Richard Baehr in American Thinker wrote on Sunday the 21st:
President Obama’s approval numbers in the Rasmussen daily tracking poll have been quite volatile the last few weeks but today reached a new basement level — with only 22% expressing strong approval, and 41% strong disapproval. The 19% margin favoring strong disapproval is the 2nd widest registered since Obama took office, and the 22% strong approval number is a new low.
Might this not be an indication, to otherwise clear-thinking individuals, that a discussion is in order regards the direction of the Obama Administration?
Apparently not.
In stark contrast to what BC writes about the so-called “raving popularity” of ObamaKare:
The Rasmussen survey shows support for the health care bill at 39% and opposition at 58%. For liberals in Congress, a massive new entitlement that will bring 30 million more Americans into a program relying on federal subsidies to provide insurance is a 50 year dream. Leaders from safe districts (like Pelosi) seem willing to sacrifice the seats of other members, and even control of the House after 2010, in order to get a comprehensive health care reform passed. Anyone who thought that the election results, in New Jersey and Virginia in November 2009 and in Massachusetts Senate race in January, would lead to a reassessment of the Administration’s priorities seems to have misunderstood the liberal passion for a big, expensive, health care reform
bill . There has been no pivot to focusing on a job bills, or deficit control, which seem far higher priorities with American voters than health care reform. No televised summits are planned for these subjects.Democrats in Congress, now face a possible loss of control in the House, with 70 or more vulnerable seats (the Republicans with fewer than 10) and Republicans leading in races for 8 Senate seats held by Democrats. Democrats in Congress are far less popular than President Obama, and the number of Americans who think the country is heading in the wrong direction is more than twice as large as the number who think the country is heading in the right direction in the latest Rasmussen survey at 65% to 28%. These are numbers similar to those in the last years of the Bush administration.
This final paragraph sums up:
There is ample reason for Michael Barone to say the Democrats now face their worst political environment in more than half a century. The question is why they are doubling down on what brought them from the messianic approval heights of early 2009 to the current sinking levels.
The Demorats are doing precisely the opposite of what they should.
Carpe diem.

BZ,
I wish I could feel joy at these developments. But I remember the Repubs and their inept handling of congress. They spent like Dems and that cost them the support of their party, including me. I’m not going to give in to the feeling that the Dems are screwed. I’m not sure the Repubs are the same. Interesting post.
L&O makes a very valid point, the Dems turned HARD left many years ago and Conservative Dems became Reagan Conservatives.
The GOP spent and mismanaged like drunken sailors…
Thus we have Obama, a bastard of the WORST order, a combination of Communist, Marxist, Socialist and everything that is morally wrong with America today…
The GOP put Obama in place as much, if not more, than any Dems did…
And I’m not sure if the GOP is any better than the Dems, they BOTH suck swamp water…
And of late, I am having serious doubts about the so-called Conservative movement as well… Every time some broken down lying POS of a RINO wants to run for office, he learns the Conservative spiel, gets on a soapbox and goes to preaching…
And the Conservatives hail him as the next Ronald Reagan… Gullible bastards…
LOT & TF: and that’s my very point underscored time and again, confirming what my high school civics teacher said many times — about the only thing I actually recall with clarity from high school — “Democrats don’t win elections, Republicans lose them.”
Two things have to occur with unusual circumstance — almost like the appearance of Halley’s Comet:
First, the Dems have to put everything in the Hurt Locker as they are doing now;
Second, the GOP has to be smart enough, reactive enough, have a plan in place and a person or series of persons in place with which to take advantage.
The first is true; the second is not.

Here’s a salient observation as well:
“Glenn Beck best summed up the feelings of the people at CPAC. He blasted the Republican party. He said the Democrats were the party of “Tax and Spend,” while the Republicans were just the party of “Spend,” and it’s got to stop. He said the Republicans better wake up and get it.”

Obama does appear to be pushing ahead in his quest to nationalize of health service. I don’t know what luck he will have in his party with the arm twisting and threats, that remains to be seen, but it does seem that many democrats are getting cold feet and the votes may not be there for him even using the nuclear option. I think that if Obama loses this fight on health care his goose is cooked and I feel he is aware of this thus the doubling down.

Yeah, you got a clue, lol.
bd: you are clearly a young person. You plan on getting older? You planning on having kids? You planning on having a career not subsidized by the federal government? If you buy off my Mr Obama’s programs you’ve just doomed yourself and your children and your children’s children to the largest deficit in the history of the entire planet. I submit: with age, you should also acquire some maturity and experience, and the ability to see beyond a nice smile and sincere good wishes. Deeds, my friend, not words.

I just can’t help think that the far left’s rejoicing over Republicans saying they can’t vote for someone who’s not a dyed in the wool Conservative on every single point that makes them so…
I think Republicans are in far more trouble than the Dems are right now…especially if the RNC doesn’t get on board with the small gov’t the tea partiers want.
I just got told at my blog that Scott Brown is going along with Obama’s jobs bill. oy
Interesting post- good points too! thanks!
The White House Obamacare proposal was published this morning. More of the same stuff, nothing new, more spending.
BZ-
I’m toying with the idea of assuming a name and coming back here to leave the stupidest, most naive comments I can possibly write, just to irritate you.
Got any ideas for a good “pseudonym”?
It will be interesting to see how much the dissatisfaction with the demorats will overcome the tendency to reelect incumbents. I think they still enjoy somewhere around a 90% reelection rate.
Your high school civics teacher hit the nail on the head.
Greybeard: “bd” will work. . .

Baloney, the plan is deficit neutral and besides, it’s time we take care of our won, don’t you think. Every major civilized country in the world does. You like being ripped of by big pharma insurance companies, denied overage?
YOU climate change deniers are the ones dooming your grandchildren.
I am most likely older than you.
Yes the supporters of all things federal always claim any new spending is ‘deficit neutral’ while it is economically negative to the economy taking money out of people’s pockets. The folks who earn the money, who make the money… they are the ones who count.
Then ask them to name one program, ANY program in the federal government that has: 1) Come in on budget, 2) Come in on time, 3) Not expanded over time, 4) Actually was ‘deficit neutral’ without taking any more money from the economy, as a whole. Name one. The Atom Bomb didn’t, nor the Apollo program, nor any welfare or poverty program, nor Medicare/Medicaid, nor SSN, nor any Dept of Agriculture program… the result is zero.
When you keep performing the same experiment expecting to get different results you are insane.
