What Happens When One Parent Speaks Out at a School Board Meeting About a Controversial Book Assigned to His Daughter

From TheBlaze.com:

by Oliver Darcy

A New Hampshire parent was arrested at a Monday night school board meeting after he voiced outrage his ninth grade daughter was assigned a book that contains a page detailing a graphic sexual encounter.

Frankly, let me state this up front:

In my opinion  this is a completely unnecessary display of force by a small-town police department.  I am a cop.  I state that up front.  I have worked in LE for 40+ years.  But I expect my fellow officers to follow the foundational documents to include the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  I do not expect them to abrogate — primarily — our First and Second Amendment rights.

The Gilford Police Department embarrasses me.  In my opinion they will be sued and deservedly so.

Watch the video:

Gilford school officials claim the book, “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult, contains important themes about a school shooting. But some parents believe a scene described in the book is inappropriate for their children.

According to WCVB-TV, the book contains a graphic description of rough sex between two teenagers, which parents were unaware of until the book had already been distributed to their kids.

That passage includes, in part:

“‘Relax,’ Matt murmured, and then he sank his teeth into her shoulder. He pinned her hands over her head and ground his hips against hers. She could feel his erection, hot against her stomach.

” … She couldn’t remember ever feeling so heavy, as if her heart were beating between her legs. She clawed at Matt’s back to bring him closer.

“‘Yeah,’ he groaned, and her pushed her thighs apart. And then suddenly Matt was inside her, pumping so hard that she scooted backward on the carpet, burning the backs of her legs. … (H)e clamped his hand over her mouth and drove harder and harder until Josie felt him come.

“Semen, sticky and hot, pooled on the carpet beneath her.”

Why yes, that would be precisely what I would want my daughter to read as an ASSIGNED BOOK in her high school.  Wouldn’t you?

He (William Baer) went to the school board meeting to express his objections.

“It’s absurd,” he told the school board.

“Sir, would you please be respectful of the other people?” a school board member responded.

“Like you’re respectful of my daughter, right? And my children?” he countered.

America, get ready for the rest of this story:

A police officer then arrived at the scene, instructing Baer to leave with him.

Moments later, Baer was escorted outside and placed in handcuffs. According to WMUR-TV, he was charged with disorderly conduct because he did not immediately leave when asked by an officer.

Fine.  First question: why were police officers there in the first place?  Do you, in your school meetings, customarily have LE officers assigned there?

A second video:

So speaking your mind constitutes a threat.  And going over your allotted time constitutes a threat.

“Many people in education and government truly believe our children are theirs,” William Baer told EAG News. “That parents are only the custodians who feed them and put a roof over their head. These school incidents are a byproduct of this ‘we know best’ philosophy. They believe they have the authority to do this. If people were more complacent, which is hard to imagine, it’d be even worse.”

But even further, into the insidious abrogation that occurred:

Understandably, Baer doesn’t want his daughter exposed to this kind of material, and says the school “has no business introducing such themes” to his daughter.

He’s also disturbed by school officials’ failure to notify parents that this novel was assigned, and there was no opportunity to “opt out.”

Baer, who is an attorney, believes that if someone stood outside the school and handed out copies of the novel’s sexually charged passage to students, he would likely be arrested and prosecuted.

He questions why it’s acceptable for “the state, through its schools and agents,” to mandate reading and discussing this same material.

In a written response to an EAGnews inquiry, Gilford school leaders admit they didn’t warn parents of the book’s controversial nature like they have in previous years, and promised to send a letter to the home “of all students who are currently assigned the book.”

I have re-written this final paragraph, because I believe the videos above speak for themselves.  This is sad, embarrassing, and unfortunately indicative of the path that many departments have chosen to take regarding personal freedoms.

I suspect that department will be sued in short order.

The real thoughts from Demorats, Pt I:

North Carolina Democrat LetterThank you sir, whoever you are, for putting in print your true thoughts.  You’re precisely why Conservatives are Conservatives, and you confirm our beliefs that Leftists couldn’t care less about our foundational documents.  And that damned Constitution, written a hundred years ago.

Immigration’s Plan B:

Mi Familia VotaMeanwhile, back at the ranch, whilst you were watching Syria and weren’t paying attention domestically — and without statutory authority:

A Plan B.

Immigration-reform activists aren’t supposed to talk publicly about a Plan B. They can’t, or won’t, answer questions from the media about what they will do if no bill passes this year to legalize the undocumented population. But as August wears on and there is no clear sense of what the House will do on immigration, some are starting to speak out.

“There are groups that are for immigration reform no matter what. Then there are groups like us, grassroots…. We have the other track,” said Adelina Nicholls, the executive director of the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights. “The other track is Barack Obama.”

