Not Just The Pork: It’s The Power

TARP I – passed. Thank you, Mr Bush.

TARP II – passed. Thank you, Mr Bush and Washington.

Two plans now for stimulus packages: House, roughly $820 billion. Senate, roughly $827 billion.

Mr Obama praised the Senate version and urges speed speed speed speed speed. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Ask no questions. Trust your government. Verification not required.

As Mr Obama recently said, “By the way, these days everybody thinks they’re economists.” Translated: you’re a dolt. I’m more intelligent. I know better than you how to spend your hard-earned tax dollars. Just be quiet and don’t interfere.

As Bushwack recently pointed out in my last post’s comments with remarkably clarity and perspicacity:

Who said: “We have chosen hope over fear“?

And who said: “A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe“?

Yep, the same man, Barack Hussein Obama. I guess fear is only good when you need it. **sigh**

Truer words were never written, dear sir. Fear works only when it works for you, eh, Mr Obama?

Mr Biden, however, may not be as completely asinine as he’s been in the past when he stated:

Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged today that Democrats could face political repercussions in 2010 for their support of the $900 billion economic stimulus package.

An “anonymous” commenter on my last post indicated that “your ignorance of economics is shown by your criticism of the stimulus bill. We really DO need this stimulus, it really IS stimulus, even the alleged ‘pork’ in the bill puts money in the hands of CONSUMERS, which is what stimulates the economy.”

I asked then and I ask now: where is it, pray tell, that money is being placed into the hands of the actual consumers in the country? Where is the proof? Documentation? Charles Krauthammer writes about the Urgency Of Pork here. Further, Mitt Romney says the “stimulus package” stimulates only government and not the overall economy.

93% pork, 7% stimulus: Republican Senator James Inhofe (OK) issued this statement on Friday:

While I appreciate the efforts of my colleagues to bring down the price tag of this bill, the fact is we still face a trillion dollar spending bill. Making it worse, the bill is 93% spending and only 7% stimulation. Over the past few days I have fought to include more in the way of real stimulus through higher percentage of infrastructure and defense spending, while working to cut much of the typical government waste often found in a bill of this size. Yet Democrats have blocked these efforts.

“The good news tonight is that the American people are catching on to the fact that this is the largest spending bill in history and are becoming more and more vocal in their opposition. My offices in Oklahoma and Washington DC have been flooded with emails, phone calls and faxes overwhelmingly opposed to this trillion dollar legislation. They can rest assured that my vote remains an unwavering ‘no.'”

U.S. Rep. David Obey (D-WI), the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, helped write the bill and says he doesn’t like being asked about earmarks.

“We simply made a decision, which took about three seconds, not to have earmarks in the bill,” he says. “And with all due respect, that’s the least important question facing us on putting together this package.”

Leaving out the earmarks does mean Congress will have less control over how the money is spent. But, Obey says, “So what? This is an emergency. We’ve got to simply find a way to get this done as fast as possible and as well as possible, and that’s what we’re doing.”

That doesn’t mean Congress will be responsible if the money is spent badly, he says.

Can you believe the lies? No earmarks? No pork? Nope! he says. Nothing of that nature in the current “stimulus” package. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Yes, the Demorats truly and fervently believe you ARE that stupid, electorate.

What’s more, they’re COUNTING on your ignorance and, moreover, indifference.

Further, as Rivka was keen enough to point out on Saturday (I didn’t see this coming):

President Obama has decided to bring the U.S. Census Bureau under White House jurisdiction, a move that incensed House Republicans, who fired off a blistering letter to him Thursday, calling it “outrageous and unprecedented” and a “blatant partisan and political maneuver.”

Think that Republicans “suggested” that “the move could improperly influence legislative redistricting, which is shaped by Census counts“? Really? Could that be?

Pork and Power. All in one. Right off the bat.

