Questions for Bloggers & Readers:

I have two questions for those who blog and who read blogs:

1. When you access a blogsite, are you looking for short and concise posts, no more than one or two paragraphs, or do you seek more in-depth information in a post?

2. Do you find yourself posting and accessing blogs primarily during the week only, or do you travel to other blogs on the weekend as well — in other words, are you more active and expect more activity during the week only?

  1. I prefer short as well, and try to keep it short myself. During the week I’m extremely busy and only visit a few a night, if I have time. Most of my cruising is done on the weekends….. sometimes.. 🙁

  2. I prefer somewhat short posts, with a few exceptions. Some of my favorites are very skilled writers, and I will read longer posts…

I spend more time bloggin/reading blogs during the week, but will also post at least once on weekends.

  3. Concise, accurate and to the point, that’s why it’s called blogging and we’re called bloggers and not novelists…

One of my favorite bloggers is also the hardest person to read i have ever seen, he goes on and on and on and…

    And yeah, there’s a point but damn…

If you can’t get it across in 3 or 4 paragraphs from a news article and 4 or 5 paragraphs of commentary, you’re not putting the necessary amount of energy into the post, hell, if ya do it right, you can piss off the entire ‘B.I.G.’ crowd just by saying howdy…

  4. I prefer the shorter ones, but if it needs to be longer to include info its ok. The ones I dislike are the ones that you need to refill the coffee cup to read, those usually get bypassed unless they are truely enlightening. Im mostly a weekday reader I am on the computer all day during the week and try to stay away from it on my time.

  5. Hi, BZ! I’m not back yet, just checking a few blogs.

I prefer posts that aren’t too long myself, and try to keep mine of a reasonable length. I think if a post is too long most readers will only scan the content and are apt to miss a lot of it.

BZ: It depends on my mood. I like your posts because they are readable and vary in length. I go to other blogs at night or on the weekends when I have more time. I visit one blog every day to keep up with physics links. But politically oriented blogs are frequented more like every other night or so.

  7. Thanks Mahndisa! I think the overall notion I’ve acquired is that many appreciate shorter posts. I think that will translate, for me, on my attempt to shorten some posts and expand on those that Light Me Up.

  8. I read all over and have the ‘short attention span theater’ problem, mentally. My brain is still mending and working hard to become semi-functional again… mostly if it catches my eye or the attention of a non-conscious portion of my mind, I will linger. Long pieces take awhile, sometimes a few days, but if it is important my mind will come back to it…

I depend a lot on that part that does skim reading as I view… so I am all over the board on things. But a well made point that needs building is given time to be built so I can understand it. A wrong premise or assumption I think is invalid will then get skim read to conclusions to re-check validity.

In the state I am in, it is very, very hard to say. Meaningful posts are important… brevity is nice if something can be brief. I cannot claim to vouch for these standards for my own writing, but then I am writing to understand my thoughts. Which always go in strange directions.
