DEM: Keeping You Blind

Did you read or hear of this from the American DEM, the Defeatist, Elitist Media?

1. Widespread French Riots (Again):

There have been three continuous days of rioting in France following Sunday’s incident in Paris, where a police vehicle accidently struck and killed two teenaged Muslims on a motorbike were killed in a crash with a police patrol car. Over 100 police officers have been injured, one lost an eye, many were hit with buckshot.

Paris Suburb Riots Called A Lot Worse Than 2005“:

In one sense, the unrest seems to be more menacing than during the early days of the three weeks of rioting in 2005. Then, the youth seemed disorganized, their destruction largely caused by rock-throwing and arson and aimed at the closest and easiest targets, like cars. This time, hunting shotguns, as well as gasoline bombs and rocks, have been turned on the police.

“From what our colleagues on the scene tell us, this is a situation that is a lot worse than what we saw in 2005,” Patrice Ribeiro, a police officer and senior union official, told RTL radio Tuesday. He added, “A line was crossed last night, that is to say, they used weapons, they used weapons and fired on the police. This is a real guerrilla war.”

But what NO ONE will write: these “disaffected youths” are:

  • MUSLIMS
  • WHO LIVE IN ENCLAVES
  • WHO REFUSE TO ASSIMILATE
  • WHO DEMAND FRENCH ENTITLEMENTS
  • WHO HAVE BEEN CATERED-TO BY THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT

Witness:

We’ve been talking about a Marshall Plan for the suburbs since the early 1990s,” said Adil Jazouli, a sociologist who focuses on the suburbs. “We don’t need poetry. We don’t need reflection. We need money.”

No CHANGE on the part of the Muslims; no WORK on the part of the Muslims; no INSISTENCE that they assimilate into the culture. NO. All they need is MONEY. Throw money at ANYTHING and that makes everything better. That’s all the work you need do, naturally. That’s certainly worked for the public education system in DC, has it not?

Sarkozy has the right idea, also:

In his six months as president, he (Sarkozy) largely has focused on injecting new life into France’s flaccid economy through job creation and lowering taxes and consumer prices. His most notable initiative in dealing with youth crime has been punitive: the passage of a law last July that required a minimum sentence for repeat offenders and in many cases allowed minors between 16 and 18 years of age to be tried and sentenced as adults.

2. Chinese Sub Surfaces Amidst US Navy Carrier Group:

From the UK Daily Mail:

American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk – a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board.

By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier. According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy. The Americans had no idea China’s fast-growing submarine fleet had reached such a level of sophistication, or that it posed such a threat.

And here’s why: the US Navy commanders as well as its CNO (Chief of Naval Operations) Admiral Mike Mullen, have emphasized the littoral portion of its fleet to the detriment of its blue water capability. And political correctness has de-emphasized the threat that China and other countries pose to the United States.

Surprised that we were surprised? Unfortunately, I am not.

  1. 1. “Muslim” uprising? Islamicist agitation is what it is. Agitation at the slightest pretext. Islamicist agitation, I believe, had its essence stated in the form of a question by the late Yassir Arafat who was heard to frequently ask, “Where is my money?” Remember the Egyptian, Arafat? Islamicist agitation, mask removed, is crime. Al-Qaeda (Islamicists) kidnaps for ramsom, traffics narcotics, murders the innocent among them many Muslims. Sound like any other Islamicist groups? Hizzbollah? Hamas? al-Fatah? Look up “caliphate” and check for similarities.

    2. Throw open the hatch on that Chinese attack sub and you may or may not find any icky whale offending radio, radar or sonar. Nor will there be present smart weapons the likes of which designs flew out the Clinton administered Defense Department windows. They’re all just out for a little cruise. Likely also an “enlightended, diverse and tolerant” crew will be happily hot bunked and intimately bonded since more boys make it into this life than girls in the family friendly People’s Republic of China.