The idea behind the “other track” is to freeze the current undocumented population in place through an administrative order, give them work permits, and hope for a better deal under the next president, with the hope that he or she is a Democrat. It’s a significant gamble, but some advocates—particularly those outside of the Washington legislative bartering system—argue that it’s better than what they stand to see under the legislation being discussed now.

Many advocates have been discussing Plan B quietly for months, but they have kept a disciplined public message solely focused on supporting a comprehensive immigration bill in Congress. Even if they are uncomfortable with some of the bill’s provisions (like, say, excluding anyone who has been convicted of petty theft from legalization), advocates don’t want to appear fractured before a group of politicians who are wary about voting for anything that gives unauthorized immigrants legal status. As soon as reluctant lawmakers smell dissension in the ranks, they flee.

All Obama needs is “proof” that Congress can’t get the job done — then Obama reacts with an EO on his own, unilaterally.

Activists fear the border will be “militarized.”  And that immigrants will be driven “underground.”  Our sovereignty at literal risk, supported by foreign consulates.  Dual citizenship, tri-citizenship.  This is how you kill a nation.

Obama plans, by Executive Fiat, to legalize and normalize millions of Mexicans above and beyond the Dream Act.  The Leftists will do anything to accomplish their objectives, and they are unceasing.  If not by legislation, then by any manner in any fashion.  They are beyond resolute.  They are advocating “turning up the heat.”  The proverbial “squeaky wheel,” ladies and gentlemen.

Do you find Republicans who are likewise resolute or unceasing or unaccepting of defeat?  Who attack like steamrollers and piledrivers?

And who create websites like Mi Familia Vota, the sole goal of which is to bring as many illegal Mexicans into the United States as possible?  Not the French, not Ethiopians, not Russians, not Canadians.  Mexicans.  Who speak Spanish.  And who do not hail from Spain — though it was Spain that conquered the Indians of Mexico, which is why they speak Spanish today and not Tagalog.

Obama’s Executive Fiat and a SCOTUS that supports it.

I ask: how can you say you “love your country” and truly hate your Constitution?

Your Constitution and Founding Fathers provided recourse.  A convention for proposing amendments.

Article Five of the United States Constitution

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.[2]

Perhaps a reference to Mark Levin’s The Liberty Amendments.

I submit that Mr Levin possesses a logical and sane alternative to the illogical and insane path our nation is currently taking.

Tell me: how many of you recognize our country from, say, thirty years ago?

Not in terms of melanin count, but in terms of logic, common sense, law, reality, proportion and rationality.

Don’t think Leftists don’t have a strategy:

Most activists for immigration reform have been so wrapped up in getting legislation through the Senate that they haven’t had time to look up and see what’s down the road. They are doing so now. “We’re saying, ‘What if? What are the next steps? If we come to a crossroads, what are the next strategies, the next talking points?’ ” said Lizette Escobedo, communications and development director for the Latino group Mi Familia Vota. “Our groups on the ground are seeing this as a new challenge. And when you get a new challenge, you just need to turn up the heat.”

Really.

What have you heard is the GOP‘s so-called “Plan B”?

Correct: nothing.

First Amendment Word Police: “Seattle officials call for ban on ‘potentially offensive’ language”

Tolerant LeftistsFrom FoxNews.com:

Government workers in the city of Seattle have been advised that the terms “citizen” and “brown bag” are potentially offensive and may no longer be used in official documents and discussions.

KOMO-TV reports that the city’s Office of Civil Rights instructed city workers in a recent internal memo to avoid using the words because some may find them offensive.

Right.  “Citizen.”  “Brown bag.”  Offensive.  Let’s see; to whom?  Oh yes, illegals.  Mexicans specifically.

“Luckily, we’ve got options,” Elliott Bronstein of the Office for Civil Rights wrote in the memo obtained by the station. “For ‘citizens,’ how about ‘residents?'”

Luckily, there isn’t one set of actual testicles in the entire OCR.

Seattle, however, isn’t the only city with an eye on potentially disruptive words.

The New York Post reported in March 2012 that the city’s Department of Education avoids references to words like “dinosaurs,” “birthdays,” “Halloween” and dozens of other topics on city-issued tests because they could evoke “unpleasant emotions” among the students.

Dinosaurs, for example, conjures the topic of evolution, which could rile fundamentalists and birthdays are not celebrated by Jehovah’s Witnesses. Halloween, meanwhile, suggests an affiliation to Paganism.

Officials said such exclusions are normal procedure, insisting it’s not censorship.

Of course.  That Bill of Rights and First Amendment, such a terribly oppressive and limiting document.

Heavy sigh.
