Majel Roddenberry Passes Away

Majel Roddenberry, once know as Majel Barrett and star of the first Star Trek pilot where she played “Number One,” died of cancer on Saturday.
Following the pilot, she was cast a Nurse Christine Chapel, assistant to Dr. Leonard McCoy. When the original Star Trek series was canceled, she last was cast as the computer voice of the starship Enterprise in The Next Generation series, as well as next year’s remake.
She married the creator of the Star Trek franchise, Gene Roddenberry, in 1969 following the cancellation of the original series. She became Majel Barrett Roddenberry.

NEW YORK — Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry, an actress who appeared in numerous “Star Trek” TV shows and movies, died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif., her representative said.

At Roddenberry’s side were family friends and her only son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991.

I’ve always been a devotee of Star Trek and its series of spinoffs and films. It is a sad day for Star Trek fans, indeed.
