U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl at one point during his captivity converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a “mujahid,” or warrior for Islam, according to secret documents prepared on the basis of a purported eyewitness account and obtained by Fox News.

The reports indicate that Bergdahl’s relations with his Haqqani captors morphed over time, from periods of hostility, where he was treated very much like a hostage, to periods where, as one source told Fox News, “he became much more of an accepted fellow” than is popularly understood. He even reportedly was allowed to carry a gun at times.

Obama pushing for the Taliban Five? Why them, and why now?

The Taliban releasing Sgt Bowe Bergdahl; propaganda video.

Mr Obama has never been known for making the finest negotiations during his tenure as president.  The 5-for-one swap for Sgt Bowe Bergdahl is simply another example.

From, of all places, Time.com:

White House Overrode Internal Objections To Taliban Prisoner Release

by Massimo Calabresi

Pentagon, Intelligence officials used Top Secret intelligence to prevent previous release of Taliban Five, officials tell TIME

To pull off the prisoner swap of five Taliban leaders for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the White House overrode an existing interagency process charged with debating the transfer of Guantanamo Bay prisoners and dismissed long-standing Pentagon and intelligence community concerns based on Top Secret intelligence about the dangers of releasing the five men, sources familiar with the debate tell TIME.

Meaning: various military officials told Mr Obama in no uncertain terms along the way that to release these five Taliban leaders would be a horrible decision to its very core.

But officials in the Pentagon and intelligence communities had successfully fought off release of the five men in the past, officials tell TIME. “This was out of the norm,” says one official familiar with the debate over the dangers of releasing the five Taliban officials. “There was never the conversation.” Obama’s move was an ultimate victory for those at the White House and the State Department who had previously argued the military should “suck it up and salute,” says the official familiar with the debate.

Obama has broad authority under Article II of the U.S. Constitution to order the prisoner exchange as commander in chief of America’s armed forces. The lengths to which he went to bring it about show how determined he was to resolve the lingering issue of America’s only prisoner of war in Afghanistan.

The Tolly-Bahn, as Mr Obama would say.

But here is the paragraph which raises my hackles — as printed by Time:

The Obama administration first considered whether the five men were safe to release at the very start of his term as president. In January 2009, Obama ordered a Justice Department-led review of all 240 Guantanamo Bay detainees. The five Taliban leaders were found to be high risks to return to the fight against Americans, confirming Bush administration assessments of the threat they posed, according to officials familiar with the group’s findings. “These five are clearly bad dudes,” says a second source familiar with the debate over their release, adding that the detainees are likely to return to the fight.

So, with that in mind, the Obama Administration decides to release precisely those Taliban Five, in order to capitalize upon the wondrous political benefits Mr Obama believes will occur as the result of the trade.  Mr Obama thought it would be a “feel good” triumph for him personally.  Mr Obama, again and again = tone deaf.

Was, then, anyone notified of the trade?

At least one member of the Senate did have advance notice. “We were notified of the plan to secure Sergeant Bergdahl’s release on Friday,” said Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. A spokesman for Republican House Speaker John Boehner, however, told TIME that there was no advance notice given to the leader of the House. Senate Intelligence Chair Dianne Feinstein was not informed in advance, either, and on Tuesday Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken called her to apologize for the oversight, she told reporters.

THE DiFi was also not notified and her nose was thusly out-of-joint.

I ask again: why them, why Bergdahl and why now?

The newest information?  The Taliban — of course — are using the events to promote a propaganda video.  This fact should truly shock no one with a whit of common sense.  But therein lies the political Spite House rub.

By releasing a 17-minute video showing the handover of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl to U.S. forces in Afghanistan, the Taliban sought to build Wednesday on what the militants have described as a major propaganda victory.

Bergdahl was freed Saturday as part of a prisoner swap in which U.S. officials released five Taliban detainees from the prison at Guantanamo Bay into the custody of the Persian Gulf nation of Qatar, which mediated the negotiations.

Taliban officials have touted the deal as a sign of their strength in eastern Afghanistan, where the exchange is believed to have taken place.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.  .  .

A serial liar: Susan Rice says Sgt Bergdahl served with “honor and distinction”

And this from the woman who lied every time she appeared on any Sunday show directly following the 9-11-12 Benghazi Consulate assault wherein four Americans died.

