I have been en vacanza with my wife since last Sunday and, as I customarily do with coastal vacations, I enjoy sharing photographs. So, without further ado (please click on each photo to embiggen):
Mark I, Model I, seagull, one each.
Young sea lion drifting in a kelp bed.
Mom otter with baby, coasting with a friend.
Kayaker watching the otters in Monterey Bay.
Pacific white-sided dolphins in a pack. They were traveling so fast, it was difficult to capture them in the frame.
Uh oh: to the uninitiated, are they sharks or are they dolphins?
Having played tag with the kayaker, the pod heads towards the marina.
The sea lions were likewise occasionally compelled to ring up flank speed.
View from the hotel room of Monterey Bay, looking roughly northeast.
Content harbor seal, sunning adjacent Pacific Grove.
One more day in Monterey — Monday — and then Tuesday is a drive day. Back to work on Wednesday. But one more photographic post coming.

Beautiful area – happy you are enjoying yourselves.
Got one more day, gonna see if we can catch a whale watching boat. Then we have to drive back on Tuesday. Damn.

I have always enjoyed Monterey Bay. Ever since I was assigned to the Defense Language Institute (way up on top of the hills behind you, BZ) I’ve dreamed of getting back there. The aquarium is now standing where I used to sit and watch the bay, in between drinks from Kalisa’s, a “coffee shop” popular with us young troops.
Yep, Cary, my brother went to DLI to learn Korean many years ago for the USAF. Thanks for commenting!

What are the odds? I was there in early 1981 for a short period to learn that I could not tell the difference between “drugstore” and “dictionary” in – Korean!
Maybe you missed your calling. Thanks for the photos.
Thanks for the nice words sir.
