Word is flittering about that Newt Gingrich or Michael Steele may be interested in RNC (Republic National Committee) Chairman.
Another individual, Jim Nussle (Director of the OMB) plans to run for RNC chair as well.
As far as I am concerned, the RNC needs new blood and it needs it now. Michael Steele would bring that fresh blood but — I’m not convinced he’s the teeth-gnashing, flesh-and-gristle fighter we’d need.
Newt Gingrich would be great — he’s certainly no shrinking violet and he knows his way around a bare knuckles brawl — but I’d have to examine his stand on the environment in much greater detail. Gingrich has said, essentially: “you want me, you got me.”
I wrote letter after letter to the RNC last year (actually, I stuffed their return envelopes with my “form letter”) clearly stating that, until they came around and made President Bush clean up his Conservative act (like that would happen) they weren’t about to receive another penny from me. I was a man of my word.
I’m sure many, many other Conservatives were of a like mind and, hence, the funding for McCain was geometrically exceeded by Obama. No shocker there.
And that’s still true. No money for McCain now, no money for the RNC.
You elect Newt Gingrich or Michael Steele as RNC Chair — you know what? I might write you a check again, boys and girls. “No Names” for the RNC can just Go Home. Unless, of course, you just don’t mind getting your ass handed to you. Again.

I would LOVE to see Gingrich as the head of the RNC!
TUO: might not be impossible, One.

I could see Newt leading the party. He has mellowed a lot over the years and he probably would be great. We need somebody with COMMON SENSE, and he does have that.
I agree about finding out about Newt’s stand on GW. Personally he thinks it is a crock, but he said professionaly he is jumping on the bandwagon because everyone else is. SO, if the tide starts to change he will. Not great, but at least he isn’t a G.W. cultie.
Better Gingrich than whatever lame leadership has been in place lately.
Conservative above all else, though. TRUE conservative. Not this RINO crap that’s been floating in the bowl of Republican Politics lately.
The RNC and the GOP as a whole either make a 180° turn around or the RNC and the GOP will be rendered permanently irrelevant…
Gingrich is an old FIXTURE, I though you guys were all about NEW BLOOD and doing away with the failures of old??
Whatever did happen to the Contract with America Republicans? The frittered away their majority, overspent, created larger government and decided that the lovely land of Incumbistan need them. The only way Republicans got welfare reform was by getting Clinton on board via his triangulation of politics. That got him just enough credo to be ignored on almost everything else he did.
Put someone in who has serious chops on cutting government size, power and its encroachment on the private lives of individuals. Not a ‘reformer’ but someone who will counter-attack.
That ain’t Newt.
I like Mr. Steele and he ran a fun campaign in MD, but is not your traditional conservative. I do like him, he has a good attitude and his policy positions leave me scratching my head. The R party has some good, rising stars out in the States… get someone who *hasn’t* been infected by DC and who is serious about taking the necessary chainsaw to government and with Gaffetastics in the White House and the Dunces in the two houses you just might have the best argument against high taxes and ineffectual and officious government telling *you* what to do.
That *is* what’s coming.
You can’t ‘reform’ that to something nicer. Offer a contrast and a stark contrast, not just Democrat-Lite. Plus start some outreach through blue collar Appalachia and the Rust Belt… McCain fumbled that and it is the way to undercut the D party. And maybe, just maybe, bring some people back to voting… since 51% barely turned out this time that needs to be changed. The people are voting with their feet against Big Government. That is an opportunity, one that McCain wasted.
But in terms of NAMES, who would be a good RNC chair?
BZ
Michael Steele has recently been tossed around, as of today…
But in terms of NAMES, who would be a good RNC chair?
Lazy-Boy comes to mind.
Gingrich could do it and he is right on 95% of the agenda. We need young lions led by an old and proven warrior who knows how the game is played. They set the agenda and the old warrior gets it done.
Bloviating I’m looking to add you to my blog roll if you’re willing to add me in return. Let me know.
You’re right, new blood is definitely needed, and the RNC will need to do a helluva lot of soul-searching if they’re going to come back stronger than ever for the 2012 Presidential election. Here’s hoping they get this right!
I wish Michael Steele would do something of even bigger notice…but I’m for him if this job’s open and it’s all he can do to stay in the public eye. I REALLY like him.
And, BZ, he can be REALLY tough, I think. At least he never takes ANY guff from Alan Colmes when he’s on with him……just keeps hammering. I think he’s smart, articulate and good.
I like Newt but MAN, who needs the media onslaught with all that hackneyed negativity on him again if the RNC does pick him?
The latest news is that Steele is definitely running but that Gingrich will support him instead of running himself. I would be very happy with either one of them.
First of all, no one even knows the name of the guy who is leading the RNC right now and he did a horrible job. The McCain campaign was a mess compared to Bush’s and I think some of that had to do with who was running the RNC at the time.
As someone who volunteers on campaigns, I saw a huge difference between the two and it explains a lot on why McCain lost. Also, I stopped giving to the RNC when McCain became the nominee so they did have less money. I kept waiting for them to send me mail from Sarah Palin and then I would’ve given money but it didn’t come until literally the day before the election. Way too little, too late.
Fred Thompson?