The video regarding Sgt Bowe Bergdahl:

You can ascribe some of Obama’s errors to “mistakes.”  But the bulk of them are purposeful, as is the above video by, once again, the Liaress Susan Rice.  How can she so willingly lay her neck down for such sacrifice?  Philosophy?  Sheer ignorance?

What is up regarding Bob Bergdahl, father of US Army Sgt Bowe Bergdahl? Calvinist? Muslim?

Hegel Guantanomo 5 ReleasesSgt Bowe Bergdahl, newly-released from his Taliban captors (having been in their custody for five years, missing since May 30th of 2009) in exchange for five very high-ranking Taliban leaders from Gitmo, has been isolated from the media and the rest of the world since his recovery.  There is no so-called “ticker tape parade” in honor of his recovery.  There is only silence.  He is, officially, being attended by psychiatrists and doctors.  Information indicates he is having trouble speaking English.

[That said — the exchange was absolutely unprecedented in the history of presidents.  No one has done so under these conditions, save Mr Obama.]

On Saturday, May 31st, the parents — Bob and Jani — of Sgt Bowe Bergdahl spoke in the Rose Garden of the Spite House with Mr Obama present.

It looked like this:

Bob Bergdahl concluded his remarks about the release of his son Bowe, praised “Allah,” and then Mr Obama hugged him.

“To the people of Afghanistan, the same.”

People are ascribing Islam to Mr and Mrs Bergdahl.  I’m not so sure.  I’m wondering if Bowe was raised Calvinist in Idaho.

“To the people of Afghanistan, the same.”

If not Calvinist, then Bob and Jani instilled various Pacifist philosophies into the wheelhouse of Bowe.  He was rejected from the French Foreign Legion.  He looked for ways to change society and — the biggest potential point yet — sought them in the US military.  This was a guy who was not only tone deaf, ignorant of history, poorly educated, naive, but sufficiently arrogant to think that he could simply change Life as we know it.

But one path proscribes another which led to: joining the US military.

Taliban prisoner swap was ILLEGAL claims GOP as former federal prosecutor says it could lead to Obama’s impeachment

  • The president ignored a law – which he signed last year – requiring him to notify Congress 30 days before releasing anyone from Guantanamo Bay
Barack Obama broke a federal law that he signed just six months ago when he authorized the release of five high-ranking Taliban terror targets from the Guantanamo Bay detention center in exchange for the return of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, senior congressional Republicans claimed today.

And at least six soldiers lost their lives in circumstances related to the Idaho native’s disappearance from his post on June 30, 2009. Parents of one dead military men were told that their son perished in a mission aimed at taking down a Taliban target, not capturing a deserter.

Add it up.

Add it all up.

It is a work in progress but it is not a good work.

P.S.
Like any good Millennial, as far as Bowe Bergdahl was concerned, it was all about him.

And what about the timing?

Joshua Cornelison: Sgt Bergdahl walked off post and put thousands at risk, got six soldiers killed

Sgt Bowe BergdahlTom Sullivan featured a caller today (Monday) who identified himself as Joshua Cornelison, a medic who had treated newly-released US Army Sgt Bowe Bergdahl for a staph infection prior to his apparent desertion.  He said that Sgt Bergdahl had only been in-country roughly six weeks when he left his small post in Afghanistan.  Purposely.

Cornelison said, in part:

… (Bergdahl) ended up walking off our small outpost in the middle of nowhere and he purposefully and willfully left under his own conscious and will and he decided he wanted his own adventure in Afghanistan and subsequently put myself and my other 29 other platoon members in tremendous amount of harm initially. And then as all the resources got shifted in to Paktika.. he put thousands and thousands of more people in danger and there were causalities because of that …

You can listen to the 12-minute radio cut here; click on the audio player.

Overall, Cornelison said:

4:24 INCornelison explains why there’s no way the Taliban could have “taken” Bergdahl
7:06 INCornelison says he’d ask Bergdahl why he abandoned his post, put fellow soldiers at risk
8:16 INCornelison explains how they lost men as a result of Bergdahl’s desertion.

This brings up some excellent questions:

  • Why is Sgt Bergdahl isolated after his acquisition?
  • Why was he worth trading for five Taliban leaders, sworn to kill Americans?
  • Why did we trade at all?
  • Why do we negotiate with terrorists?
  • Do we have no idea the consequences of negotiating with terrorists?
  • Why was Bergdahl’s father’s first words to his son from a podium in DC, in Arabic?

And many more questions.

Frankly, this stinks completely to high heaven.  More to come.