  2. I am guessing that there will be MANY Navy brass guys that have thier asses in the proverbial sling, heads WILL roll over this, bet on it, this was an Intel failure of Biblical proportions…

And it was a diesel Sub, they are NOT quiet, all have a distinct ‘signature’, or DID…

Hows that for a response from a FAKE VET??

  3. We better pull our heads out of our asses, China is up to absolutely no good and have been.

This is freaking crazy, talk about being complacent. Some heads should roll over this. They are taunting us with a very deadly game of “watcha gonna do about it?”

Damn, they aren’t happy over the patriot missile sales to Taiwan either, and they keep showing their displeasure.

  4. Etoian: welcome aboard — I suspect you’re from the New Hampshire Schrdlus, aren’t you? Or the Venus Schrdlus —

    1. WELL taken, sir!
    2. Again excellent point — and another point not made and certainly not in print during the ramp-up of nuclear subs by the American and other large nation military systems: very few persons realize that diesel subs can be essentially QUIETER than nukes whilst submerged.

Fred: but not only intel — when a carrier strike group (CSG) moves, it moves with a destroyer squadron, Aegis guided missile cruisers, guided missile destroyers, an oiler and/or supply ship, as well as (most importantly for this discussion!) a few attack subs of the Los Angeles class or even perhaps the newest attack sub, the USS Seawolf. THAT’S the failure that bothers me! How’d that sub bypass OUR attack subs??

Our navy already has a poor track record regarding the truth: the sinking of the submarine USS Scorpion in May of 1968 was due to a TORPEDO HIT by a Soviet submarine, says Ed Offley in his book “Scorpion Down.”

  5. “Would you happen to have any Grey Poupon?” I doubt the Chinese asked. China is in our face in many ways, but is it not a sign of surrender when you bring your submarine to the surface among “hostile” vessels?

They “slipped through” naval defenses it is said. Has there been a betrayal of U.S. secrets the gravity of Jonathan Pollard, Aldrich Ames or Robert J. Hansen?

Will heads roll when the Song class sub gets back home? Will there be a face saving announcement of secret cooperation with a Most Favored Nation trading partner?

And thank you BV, the 916 Schrdlus.

  6. BZ,
There is a lot going on with China and Russia that we don’t know about and apparently even our own intel isn’t aware of.

I think China is planning something and I do think that was a test.

  7. The US Navy has a poor ASW capability, at best. We retired most of the active sub-hunting ships in the 1970’s and replaced them with helicopter based systems integrating with submarines and surface vessels. That three-legged system of subs, surface and rotary wing craft means you must have all three and train properly for ASW.

Last year Vice Adm. (ret) Konetzi reported on the draw down of subs from that mission, leaving gaps in the system. One of the prime ways of doing this is via tracking from source and putting continuous monitoring via rotary wing and surface ships when subs transit littoral waters. Unfortunately the US does not have the ships or surveillance capability of doing this for China, just as we didn’t have it for the USSR. Thus the deep-sea system must be the one used to try and find and determine if there is a threat present. The ASW Command was formed to begin to address the problems of this ‘system of systems’ approach, as it requires continued and robust funding of multiple systems (air fixed and rotor, sub, surface) that must interoperate to be effective. Here is the problem as described by CTF-12, looking to test new technologies in 2003:

‘According to Capt. Robert Ford, chief of staff, CTF-12, the primary mission for CTF-12 is to not only to provide intelligence and enhanced situational awareness for U.S. Navy assets before entering an area for contingencies, but also to make sure the same assets are ready for anything they may encounter.

“A big part of what we do at CTF-12 is to help train the forces to deal with this threat. We train our carrier strike groups. As a standing order, they will do a big anti-submarine exercise with CTF-12 in Hawaiian waters. What we try to do is approximate the type of scenario that they might face, if they had to sail into harm’s way in a hostile situation facing a number of potential adversary submarines in the Pacific,” said Ford.

A new type of highly capable, diesel-powered submarine, well recognized by ASW professionals for its stealth and potency, has taken center stage as the premier potential adversary beneath the surface of the world’s oceans.

