Plus, allow me to add this little tidbit: it is hinted that the GOP is going to go again with Robert “Mike” Duncan as RNC Chairman.
Uh, like he did so wonderfully this past year?
One more time, I will put you on notice, RNC: just when I was thinking about donating again, if you leave Hunter in place and refuse to install new blood in the form of, say, Michael Steele, you can kiss any future cash from me quite fare-thee-well.
There HAS to be a change, GOP and, right now, I’m not much impressed.
Uncle Tom. Sellout. Race traitor. Minstrel. Self-hater. Sambo.
African Americans, who have known for centuries that living, breathing, groveling, shuffling characters walk among us who actually match these caricatures, have been put on notice that it is taboo to point out the obvious.
The latest Dem/GOP/corporate assault on Black internal political autonomy targeted The News Blog, operated by Black New Yorker Steve Gilliard. Gilliard altered a photo of Maryland’s Black Republican Lt. Governor, Michael S. Steele, a candidate for U.S. senator, to conform more closely to the historical archetype that Steele’s reflexive subordinate behavior most resembles. “Simple Sambo wants to move to the big house,” read the caption under what Gilliard had made to look like a flyer for Steele’s one-man minstrel show.
Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican. Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an “Uncle Tom” and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.
“Operatives for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) also obtained a copy of his credit report — the only Republican candidate so targeted.
“But black Democrats say there is nothing wrong with “pointing out the obvious. There is a difference between pointing out the obvious and calling someone names,” said a campaign spokesman for Kweisi Mfume, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate and former president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.”
Mr. Steele is the best of a bad lot. He is convivial on many things, will not be seen as an ardent supporter of some things people want ardent support of, and tends to get a bit too far ahead in his tactics and can get over run by others doing that. He needs some seasoning, but the others looked to be over-done… by himself he can be a good spokesman and if he can cut his work down to just a very few good avenues on the economy, taxes and supporting our Nation while not indenturing her population to the government, it will be to the good.
He can twist that last very hard, if he puts his mind to it. If he does the KISS principle he will do well… if he tries to play to every part of the diverse base, he will fail and waste effort and time.
The year to come back is not 2012… but 2010. Time is awasting…
Congratulations to Michael Steele, I wish him, and the RNC much luck!
That said, it appears that a lot of bloggers are almost ‘giddy’ with joy at the election of Steele to the position of Chairman. I am sure Steele is a great choice, I hope he is because right about NOW would be a really GREAT time for Steele to make EVERY effort to move the RNC back to some TRUE Republican roots, and as far away from being nothing more than *Dem Lite* as is possible. No more RINOs! EVER!! RINOs have destroyed the Republican party.
If the RNC doesn’t go back to being REPUBLICAN, if the RNC doesn’t stop trying to be as much like the Dems as they can, I will STILL be an Independent, and the Republican party will continue to be the party of weak-assed old losers, John McCain, and will continue to lose Congressional and Senatorial seats to the Dems.
Am I being a hard-ass?? You bet I am, it’s time to fight or forget it, and I am NOT going to support ANY candidate that’s not Conservative 1st, not until such time that the RNC becomes the party of true Conservatism, and nothing BUT Conservatism!
One story I saw leads off with Michael Steele becomes first black RNC chairman. Personally, I don’t care if he’s green with purple polka-dots. It’s what kind of JOB he can do to bring the Republican party back into line with CONSERVATISM, that is the goal that must be kept in sight!
Without the Conservatives of this nation the Republican party can forget ANY election, and I personally know many Republicans that are now far more inclined towards pure Conservatism than they are the RNC party policy. Steele had best keep this in mind, otherwise, being a Republican means about as much as it did under the last RNC chairman.
Return INTEGRITY to the RNC Mr. Steele, if you can do that, then there is a great possibility the Republicans can take this nation by storm in 2010!
Great post!

AJ: This is THE major comment of 2009: look to 2010!
TF: I’m not giddy, I just want something OTHER than what hasn’t worked in the past, and what HASN’T worked was Mike Duncan. I’m ready to try Steele. If HE doesn’t work, then HE needs to be replaced.

