Betrayal

Poland and the Czech Republic are (scratch that, were) two of the strongest allies the United States has (scratch that, had) in Europe.

They believe their countries’ safety has been betrayed by this current administration:

WARSAW, Poland – Poles and Czechs voiced deep concern Friday at President Barack Obama’s decision to scrap a Bush-era missile defense shield planned for their countries.

“Betrayal! The U.S. sold us to Russia and stabbed us in the back,” the Polish tabloid Fakt declared on its front page.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski said he was concerned that Obama’s new strategy leaves Poland in a dangerous “gray zone” between Western Europe and the old Soviet sphere.

But please note this:

The Bush administration always said that the planned system — with a radar near Prague and interceptors in northern Poland — was meant as defense against Iran. But Poles and Czechs saw it as protection against Russia, and Moscow too considered a military installation in its backyard to be a threat.

So Mr Obama has backed down.

He has backed down to Iran. And he has backed down to Russia.

What might your conclusions be? I know mine. . .

  1. He has said he wants a world with no nukes. I didn’t know that he meant a world where WE have no nukes but all the bad guys do. I had hoped Gates would grow a set and try to fight this, not that it would do any good, but he didn’t even try to talk him out of it.

  2. The Son of a Buck Loving BITCH that inhabits the Oval Office is nothing more than an America hating COWARD…

A COWARD I tell you, and he WILL give this nation over to the other side, THAT is his full intent…

  3. This is particularly galling for me as I have associates from Poland and know of Poland’s deep and historical love of America.

This really IS a GREAT disappointment to those two countries who were dePENDing on our help.

Trust me, it’s not about the technical aspects of the missile system; it IS, however, all about the POLITICAL aspects of their placement.

I can think of no word worth summation other than “appeasement.”

  4. Our commanders trusted the Poles to hold the center of Iraq while we fought towards the periphery. The Poles delivered.

The Poles were praised by Iraqis for being very devout and yet able to work with the locals. It was the Poles who found the old nerve gas shells of the Hussein regime.

Poles have backed us since before 9/11.

Poles sent Light Cavalry to the US.

To the command of Gen. George Washington.

To fight beside and die with our soldiers in the Revolution.

There was little we could do as Europe trisected and bisected Poland. We were unwilling to stand up for free and fair elections after WWII. And it was the Poles who took the first public and hard stance against Communism inside the Eastern Bloc and did what we could not do, which was start that entire system crumbling from the inside.

They have extended their hand of help to us whenever they could get a Nation that was free. And now this.

If we cannot support those that supported us whenever they could hold their Nation together while Europe played power games… and who look to us as a light of liberty and freedom… then we no longer deserve anyone’s friendship on this planet and we have no honor at all as a Nation.

A country that disdains its agreements and slaps its friends and allies in the face deserves no friends or allies. And gets only enemies. That is where that path is headed. Any who cheer that on wishes death upon us all.

  5. I believe that the Czechs and Poles need to start building their own weapons of mass destruction. They’ve been invaded so many times throughout history and need to create THEIR OWN SECURITY. The United States is acting as the savior for everyone.

HOWEVER, Czechs and Poles are good people and we should support them by showing them how to do the above. Our President’s goal seems to be destroying any semblences of a balance of power…

  6. I think that those missiles would provoke Russia into doing something more dangerous, like helping Iran get a nuke. Remember how we reacted when Russia tried to help its “little buddy” Cuba with some missiles? A little REALPOLITIK is in order. America is capable of many things, but not all things. Be content that we have wrested the Warsaw Pact countries from Russia’s grasp. It is foolhardy to try to integrate them into NATO. That’s just asking for WW3.
