Gingrich: A Reminder of How We Got Here

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich is absolutely correct: “for twenty-five years we’ve lived a lie.” In terms of housing, our jobs, our finances, our possessions, we wanted what we wanted when we wanted it.

It takes two to tango. Once many Americans discovered they could acquire their own piece of the McMansion Pie, they stepped up and took advantage of same, frequently re-financing in order to acquire the new pool, the new boat, the new RV, the new vacation home. Both ends of the equation got greedy.

Mr Gingrich is also correct when he says:

The entirely economic problem we have right now is a cultural problem. We don’t want to reward saving and investing, we don’t want to reward working, we don’t want to encourage being prudent, we don’t want to want to tell the truth about your finances, we don’t want to make you a responsible adult — and you think you can run a country this way?”

Gingrich is obviously an historian, so please note the most important words extant:

This is precisely what Madison and Jefferson wrote in The Federalist Papers: that any time the weakest of the three branches [Legislative, Executive, Judicial. –BZ] takes on the two elected branches, if the two elected branches are serious, they will in fact guarantee the defeat of the Judicial Branch.”

PRECISELY.

  1. Newt IS the smartest man in the room, I don’t care who else is in the room… I like a lot about Newt, but past baggage being what it is, I can’t see him as POTUS, but if I was POTUS I would want him on my Cabinet…

  2. Newt’s in it for Newt but he’s got a great memory (I differentiate that with intelligence sometimes) and he sure is right in those quotes you posted and in his speeches lately……still, he’s a panderer and I worry.
No to POTUS but YES to SEC of Def OR State……..absolutely.

  3. TF: acknowledged. Cabinet material, definitely.

WSF: in the 90s as Speaker. Don’t know if he helped pass the housing acts.

    Thanks Mal.

Z, correct about the memory and his knowledge of history.

  4. Gentlemen we are in a whole world of shit. While I appreciate the value of all the conservative minded candidates I can not see clearly that any of the other candidates have the skill set or the balls that Gingrich does. The next president will need to move with God’s speed to begin righting this ship with quick clear legislation and executive orders to dismantle what truly is the work of a fascist regime.

I cannot count the number of blogs, op-ed columns, pundits, etc. referring to Newt’s baggage.
We sound like a bunch of liberals with no certainties or truths to draw on. Air it then damn it. And be quick about it.

I believe I’ve commented here before that we are choosing weapons and not friends. Grab your Thompsons and your Colts. I choose the Browning. It’s heavy, a whole lotta baggage. But when it hits the fan are you going to keep squeezing on your Colts and Tommy guns, or are you gonna help me set this bitch up?

    Yes this comment is rhetoric.
    Vet him. That’s not.

  5. Newt Gingrich is a conundrum.
    AKA:
“A logical postulation that evades resolution, an intricate and difficult problem”.
    He is not a condom.
He is smart. He was a great Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives back in 1994, during the Bill Clinton presidency.
He was a “leftover” from the George H.W.Bush presidency 1988-1992.
He probably would make a great President himself.
I just have a hard time pulling the lever for him at this time.
If he ends up as the only one “still standing” after the debates, then I will vote for him.
    It’s still early, isn’t it??

I am still currently a Rick Perry supporter, but am concerned that he will not build the 2000 mile fence between the USA and Mexico.
I am a “fervent believer” that this impenetrable fence will work if built to the specs like our prison fences that I have knowledge of.
3 roll concertina, mines, electrified, kill zone, etc.
There is one not far away from here in Seagoville, TX.
    It is a Federal lock-up.
What a way to promote jobs. Build this fence, the 1930’s CCC way!

    I want Obaka GONE!
That is my first un-dying priorty!