“Diesel submarines pose a real problem. It’s a formidable threat when you think of what a diesel powered submarine can do. They’re very quiet when running on batteries, and they can remain submerged for extended periods of time, from days to weeks. With the advent of air independent propulsion, the need to come up and recharge their batteries is drastically reduced,” Ford added.

In addition to their ability to remain quiet and nearly undetectable, according to Ford, they can also pack a serious punch. “It’s a very capable platform. Some are outfitted so they can bottom themselves and remain motionless for extended periods of time. They have mining capability; some of them have cruise missiles. They are a very difficult threat, something we haven’t faced,” said Ford.

In order to effectively engage a potential threat, training in detection, launching countermeasures or weapons, and evasion are fundamental capabilities required by U.S. Navy assets. The only way to effectively train as if it were the real thing is to use the very platform that may pose such a threat to U.S. Navy and allied navy forces.’

The diesel/electric (now also hybrid subs) have remained the most effective sub-surface combatant design since it was first invented prior to WWI. Additionally, any nuclear sub that has large battery capacity will scale back energy production on-board via the reactor to quiet it down and run on batteries to try and gain similar stealthy advantages. Even with that there were numerous incidents through the 1970’s to 1990’s of Soviet nuclear hunter/killer subs surfacing at or near US CVN battle groups. This is not a technology based solution, entirely, as the UK proved during the Falklands War when they were harassed by the huge sub fleet of Argentina… it had a grand total of ONE submarine which the entire battle group could not find even as it stalked them. Mind you they were using 1970’s technology to find a 1940’s vintage submarine… newer hybrid and re-breather systems push the use of diesel power further underwater without the need for snorkels, and such, but the Argentine sub didn’t have those.

Before you decry the threat of Chinese subs, realize that subs as a class are something the US has never properly addressed along with anti-mine systems. Even after the vaunted era of Ronald Reagan and all the way to the current President, the mainstay of the minesweeper force was a total of 6 wooden vessels built in the 1930’s.

The draw down of capability across the USN is directly attributable to Congressional Republicans not pushing for nor investing in a proper scaled and sized fleet to meet modern combat conditions. The ‘peace dividen’ was signed onto with gusto by the R party, even when trumpeted by President Clinton, and the current office holder has done squat to re-invest in force protection capability even *with* a Republican led congress. Those few programs that *were* approved had timelines stretching to 2010 and beyond… and some of them, like the land-based Crusader artillery were being out done by high-tech systems tested in Germany and elsewhere.

I do not blame the USN in this nor see China as a threat as we are not even measuring up to the UK circa the 1980’s and *they* couldn’t find a single d/e sub stalking them. And they deployed every ASW asset they had to *find it*. Damn thing popped up after the war, the Captain saluted and then they went under again… to disappear from SONAR and all observation yet again, even when they *knew* where it had been.

When you hear stories coming from China of folks soaking cardboard to make ‘dumplings’ to sell, you really do wonder just how long they will last. Like the USSR they have a few high-tech areas that they showcase… what you don’t see is the absolute third world nature of the country under that. Are they a threat? Yup. So is a suicide truck bomber in a crowded marketplace: he won’t gain anything, but in using his weapon he will cause lots of damage. They might be able to take down the Magic Kingdom of Mr. Kim, but it is that same regime that stopped sanctions against it by threatening to release millions of starving folks into China. China backed down. That is a threat to them, yet few wonder *why*….

  8. That, AJ, is why China must continuously STEAL or dupe or reverse-engineer technology extant. And it will GET technology from ANY place it can. The United States STILL does not have its 500 ship navy because pols (on BOTH sides) believe it is pointless. Well, it’s pointless until you have something like this occur. This is a vision of our future and incidents like this will only become more frequent unless we acquire the capability to combat these threats.

  9. Let’s see… China come out today saying they are going to start shooting all GPS satellites out of the sky..they have poisoned our pets, our kids, sold us inferior tires, bad toothpaste, questionable electronics.

And the Clintons love them. And Hillary is running for president.

    Hmmmmm.

As for muzzies rioting in the streets….what’s new, they do it like everyday.
