An overall view of Monterey Bay, Fornicalia — which shows the very deep canyon just a few miles offshore to the west. Click to expand the view, and you will see the city of Santa Cruz to the north, and Monterey to the south.
That’s it. I’ve temporarily had enough.
It’s time for my wife and I to leave work and our stress behind.
I made reservations for five nights at one of the premier hotels in Monterey, Fornicalia. This is a late birthday present/anniversary for my wife. We are celebrating five years. Five years, what’s that? A paperclip?
We’ll be in a 540-square foot suite with a direct top-floor view of Monterey Bay, at the height of whale-watching season.
Time for a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Company, and a host of other wonderful places on the ocean, to include J&S Surplus in Moss Landing — a wonderful store full of military memorabilia, paintball equipment, surplus, clothing, books, knives and collectibles!
Boys and girls, if it’s Friday, we’re driving there right now.
Posting will not stop. I hope to have, however, some updated photographs on our tours and travels.
Excelsior!

The motel where we’ll be staying. It is situated directly on the bay, just north of Breakwater Cove, the US Coast Guard station and Fisherman’s Shoreline Park, right on Cannery Row.
Make sure you go up to the Asilomar for sunset. Hopefully you get a green flash.
Asilomar is a nice place. We visit there and Pacific Grove as well. Some very nice antique stores in Pacific Grove, along with some very quaint and accessible tide pools by the road!
Looking for whales and otters.

If the Highlands is still open (South of Carmel) strongly recommend that for Sunday Brunch!!! Enjoy the break!
We spent a weekend up there about 10 years ago. Had a golf tournament at the Bayonette/Blackhorse Golf Courses. It was an awesome time from what I remember of it.. We did get to spend Friday/Sat nights on Cannery row. At least my buddies told me that’s what we did… I got some pictures somewhere and I a mug shot photo.. LOL
Have a blast.
One of the nice things about having my infantry training at Fort Ord was, when I had a pass and was able to go to Monterey. I really enjoyed that city! There was SO much to do there!
As a musician I loved the fact that music was everywhere. Apart from a couple of trips to the Filmore West, what happen in Monterey was at the top of the list!
NFO: still open!
Robert: almost sounds like a “lost” couple of days!
Scotty: Fillmore West. My God, does that bring up memories, along with the Cow Palace. Humble Pie, Mountain, Yes, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, CCR, Jefferson Airplane and even, though I didn’t like them much, the Grateful Dead.

I hope you have a wonderful time, my friend.

We like-minded cons will need to band together for survival very soon, I fear.
PG&E, Sha Na Na, when it was a cult band. Quicksilver, Buddy Miles and the Electric Flag, Al Cooper, Mike Bloomfield. Just to name a few!
Those were the days, Eh? And a cult of some kind dancing on every street corner! It was a culture shock for this humble country boy from upstate New York!!
∞ ≠ ø: are you trying to say something about the Chevy Volt. . . ?

You are in one of my mother’s favorite places. I have never been to CA. I am a little concerned though about “Dave”. Are you sure “Dave” is manly? Maybe you should have picked a name like Jordon, Kyle, Caroll, Shirley. If “Dave” is manly, it’s a good thing that you didn’t name it Sue! Mother is enjoying the pictures. Keep them coming. She is reminiscing about her days living in CA, back in the 80’s.
Bubbles, you have a good point. Maybe Dave is Davette.
More pix coming. Check out the next post.

Aha! Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Company is still there!
And, of course, the aquarium. I’ve visited several aquariums and enjoyed the one in Monterey the best of any!
