Let’s get real for a moment here, shall we? Let’s be honest with one another.

With the Chrysler-Fiat merger, that one act has guaranteed that I’ll never purchase another Chrysler in my lifetime. I’ve only had one over my vehicle-buying career. But I’ve driven many of them in my career as a law enforcement officer. And with one exception, the 2008 Dodge Charger Police Package, I’ve not enjoyed driving any Chrysler/Dodge product.

As I wrote earlier, the Chrysler/Fiat merger is not unlike the blind leading the blind.

A leading bankruptcy attorney representing hedge funds and money managers told ABC News Saturday that Steve Rattner, the leader of the Obama administration’s Auto Industry Task Force, threatened one of the firms, an investment bank, that if it continued to oppose the administration’s Chrysler bankruptcy plan, the White House would use the White House press corps to destroy its reputation.

The White House, of course, makes the denial. And except for the “blog” on ABC News, this information is not making screaming headlines above the fold on today’s newspapers across the country. I wonder why that might be?

Instead, the national media has decided that an evening stroll, taken by Mr and Mrs Obama around the White House, is more newsworthy. Yes, this is an actual article from AP:

After a date night out on Saturday evening, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama decided to take a stroll when their motorcade arrived back at the White House.

So they began walking on the driveway of the White House South Lawn while holding hands. First they passed the West Wing, then their children’s swing set. They kept walking, swinging their hands together.

Have you ever — I repeat, ever — been witness to a more “in the tank”, completely disinterested, lazy, corrupt and purposely-avoidant news media than exists now with regard to its promotion and coverage of an American politician?

But oh, no, they’re not biased.

And here’s the overarching point: the implication is that the press corps will do precisely what Mr Obama or his administration wants, whenever it wants.

Some people see a conspiracy around every corner.

On the other hand, a couple of billion people here, a couple of billion people there, and you could have a very nice, quiet, eminently controllable world, eh?

And just because you’re paranoid, naturally, it doesn’t mean that someone isn’t out to get you. Like Deep Ecology.

The Deep Ecology Movement is looking upon this swine flu thingy as a wondrous opportunity.

To kill you. They’re crossing their collective fingers even as I write this.

But, ahem, not them, of course. Oh no! It was, after all, their idea. . .

All of this, naturally, to “get back in tune with Nature” (big “N”) and to make man (little “m”) more humble, more agrarian, on cultural and philosophical par with nematodes and dirt and flatworms.

Here is Deep Ecology’s Platform. Please note point number five:

Well, according to point five, our Third and Fourth World darker brethren and sistren will simply have to stop reproducing. It would seem that Caucasoid and Western Cultures are already “cooperating” in this manner (kids are just too untidy and bothersome after all!), but those feckless and pesky brown and black people? Hello? Are you getting the message from Deep Ecology? Heavy sigh . . . apparently not.

I’d love to see this battle fought in public: a select group of primarily blanched elitist ecologists telling only melanin-amped people that they’ll simply have to, well, stop fornicating.

I’m sure that’ll really play well.
