The TelegraphUK wonders if now isn’t a good time; why is it we hear or read nothing of this from the US media?
With many voters yearning for an outsider, and military officers looked up to, General David Petraeus could be a powerful presidential candidate and a potentially accomplished President.
This is the British media calling a US general “accomplished“?
Your thoughts?

Hey Blo . . . Not a bad thought. The man is bright, talented, and charismatic. Backed up by a Conservative V.P. with good internal affairs credentials we might just return competance to the White House.

General David Petraeus For President? Interesting.
Seems we’ve been turning to foreign media over the past year plus, because that is the only place we get a non-biased opinion. Well, other than the internet and talk radio, and sometimes Fox.
Wouldn’t it be something if the General did run, and run in 2012??? He would certainly be a surprise choice, but I don’t know…
He has no political machine, money, etc behind him. I fear we may have Romney pushed on us as we did McCain, because the powers that be, like Steel, think he “next inline”. I don’t think Americans will go for that again.

BS: went to your link and commented there. Nicely done!
Mal: food for thought, eh?
Debbie: yes, of course, a long way off, but stranger things have happened. If we can embrace actors, why can’t we embrace soldiers again?

I always look to those British papers even the liberal one for the news (you are right BZ) we don’t get in the Obama humping State Run media.
Shades of Eisenhower.
BZ- an interesting thought… And the badge is mislabeled, it’s a Combat Infantry Badge
Um I’m not sure about that one. The Gen. doesn’t want it. And I’m not sure that it would be a good fit anyway. I’m sure he’s get the job done in our foreign affairs dept. BUT we have a host of NATIONAL problems that he would not be ideal for. He’s not exactly going to be a media darling, and there is a REAL concern about high ranking Mil. guys becoming the most powerful men in the world. Hugo Chavez and most middle eastern heads were gen’s or high up…Not a good way to diffuse the “Fascist” cry’s….Who knows, but we do need someone to wipe the Obama off the country.
Bushwack: who else looks good to you? I would suggest a look at P.R.
BZ
Well Bz, if you look at his pin on the upper right of the picture, it looks like the CIB ( combat infantryman badge). I have a similar one called the EIB ( expert infantryman badge) mine is without the outside leafs around it. His is a badge for seeing combat in his career. If I’m not mistaken, he should have a patch on his right shoulder for seeing combat also (its on our left, his right shoulder). As an infantryman, there is only 1 medal/badge you want to get, the coveted CIB. We don’t want a MOH, or a purple heart because most of the time that means you’ve been wounded or are now dead. In my opinion, he is a national hero amongst the army guys, because of his CIB. I think he’d be a good candidate for president, because he has seen the shitty of the shitty. I ask you BZ, shouldn’t a requirement be for president to have served in the armed forces? I see it as: in order to lead an army, one must know the trials and tribulations of a common soldier. It is the highest honor to be president.
Truthfully BZ, NOBODY is looking real good in my eyes yet, I’m waiting to throw my support behind anyone.
I think by the time Obama gets done with us, we will need a Ted Nugent/Joe Arpaio ticket to pull us out of the shit.
Chris, I wouldn’t be against it myself but I’ll wager many would rail against that as a requirement considering the civilian nature of the position. . .

Some are touting Petraeus, some say LtCol Allen West, I have no objections to either, but before they are POTUS, they need to hold an elected office and DO something…
We don’t need another community organizer that can’t find his ass with a road map and a Garmin…
That’s interesting Fred, I haven’t heard of LtCol Allen West.

Allen West for US Congress 2010
Allen West – Google Search
And I am certain you know who he is, the Army tried to railroad him for some unorthodox interrogation procedures a while back… I really like the man, a lot, but I don’t think he’s ready for the White House just yet..
Hey Fred, thanks for the links sir.

I frequently find the biggest difference between TF and me is that I’d probably refer to it as “feces”. Otherwise, we think much alike.
Military leaders make and execute decisions differently than civilians. If a military leader is successful, it doesn’t matter so much how that success came about…
Don’t like my leadership style?
Eat feces. And so long as he is successful he’ll keep his job, (barring a few extremes).
A civilian leader obviously has to “politic” while leading. Make enemies along the way and you’ll eventually be be replaced by the Board of Directors or some other superior. The civilian game is necessarily played differently.
A good military leader may or may not make the transition to being a good civilian leader, and vice-versa. I could not have been more delighted when Wesley Clark was eliminated early in the last Presidential primaries…
He’s a self-loving jerk.
(Uhh… wait a minute… I’m now comparing him to the guy that got elected. Let me get back to ya.)
I like Allen West a lot. I like what I’ve seen of Petraeus but would want to see/hear more of him before pulling the lever for him.
