This is why, amongst other things, no Republican should endorse John McCain for president.
First: McCain officially announced his candidacy on the David Letterman show.
However, on this show McCain said:
Americans are very frustrated, and they have every right to be,” McCain said Wednesday on CBS’ “Late Show With David Letterman.” “We’ve wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives.”
So: being in Iraq has wasted lives. I tend to disagree. I do not agree with many of the ways and means employed by our Commander In Chief; in truth I vehemently disagree with the manner in which he has waged this war and a number of the strategies involved. That is another issue entirely. But to state that those military lives have meant nothing is beyond egregious.
This confirms that (and though I must acknowledge McCain’s service to his country and his sacrifices made as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam conflict) McCain is not a stable individual or influence and is a distraction on the order of Ross Perot.
Even the Democratic National Committee called McCain on his comments:
Senator McCain should apologize immediately for his callous comments,” said Karen Finney, a DNC spokeswoman. “How is it that John McCain now believes American lives are being wasted, yet he so stubbornly supports the president’s plan to escalate the war in Iraq and put more American lives in harms way?”
They have a point. An excellent point.
Once again proving that, in terms of this man, McCain considers that it’s all about McCain and no one else. His Gang of 14: wrong. His McCain-Feingold legislation: wrong.
As far as I’m concerned John McCain is so far out as to be beyond Pluto. Every GOP member, take heed and remember: this military veteran honors not the sacrifices of our valiant military personnel.

You are back with a vengeance eh Mr. BZ! I agree with you here. I used to think Mr. McCain was a decent guy; willing to work with opposites such that the American people could benefit. NOW I see that he is straight up crazzzzzy!!!! I don’t care if he is pissed at our President or NOT. Soldiers are VALUABLE and their lives lost mean something! How dare he! It is almost like he forgot from whence he’s come!
You ROCK BZ. As a military mom, with two sons in the military (state side at the moment but both just back from the sandbox) and letter writer to 20 other soldiers still overseas, I am FURIOUS at McCains comments. How DARE he say such garbage?!?! I didn’t like him in 2000, and I like him less and less the more I see of him. He can count on NOT getting my vote for city dog catcher, let alone President of the greatest nation on earth! Great post, and hopefully more GOP folks will pay attention to what he says…he’ll hang himself without any help. G-d Bless.
Mahndisa: You an incredibly spot on: we can never, NEVER abandon those who FIGHT for our country. This cannot and should not happen, EVER.
Spitfire: and this from a man who was shot down in Vietnam and spent time at the Hanoi Hilton. He evidently did NOT feel the lessons learned by such Vietnam heroes as Dave Carey (please check out davecarey.com) or Charlie Plumb (charlieplumb.com), both of whom are EXCEPTIONAL motivational speakers who learned VOLUMES by their imprisonment in Vietnam.
McCain cannot continue on this track for obvious reasons. I believe he has already managed to place ragged holes in his Presidential Boat oh so very early in his campaign.
I wish to personally thank you for the sacrifices made for our nation by your sons and may God find them whole, secure and healthy in any tour of duty they encounter.

First, McCain is not a Republican, he is a Democrat in sheep’s clothing.
Second, the DemocratICK party is being very hypocritical here; they are the ones who are claiming that the lives lost in Iraq are being wasted – McCain is merely talking his “party” line.
Third, Make a Difference – Vote for Common Sense – Write In Cary Cartter for President in 2008!
Cary, not a bad idea. I’d like to read your platform.

You know how I feel about McCain. Over my dead body is he getting the Republican nomination. And yes not only does he announce his candidacy on Letterman but he snubbed all the conservatives at the CPAC conference.
Are we trying to win the Republican nomination or the Drive By Media nomination?????
