White House orders Justice Department to look for other places to hold 9/11 terror trial

Why?

Two reasons, I submit:
1. Holder and Obama are trying to mitigate the flak they’ve been taking with regard to this issue specifically and recent issues in general, in concert with
2. They are privy to information indicating there may be an act attempted at the venue, and other sites may be more defensible.
Or was it something this simple:

Meanwhile, a source told The News that Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly was the driving force behind the push by Manhattan business leaders to change the mayor’s mind on the trial.

Kelly made an “extremely powerful” speech to a roomful of 150 prominent business leaders about how disruptive and costly the trial would be for lower Manhattan at an annual police charity event on Jan. 13, the source said.

“What turned this around was when Ray made a presentation to the Police Foundation,” the source said. “Everyone went from thinking, ‘Justice will be served’ to thinking ‘We are screwed.'”

What followed was a barrage of complaints to the mayor from some of New York’s most powerful tycoons – part of a tide of pressure that led Bloomberg to turn against hosting the trial.

Estimates put the cost of a multiyear terror trial in lower Manhattan at about $200 million a year. Leaders have suggested other venues for the trial, such as the Military Academy at West Point or Stewart Air National Guard Base in upstate Newburgh.

The federal government has said they would reimburse the city for the costs, most of which cover overtime for increased security, but they won’t reimburse business owners for lost revenue during the chaos, said Steven Spinola, president of the heavyweight business group Real Estate Board of New York.

The idea of trying KSM and his minions in civilian courts is flawed on its face, as is Mirandizing and then trying Mr Fruit-of-the-Loom in a civilian venue as well.

  1. I just never realized that I was Bloviating all these years; what a relief to discover this oasis in a desert sea of idiocy, arrogance and utter comtempt of history and truth. It takes guts to enter the arena of ideas and not just sit on the sidelines and take ignorant potshots at those who care enough to actually try and solve challenges instead of just bitching about them over several martini’s.
It is late and I am pooped, but I will be back. Gladly, back.
    Thanks B.Z.

  2. BHO remains committed to trying these terrorists in criminal court.

Of course, I rejoice that the trials have been moved out of NYC.

But just where will these trials take place? What damage will these trials afflict upon that chosen venue?

Maybe the trials should be moved straight into BHO’s Illinois district. After all, if that district hadn’t elected him to the U.S. Senate in the first place, BHO wouldn’t have been inflicted upon our nation as President.

  3. Vikinggirl: uh, thanks. Thanks for visiting and thanks for taking the time to comment. I’ll wait for the weekend for that martini but, however, I’ll make mine a Ketel vodka instead.

AOW: or better yet, why not close to the heart of Mr Obama? Find a nice building in DC.

  4. I think Governor’s Island would be perfect. I was stationed there while in the Coast Guard. It is very defensible if you are worried about an attack, and is in the gaze of Lady Liberty across the river. How could that be more fitting than for these human lice to be condemned in her presence?

  5. ooooo, I like Tim’s idea.
Is it bad I want these men to suffer….for a really long time.
Then cut off their dicks before we kill them so they can’t have fun with any virgins in their afterworld. fuhkers.

  6. All US flagged ships at sea are US territory… so how about putting the court on, say, a nice aircraft carrier? Really those things are pretty damn safe, have thousands of sailors aboard, plus Marines and are damned near impossible to take over, sink or escape overland from.

For that matter if you absolutely must have these bozos on US territory, a ship anchored in the Bering Sea would be peachy, I should think. That HAS been done in prior wars.

  7. Our current “colored” president and his atty general, eric holder, et al,are the problem wanting them tried in a civil court!
The attack they caused was not a civil action, but a true enemy terrost attack, and thusly must be taken to a military tribunal for action.
Maybe soon, the obama tribe will dis-band, and our Republic can get back to the basics our Constitution provides for.

  8. A Jacksonian, that a great idea, a naval ship. But Obama would never go for that I suspect he still favors a civilian court. It will still be a show where ever it is held. No good for Obama and company, but then he’s more concerned with the rest of the world and not us stupid America voters.

  9. Ron – I was thinking along the lines of a CV for the trial then some beat-up freighter sans engine as a prison vessel. Tow that out to the middle of the Pacific and drop supplies to them once a week. We can even put in a compass with a correction for Mecca! Pretty hard to hijack a ship without an engine, or get anyone to it in the middle of the Pacific far from land.

Really I would like to see the lot of them tried under the GC as spies and saboteurs. Short, sweet and summary. Absolutely within our UCMJ and GC! And they can close down Gitmo to just a couple of buildings for interrogation and short-term holding. But then following our laws and international law doesn’t appeal to the Left… they prefer to make up stuff as they go along and play Calvinball with warfare. That gets a lot of innocents killed. Doing the ‘nice’ thing gets folks killed, while doing the right thing, no matter how sad, keeps civilization going.