He’ll do well if he remembers to prioritize our battles. We have a tough 2 years ahead and cannot hope to have everything go our way, BUT we can win some of the battles. Some things can not be changed once they are done. Iran with nukes and delivery—better not happen. Decimate our military—better not happen. Legalize 20 million illegal aliens—BETTER NOT FREAKIN HAPPEN!!!! These three things and probably a few more should be fought tooth and nail with every fiber of our collective being. I agree with AJ and Fred, we can and better start RIGHT NOW gaining a lot of seats in 2010. America can not afford 4 years of that mental midget having control of both houses!
BZ, that wasn’t directed at you, it was a copy and paste from my blog post… Sorry if you thought it was…
But, that said, MANY are damned near orgasmic at the very IDEA of Steele as the new head of the DNC.
He’s an unproven quality, he hasn’t done anything yet, but he either returns the RNC to CONSERVATISM or we bury the damned thing and all these Republican hangers on that are nothing more than RINOs, Dem Lite…
For me, it’s CONSERVATISM, real Conservatism, or nothing at all, I am tired of shit sandwiches being sold as peanut butter…
With what he has to work with, I wish him all the best.
I wish him well.
I like Mr. Steele……at least he’s not a Righ-Wing Religous Nut Case.
TF: I agree, real Conservatism with a capital C.
And Ranando: we’ll just have to see. The one light in the tunnel appears to have recently occurred when, shock of shocks, ALL the Republicans in the House opposed the bailout bill this past week.
BZ
I will remember those Republicans that voted against this time around, I’m all for them.
I will also remember those Republicans that voted for it the first time around.
I take my hat off to any Republican and Democrat that voted against it.
If I remember correctly, Steele was against it.
Ranando: Steele never won that senate seat. Consequently he never had any chance to vote.
BZ
That is amazing & wonderful to me, BZ, even more than Mr. Steele’s becoming RNC chair, & that is all the republicans voting against the bailout bill! God Bless ’em! And God Bless the 11 Dems that voted against it too!
God Bless YOU as well, BZ!
DW: thank you kindly, sir.

What, now we go and find our own “magic Negro”?
This is a very, very sad day for America. The election of Steele proves that the Republican party will not go in the direction they need to for the sake of our country. They can expect to be in the minority for quite some time to come.
Are you a true conservative or just a kool aid drinker? If you are a true conservative then you would listen to what this other true conservative has to say about him.

He’s a RINO. On that we can be clear. This proves that the Republican Party’s move to the Left might be a permanent legacy of the Bush years.
I have some reservations here. While I am happy to see the RNC make this move. It is clearly 100 years too late.
The Republican party was the first of the two (2) parties to have blacks in Congress or other political positions; which was close to 100 years before the Demorats were willing to have them.
Yet, the Republicans should have made this move at least twenty (20) years ago. This move is purely political, just like the Palin decision. Condi Rice and Colin Powell were nice moves, but the Steele move should have happened long before a Black president was elected.
I don’t think this move will get the RNC back to where it needs to be because there is far too much division and they are infected with too many socialist cowards far removed from the heart and mind of America.
Steele may be a good choice but the timing sure looks to me like the repubs are just jumpimg on the Obama minority band wagon.
The best avenue for Mr. Steele is via the economy and the ‘sticker shock’ we are all about to receive when the ‘bailout’ does not work out so well and the Nation goes heavily into great debt and has problems getting anyone to back that debt. Russia no longer has petrodollars, China just received the first pin-prick in its bubble economy, Japan is waking up to the fact that in a generation they will lack this thing known as ‘population’… and Western Liberals want to spend us into being servants of government. Government now is larger than the manufacturing sector of the US in terms of jobs… that, alone, should be enough to point out the problem of a ‘service economy’: during a downturn there is no one who can afford to get things serviced.
What ever did happen to small government Republicans? Fiscally conservative Republicans? Law and Order Republicans (outside of tv where they really aren’t needed)? Whatever did happen to those promises from 1980 that won such a landslide?
Smaller government, less intrusive government, responsible government… getting government out of my life, my home, my wallet and my bedroom would be a great good for all Americans. That means: no handouts, no giveaways, letting folks take care of themselves, enforcing the laws of the land, protecting the country and using a chainsaw on the rotting flesh of governmental extremities. For this is the modern ‘breads & circuses’ – social security, health care, EPA, BATF, and an IRS with its own court system.
Get these insane ‘hot button’ issues out of DC and back to your Statehouse where they belong so *you* have a better chance of being heard and the ‘organizers’ can’t wage a ‘national campaign’ on 50 fronts coherently. I do not like what is coming if that is *not* the message and we get more D-Lite from the R party. That is a prescription for failure as we have seen. Time to kick the big government habit, go cold turkey, suffer the shakes and come out a wiser nation for doing so.
I literally don’t expect that from the Republican Party. The Party can’t even figure out what Lincoln gave the troops to do in 1863… now it is worship of the name, not of the deeds done and trying to emulate them. Of course the Democratic Party is much worse in that direction… that is no excuse for *following them*. Rather an attack dog minority that keeps the ‘majority’ honest rather than this lap dog we see so much of. Teeth, not Bambi Eyes is what is needed. Stop feeling defensive when you are offended and feel offended. An attack dog would be most excellent now… and it can be done with a smiling face.
We will see if Mr. Steele is the cold steel needed to avoid Iron Times.
