Did John McCain rock Barack Hussein Obama on his heels last night — as he needed?
No.
In my opinion, McCain limp-wristed the bulk of his shots.
This kind of performance will not somehow magically manage to convince the “undecideds” that may be extant in the nation. And historically, “undecideds” have not changed the complexion of an election as John McCain mistakenly believes.
McCain was afforded any number of opportunities to do some much-needed bloodletting. But either by purposeful design, political ignorance or some misplaced feeling of “restraint” or “bipartisanship” McCain let these opportunities slip through his fingers.
McCain needs to get elemental; he needs to get “medieval” on Obama right now. But I’m of the opinion that he simply doesn’t have it “in him.”
THE TRUTH:
Katy Grimes makes these very important points in her blog, deserving of review here and now:
Who do you think is really responsible for the economy being in the tank?
Think back to the 2006 elections – what happened? Let’s reflect:
George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over two years ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high — 14,000 +
5) American’s were buying new cars,taking cruises,vacations overseas, etc

5) American’s were buying new cars,taking cruises,vacations overseas, etc
But American’s wanted ‘CHANGE.’ So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes–we got ‘CHANGE’ all right.
In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing;
3) Unemployment is up to 6.1% (a 10% + increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices are still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) As I write, the Dow is probing another low – $2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS has EVAPORATED from the stocks, bonds and mutual funds investment portfolios.

YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE — and America certainly received it.
REMEMBER: THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS.
And what has the Congress accomplished in the last two years — besides nothing?
Now the Democratic candidate for president claims he is going to really give us change — along with a Democratic Congress?
JUST HOW MUCH MORE ‘CHANGE’ DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND?
As an aside: anyone ever wonder why it is that John McCain may not spend hours in front of a computer, which allows Barack Hussein Obama to claim that John McCain is “computer-ignorant”? Perhaps this might be the result of his being tortured and his arms broken whilst a Vietnamese POW? And that he can’t hold his arms up for any length of time?
What is it that allows Barack Hussein Obama to make a claim that he is ready to be President of the United States of America? The Commander in Chief of the entire planet’s most powerful military forces (for at least the remainder of the year)? What is it that, clearly, I am failing to understand?

I read the transcript from last night and had to stop about part way through. I was disgusted.
Look, I have no problems with a socialist who actually bothers to understand capitalism. Really! I grew up with them, and they can actually be pretty conversant in the pluses and minuses of capitalism… real socialists, not these ‘revolutionary’ types. The ones who saw the best way to get socialism is to work on capitalism and make sure it goes as far as it can go so as to provide the basis for socialism. Which means showing up for your job, understanding how and why you invest in things, and, generally, supporting capitalism as it has a necessary job to do.
These two bozos don’t understand capitalism.
Worse they don’t understand socialism.
I’ve been insulted by *both* of them as part of their political views. And I take those insults personally.
Even back in the primaries el primo capitalist Mitt Romney didn’t understand the tax structure of MA or the US, and yet utilized the loopholes in *both* to shield his assets. Yet he had clearly stated that he didn’t know why those assets couldn’t be taxed… that from a guy who has made boodles of cash via businesses and investments.
I am not an ‘innocent bystander’ in the economic mess: I am the target of Congress to pay off the bad loans made by their encouragement to those who shouldn’t have sought them or gotten them. I am expected to pay off that mess… me and every other taxpayer in the US. That is not an ‘innocent bystander’ that is someone experiencing a ‘shakedown’: a target.
Don’t try to ‘help’ me: get these goddamned shakedown artists behind bars where they belong. Namely Congresscritters who supported this junk, voted for it and took money from their lobbyists. That would wind up with both these candidates in jail… fine with me. They don’t want ‘government regulation’ they want an extortion racket with a smiley face on it.
Even with my woebegone knowledge of capitalism, finance, banking, health care, insurance, home mortgages… I at least know how to navigate the waters. And I not only see icebergs, but I see evidence of U-boat attacks. And we got swell fellas saying: ‘Lets just sail in front of that big old iceberg. We’ll make it!’
Just like the Titanic did.
Stop the engines and throw anything explosive overboard with a fuze! We can survive a slow ramming of the iceberg, but the junk below the waterline has got to stop.
Excellent post! But to answer your question. “What is it that allows Barack Hussein Obama to make a claim that he is ready to be President of the United States of America?”
He’s black. And that’s what the democratic party is running on. Sad to say, too many ignoramuses will choose him because he is different, not better.
I am still voting for Ron Paul.
AJ: you’re damned straight there’s a TARGET on our taxpaying backs!
NS: you gotta vote for who you gotta vote for. But that’s going to, essentially, equate to a vote for Obama.

I am very unhappy about our choices, the debates speeches and media attention will not change my mind.
McCain is simply the best of two evils, and all we can hope is that McCain pulls out a miracle, wins in Nov and makes WISE appointments in his cabinet, and puts fourth RIGHT MINDED SCOTUS judges..
The bar is set low for McCain if he wins.
IF Obama wins, it is all over. ALL of it, we have took a giant leap into socialism over the economy, IF Hussein gets in we complete the move. We get Government involved in EVERYTHING at that point.
I say be prepared for ACORN type policies to be more at the forefront, if you are working be prepared to pay for those who wont.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s a choice between a head cold (McCain) and Ebola (Obama). One is a annoyance that slows you down and the other is a death sentence.
Shop: you’ve hit it. I’ll still go the (gulp) McCain/Palin route for my absentee ballot.

Oh, and I don’t think either person won the debates last night. Obama looked cool and collected but he wasn’t saying anything I haven’t heard before and neither was McCain.
I wonder what will happen if there is a tie in the electoral college come Nov 4th? Hmmm
Great post, well thought out analysis, thanks BZ!
BV, you made many good points in your post. It’s to bad that most people blame or credit the President in office at the time for everything. As you rightly point out, the Congress spends the money. The Congress makes the laws. People forget that. Bush did it. McCain = 4 more years of Bush. Hogwash on both counts.