    Hey BZ:
It don’t take a rocket science to see the so called stimulus plan is a bad idea. Bush was wrong and now Obama is wrong. Obama talked about change but he is adding damner a trillion dollars to our already soaring debt. I wish that anonymous commenter would tryto go toe to toe with these facts. The truth is that they have all been mass hypnotized by President Obama and will do anything to justify his fuck ups. Bottom line. He is fulla crap and his policies are stupid and won’t do anything but increase government intrusion into our lives and take away more of our personal freedoms.

What these libnazis don’t seem to understand is that a society cannot grow without people. All that population control shit they have included in this bill is utterly shameful.

Revolution? You aren’t the only one talking about one. Pretty soon, American taxpayers will wake up and realize that we’ve been shouldering the burden of inept, corrupt politicians decisions to rape us and say NO MORE!

I anxiously await this moment. Apparently nobody in my family sees through the veneer of bs yet. But they will in time.

  2. I am from Maine and can’t believe our two republican senators will be doing us all in by voting for the Dem’s lottery win. Shame on them. If they have any hope of furthering their political careers, there is not a Republican alive who would vote for them again.

  3. I do not understand why people are having diffculty understanding. The number of unemployed people (11.6 million) and the unemployment rate (7.6 percent) rose in January. Over the past 12 months, the number of unemployed persons has increased by 4.1 million. The Department of Labor reported today that nonfarm payroll employment fell sharply in January (-598,000) and the unemployment rate rose from 7.2 to 7.6 percent. Payroll employment has declined by 3.6 million since the start of the recession in December 2007, …. most of this mess happening only in past three months! And some wonder Obama is pushing so hard for a stimulus package. Is the Herbert Hoover approach, do nothing, all we need, leading us to a twelve year depression ??

  4. Palpatine went from Chancellor of the Galactic Republic to Emperor of the Galactic Empire through an emergency he created. Life imitates art again.

Herbert Hoover did act and acted wrong. Roosevelt, like Hoover, only made it worse, but he had better press to cover up his mistakes.

  5. There is some historical evidence that massive government spending will give the economy the boost it needs but what really needs to happen is for Mr. and Mrs. Average to start believing in America again, and start buying stuff. This could take a very long time to happen . . . . . I’m afraid this particular crap storm is going to take awhile to sort out.

  6. “There is some historical evidence that massive government spending will give the economy the boost it needs”

Actually it doesnt except for going into a massive war and removing millions of consumers from the marketplace (drafting millions into service). WWII, Korea, Vietnam brought about some of the “best” ecomnomic times in the US the end of them also brought some of the worst. The recession from 46 thru 52, The recession of the mid to late 50s and the recession at beginning of the early 70s which was helped along by the Arab oil embargo.

  7. ….President Obama has decided to bring the U.S. Census Bureau under White House jurisdiction, a move that incensed House Republicans, who fired off a blistering letter to him Thursday, calling it “outrageous and unprecedented” and a “blatant partisan and political maneuver.”….

Guess where a lot of the census takers will come from? Can you say ACORN!! I’ll BET! Talk about pork! He sure did just PORK Judd Gregg, as well as all Americans!

Your rant below shows why the so called stimulus plan is not a good idea. Firstly, President Obama is talking about creating three to four million jobs within the next two years. By your figures that is woefully insufficient to offset the unemployment problem we now have. Secondly, there is evidence to suggest that the New Deal did nothing but harm our economy in the long run. The devaluation of gold, the increased borrowing from the FED, skyrocketing our national debt among other reasons are given. But check out this CATO Institute article if you don’t believe me. I like it because it was written in 2003 and is not biased by the current climate.
So the stimulus package may very well INCREASE our depression and NOT shorten it.

As to people needing to spend money to stimulate the economy, sure that is true. But perhaps people will now think wiser about how they spend their money and stop using credit for everything. We got greedy and lived beyond our means as Americans for so long, now we have to do what our parents did; SAVE and have a GARDEN. The food supply issue will only worsen in this depression.
