Stimulus And Backlash

Apparently the inappropriately-named “stimulus” package is going to pass. No shock there, considering Pelosi and the Demorats have decided the Republicans can go straight to Hell and a speedy adoption is infinitely more important than “bipartisanship.” Bipartisanship. Right.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Amid stunning new job losses and yet another bank failure, key senators and the White House reached tentative agreement Friday night on an economic stimulus measure at the heart of President Barack Obama’s recovery plan. Two officials said the emerging agreement was for a bill with a $780 billion price tag, but there was no immediate confirmation.

At $780 billion, the legislation would be smaller than the measure that cleared the House on a party-line vote last week. It also would mean a sharp cut from the bill that has been the subject of Senate debate for a week. That measure stood at $937 billion.

Beyond the numbers, though, any agreement would mark a victory for the new president and would keep Democratic leaders on track to fulfill their promise of delivering him a bill to sign by the end of next week.

You and I both know the bill will pass. Remember McCain’s amnesty ramdown? This is the same damned thing. “Speed is of the essence.” Yeah. Speed. So the bill can’t be discussed further and its pork exposed more to the light of day:

In a statement sure to rile Republicans, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Friday dismissed calls for bipartisanship as “process” arguments extraneous to passing a stimulus bill — and warned Senate Democrats against slashing proposed increases to education spending.

But bad things are brewing “locally” as well.

In Fornicalia, the lack of a budget (gee, only months overdue) and economic pressures have caused counties in the state to begin to fight back.

First, the State of Fornicalia has officially stated that taxpayers won’t get their refunds.

Counties in California say they’ve had enough – and they aren’t going to take it anymore. In what amounts to a Boston Tea Party-style revolt against the state Capitol, they’re threatening to withhold money.

Los Angeles is considering such an option. And Colusa County supervisors said they authorized payment delays for February.

“We didn’t vote on it, because I don’t think anybody wants to go to jail,” Colusa County Supervisor Kim Vann said.

Closer to home, Sacramento County is planning to file a lawsuit this week against the state and Controller John Chiang for withholding millions of dollars – much of it for social service programs.

“The Legislature authorized those expenditures, and (the controller) has decided to withhold it,” said Susan Peters, chairwoman of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. “I believe it’s possible other counties will be joining in the action.”

Intemperate reactions?

Revolution?

Anarchy?

Guess what: it’s already happening.

This should not be unexpected. President Barack Hussein Obama has already sent a plain and clear signal that it is not so important that persons pay their taxes. Right?

  1. It should read
President Barack Hussein Obama has already sent a plain and clear signal that it is not so important that DEMOCRAT CRONY persons pay their taxes. Right?

Since they are giving away 1 TRILLION plus why dont they spread it out between the 3 to 3.5 million OWNER OCCUPIED loans headed for forclosure. That would be about 30K each. That would make the banks “toxic” loans good, solidify housing prices. This would free up the stimulus money the banks ALREADY have because they dont need to hoard the money to cover the required margin reserves associated with loans that are worthless since they are no longer worthless.
This means there is money to loan. Businesses can get operating loans. Busnesses can stop laying people off because they have operating cash. People who have jobs spend money. People spending money requires companies to hire more people to make stuff to sell.

  2. Who said “We have chosen HOPE over Fear”?

And who said “A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe.”?

Yep the same man, Barack Hussein Obama.
I guess fear is only good when you need it…*sigh*

  3. No to “stimulus” bill. Here’s why:
Since Obama’s earnest drive to convince the nation to weaken its economic strength through redistribution as well as weaken its national defense, has confirmed the very threats to our Republic’s survival that the Constitution was designed to avert, it no longer is sustainable for the United States Supreme Court and Military Joint Chiefs to refrain from exercising WHAT IS THEIR ABSOLUTE CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO DEFEND THE NATION FROM UNLAWFUL USURPATION. The questions of Obama’s Kenyan birth and his father’s Kenyan/British citizenship (admitted on his own website) have been conflated by his sustained unwillingnes to supply his long form birth certificate now under seal, and compounded by his internet posting of a discredited ‘after-the-fact’ short form ‘certificate’. In the absence of these issues being acknowledged and addessed, IT IS MANIFEST THAT OBAMA REMAINS INELIGIBLE TO BE PRESIDENT UNDER ARTICLE 2 OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. Being a 14th Amendment ‘citizen’ is not sufficient. A ‘President’ MUST BE an Article 2 ‘natural born citizen’ AS DEFINED BY THE FRAMERS’ INTENT.

  4. WMD: oh no no no no no no no no no! That would put the power back into the Little Persons’ hands and, for shit’s sake, Government CAN’T give YOU the power! What the hell are you thinking??

    D: indeed.

