During Wednesday’s (Nov 17) Cable and Broadcast subcommittee hearing, Demorat West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller said, in part:
There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’ It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future.”
How sad that free broadcast airwaves cause Mr Rockefeller (please call me ‘Senator’ Rockefeller, I’ve worked so hard to achieve that title) some difficulty in his “ability to do our work here in Congress.” Boo-damned-hoo, Mr Rockefeller; we feel so blazingly bad for you.
How sad, how reprehensible, how execrable that Mr Rockefeller and his fellow advantagists and exceptionalists should ever be challenged or, worse yet, disbelieved!
Heinous! Unacceptable! Disagreement = improper! We must stop it, stop it now. We’ve got to protect our phony-baloney jobs! Give the governor a ha-rumph!
As By Ryan G. Murphy, RTDNA Digital Media Editor wrote on November 18th:
As I’m reading this, Rockefeller is saying that the United States electorate will be better informed if we ELIMINATE two major media voices – that getting rid of them would essentially be addition by subtraction.Put your own politics on FOX and MSNBC aside for a second and let’s just agree that they can both sometimes present potentially polarizing views. What Rockefeller is suggesting with his statement is that the views presented on FOX and MSNBC have no place in the news consumers’ world and, because they are not “quality news,” the government should intervene. Simply put, that’s absolute censorship and undermines having a diverse flow of information in the market. It also destroys market-based competition among the networks. This is America, right?Rockefeller failed to point out that the FCC does not have the authority to regulate either FOX or MSNBC. The channels are on cable – not broadcast airwaves. It’s frustrating to see that he would even THINK to have the government step in because of content.
So, as per normal, leave it to the Demorats to be the ones who would wish to silence your First Amendment rights.
How typical.

If you believe for a minute that Rockfuker there wants MSNBC shuts down I got a bridge in Frisco to sell ya.
He threw in MSNBC to say that Fox is like them. Fox NEWS is very balanced compared to the ENTIRE MSM entity. Hell, even their opinion shows are more Fair and Balanced than MSNBC’s. Juan Williams for example offered the differing opinion on O’Riley. Hannity always has Beckel on. Beck is the only one that doesn’t really have a progressive counter on his show, not that he doesn’t invite them, they wont come on.
The real issue for Rockfukr is the message. His ideology is losing badly. The more light is shown upon it, the worse his side looks. The more people that hear Limbaugh and see the news through unbiased eyes, the worse his progressive ideals appear. It’s facts that he has a problem with.
Maybe it is genetic. He wants government intervention. His ancestor had government intervention, the Colorado Militia shooting striking miners and their families. Another fine reason for keeping the Second Amendment. OK, sorry, my sarcasm overtakes me.
Correct me if I’m wrong…
But isn’t FoxNews a cable network and hence, out of the FCC’s control?
cjh
Bush: true. There is a reason Fox is mentioned FIRST, eh?
WSF: those are excellent points.
cj: yes, both Fox and MSLSD are technically exempt. They are not disseminated over the “airwaves.”

I wonder?? Did Jay Rocksforbrains vote to keep on funding NPR??
“leave it to the Demorats to be the ones who would wish to silence your First Amendment rights.”
Really? You say this on the very week where the GOP brought up for a vote to defund the measly 2% NPR gets from the government?
Yeah, FoxPac is ‘balanced,’ LOL!
The first rule is silence the opposition… I’m just surprised he was that open about it!
Just another inbred rich asshole with no brains.
Wait, I thought the GOP was the party of Rich Overbearing White Elitists. Oh wait, you mean that’s not true. . . ?

Bushwacks actually said: “The more people that hear Limbaugh and see the news through unbiased eyes,”
LOLOLOLOLOLOLLLL!!!!!!!!
“to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government”
Yeah, that’s the ticket. People should learn to trust their government more, instead of listening to these rabble-rousing troublemakers telling them things like the truth.
Pagan Temple: bingo. That’s my point with Mr Jay.

Poor Rocky, just unable to work without those pesky reporters that report on things Congress is doing… like signing off on 2,000 page bills that no one has time to read. Yes, I’m sure trying to get an authoritarian regime in would be so much simpler without people reporting on it.
Worked for Pol Pot! Just a mere 25 million dead, but he got the reporters, editors and writers first. At the end he was killing anyone who looked smart, wore glasses or he just didn’t like.
And since we are in bad budget times and NPR gets so little (they keep telling us and then beg for more cash), then it shouldn’t miss the money, and the government can economize. Soros is more than willing to kick in some cash, I’m sure… and NPR is more than willing to become a sock puppet for him.
“I’m just surprised he was that open about it!”
That’s just it, NFO, the Left has been telling us exactly who they are these past few years. We just haven’t been listening. Either that, or we’ve allowed our surprise (‘Did he just say what I thought he said?’) at what we’ve heard to knock us off our game. NO MORE! We’re back on our game & it’s time to play.
