’t affect them.
Or can it?
2007 / 2008 Political Contributions:
From business, there existed $1,964,870,224.
From labor, ideologogy & others: $673,473,646.
(source: Center For Responsive Politics)
Corporate Political Spending (1990 to present):
Demorats: 49.4%
GOP: 50.6%
Damned near equal.
What was Union political spending from 1990 to present?
Why, that would be:
Demorat: 92%
GOP: 8%
The CWA (Communication Workers of America) and UAW (United Auto Workers) called on Congress to pass legislation that would mitigate last week’s SCOTUS ruling. Russ Feingold has said: that’s his next goal!
Now, Rep. Mark Kirk (R, IL) is taking a shot at Obama’s former Illinois Senate seat. You know: the seat Rod Blagojevich tried to sell and then proffered to Roland Burriss. At quite too costly a price.
Dick Durbin (D, Ill) is worried.
David Axelrod, Obama’s Senior Advisor, swiped his combover on camera in order to pledge opposition.
Competitors to Kirk?
Yes. Alexi Giannoulias (D, Ill), 33 years of age, has massive amounts of Greek money behind him. NEVER underestimate the Greek cash reserve!
Cheryl Jackson of the Chicago Urban League is also in the running.
However, the Chicago Inspector General, David Hoffman, is looking good.
One in four Chicago Demorats are still UNdecided.
There is ONE week to go.

Hanging By a Thread?

Ooooopsie:

Health care reform is “hanging on by a thread,” and one or two votes could determine the outcome of the heavily-debated bill, Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd told CNBC Monday.
Give them a few more days. The Demorats will extort, threaten or purchase the necessary votes from clueless sycophants.