Bush: you know, that’s an EXCELLENT point.

Ted: a once-interesting concept but one that even SCOTUS refused to examine already. What you WILL see, however, probably before the RIFs start again, is a number of senior military personnel beginning to retire. Our forces are already wondering about their new Commander In Chief. And Ted, thanks for visiting and thanks for taking the time to comment, sir!

  5. I am sure that all those fine folks on the Left who yelled about ‘chickenhawks’ will now line up for the ‘good war’ that they also talked about and seek to be sent to Afghanistan… I mean that is the intellectually consistent attitude and would demonstrate commitment to what they said.

    As for what we see…

    Well…

The modern Shaysites will have much better communications and, strangely, be better armed than the forces arrayed against them this time. While Washington, Jackson and Lincoln could make the case for the need of federal troops to suppress rebellion and civil war, the modern Left cannot as they are the ones who are against all war and all fighting, apparently. The Left doesn’t like that sort of thing at all… so it will be left to the police. The police are already having problems with gangs. Against a well-armed population… plus being underpaid and out gunned?

    The Shaysites will return.

And this time there is no Washington, Madison, Franklin, Hamilton or Burr around… no Adams’ either… and thus there will be no next Convention to stop them, to promise that the politicians really *didn’t mean it*. It is far too late to try and ‘ban guns’ or ‘assault weapons’. And if you hadn’t missed it, the federal government hasn’t needed as much ammo as it did in Iraq and so the first of the post-Iraq, post-election ammmo supplies are starting to roll out. I’ve found a number of good deals and notice more appearing… still a lot of empty shelf space out there for the more name brand material, but the secondary suppliers are moving in.

Yes, America is destined to be remade by a revolution with the banner: “No Taxation Without Representation”.

Just one fine Shays away as the tinder dries and the hot air moves out from Washington to dry more still… one spark with this power grab… just one spark… and the winds of the storm we have talked about will be here.

    It is a firestorm.

  6. None of you have clue what you are talking about.

I know that sounds harsh, but it is clearly true.

After all: not only are you all showing deep ignorance of basic economics, but you are also showing deep ignorance of how politics works.

Your ignorance of economics is shown by your criticism of the stimulus bill. We really DO need this stimulus, it really IS stimulus, even the alleged ‘pork’ in the bill puts money in the hands of CONSUMERS, which is what stimulates the economy.

Your ignorance of how politics works is shown by your criticism of the Democrats and the President, who have been bending over backwards for DAYS now, granting totally unnecessary concessions to the Republicans, even concessions that HURT the economy, all for the sake of bipartisanship.

But what has been the Repub response to this goodwill gesture? More childish and dishonest behavior. That is all.

And yes, it really is dishonest. The Repubs whined that the stimulus needed to have more tax cuts, so the Dems ADDED them. It is now up to 42% of the bill!

But now that all this has been added, how many Repubs do we see supporting the stimulus. Two!

So they lied to the Dems, they lied to their constituents, they lied to the whole country.

How much longer will you support such shameless liars?

  7. Yep Anonymous, we iz all just ignerant, thank u fer showing us the err of hour way, you are a really fart smeller. Uh, wait.

Go fuck yourself you cowardly libber asskisser…

  8. Anonymous: you may not know it, but I seldom delete comments here. But I beg you to SHOW, via LINKS (as I do) where this trillion dollar package places control back into the hands of the CONSUMER as you allege.

And WHAT “bending over backwards” have the Demorats done for Republicans? Provide the links (as I do).

Show me historical EVIDENCE via links (as I do) where this has worked in the past.

Show us all. You know so much. Do it. Display your historical knowledge.

  9. BZ, I guess we should be glad the republicans managed to pare $157 billion off the original bill. At least it’s a start.

Anomynous, go drown yourself on somemore of that delicious koolaid and quite showing your friggin ignorance! Fred, why did you hold back so much on your response to anom?

  10. anny
Enlighten us on just how giving ACORN 50 million is going to create jobs.
Hichway building will not create 3 million new jobs like Obama claims. Unless he is planning on chain gangs of thousands with picks and shovels making roads

  11. Anonymous:

As I wrote earlier, this package contains:

“$200 million for the beautification of the National Mall, including $21 million for sod; over $200 million for contraceptives and the abortion industry; $650 million for digital TV coupons; $136 billion for the creation of at least 32 new government programs – as Representative Boehner’s website explains, more than a third of H.R.1’s spending provisions would go towards growing the government—not the economy; $600 million for new cars for the federal bureaucrats; $50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts; $6 billion for colleges and universities; $300 billion to bail out state governments; increased spending on over 150 different federal programs; $335 million for for sexually transmitted disease education and prevention programs.”

    Stimulus there? Anywhere? Bueller?
