Your Dinner Guest

It’s 6 pm.

You’ve invited one person from history to attend your dinner.

You have two hours to speak with this person and understand their point of view.

It could be anyone — who would this be? And tell me why.

I wanted to converse with General George Smith Patton.

  1. Lee Harvey Oswald…

I don’t believe he did it and I would love to question him on it…

I doubt 2 hours would be enough but hey, it would be a challenge, and being a highly skilled investigator…… En Vino Veritas

  2. Robert E. Lee…He is undeniably the most beloved military commander in history. He hated slavery, but was forever loyal to his family and his home. Anyone like that is someone I want to sit down and have a conversation with.

  3. George H.W. Bush’s wife, Barbara… I want to ask her how she raised such awesome men, and get advice from her. There is a lot to be said about a woman who had a husband as president, and two very successful sons. I am not sure of the history of the rest of her children.. I have heard of a woman who has raised 12 children and all of them were in high level places in the government, or held high level jobs and were very successful..

  4. Mark Twain. Why? Because its Mark Twain!

    Wait, no…George Washington. Thats who.

No, no, no…Adam. THE Adam. That would be the most interesting conversation right there. I’d have to tell him that there is more artwork of him mostly naked than not. I wonder if he’d blush at that.

I’d have to ask if it was easy to name all those animals. If dogs were always domesticated.

I’d have to ask what Eve looked like. I’d ask what that fruit tasted like. Was their relationship ever the same after they got booted out of the garden? Is that when they discovered sex? (Angry make up sex? maybe?)

Was having that 50th baby as wonderful as the first?

And finally, did God ever talk to him again?

  5. Jefferson Davis, I’d have to have a party because I’d like him to bring friends. Just curious how we let all that slip away 🙂

    Here from Texas Connection

  6. Count Flavius Belisarius… The man defined honor, dedication, and supremecy of military thought, of which we can still learn much. His biographer spends almost as much time on himself as his subject… and the fragments we get to see suggest someone far greater. Of course I would need a translator…

If I was limited to someone who knew or knows english and can coverse…difficult… Captain Gars had some knowledge of English, if just a smattering, enough to curse fluently, at least…. but if not…

Richard Feynman would be fascinating to talk to on just about any subject from high energy physics to computer science to nanotechnology to painting to rhythmic use of the bongos to curious stamps from foreign lands… engaging on any of those topics (and many more) and the keenest mind of the last century, Einstein included…

Always difficult, these sorts of questions… but the first one has stayed put for some years…

  7. Harry S. Truman. I pick him because he is a Democrat that I respect. There’s not many Democrats that warrant respect today.

I would like to know how difficult it must have been to order the first Atomic bomb to be dropped.

I also think he would give me honest answers.

  8. My top 3…

    FDR
    George Washington
    Abraham Lincoln

Wouldn’t it be great if you could have all 3 together with you at the same time? What a great conversation you could have!

  9. WOW! These are some fabulous historical figures — many I would never have guessed as subjects. THANKS for your comments and writings!

Welcome aboard to Malinda777 and nightcrawler! Hope you visit again!

Hey Blo Zep: Good post. I would invite my distant Patriarchal ancestor Thomas Rigmaiden and his slave Feloneez. I would also like to meet Madame Curie. Out of those three, I don’t know which I would choose first. Although Madame Curie being the first female NObel physicist and then chemist really is exciting. And Feynman would have also been cool to meet…Too many choices I say!
