Various organizations (as well as black Moonbat Cynthia “
Unsinkable Cindy Brown” McKinney) have lobbied heavily
against Israel having the present ability to defend itself despite two constant years of Hamas launching rockets and lobbing mortar rounds from the Gaza Strip into Israel proper. It is estimated that roughly 10,000 to 11,000 rockets and rounds have hit Israel in that time, equating to 12 to 13 strikes
per day.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Israel rejected international pressure to suspend its air offensive against Palestinian militants whose rocket barrages are striking close to the Israeli heartland, sending warplanes Wednesday to demolish smuggling tunnels that are the lifeline of Gaza’s Islamic Hamas rulers.
Major media coverage of Israel having the temerity to actually defend itself revolves around so-called “Israeli aggression” in concert with the “poor Palestinian people.”
I should like to remind everyone, however, of this one very important and salient fact regarding the “poor Palestinian people” within the confines of Gaza: Hamas was elected, democratically, by “the people” in this area. They actively selected Hamas as the governance of choice therefore, of course, endorsing the utilization, by Hamas, of rockets and mortars against the people of Israel. Therefore, the choice was made and the options are simple:
1. Stop the rocket and mortar attacks against Israel or
2. Expect that Israel will continue to kill Hamas terrorists with resulting collateral civilian deaths
I should also like to remind everyone tending to “bleed” for the “Palestinians” that at no time has any other Middle Eastern or sympathetic state or nation offered to provide land, to host or embrace, arms outstretched, their fellow Arabian brethren and sistren.
And that brings me to the second major point:
Whilst considering this situation I wondered, in reverse, what the reaction of the United States would be if, for example, Mexico began to lob similar rockets and mortars from
Agua Prieta into the community of Bisbee, Arizona, resulting in deaths on US soil? My guess would be that America would not wait two years to send either an air strike against the town or troops on the ground. My guess is that the US would turn Agua Prieta to rubble.
Israel — the only country in the world not permitted to defend its own civilian population against attack.
Not without the usual, predictable international outcry anyway. If, for the last six months the south coast of England had been daily bombarded with rockets fired by a terrorist outfit in control of, say, Germany ? if people in the region had been forced daily to flee to bomb shelters ? if men, women and children were being killed on a regular basis … you’d imagine it would have made widespread global headlines. That there would be considerable sympathy for the civilians involved.
And if British forces were to retaliate against the terror group by launching air strikes against its bases — not primarily as a “revenge” operation but in a direct attempt to neuter those rocket attacks. . .
Would there be quite the same backlash in the British media against this as there has been this week against the Israeli response?
What else were the Israelis expected to do in this situation? Sit back and take it? And hope that the plight of its civilians might galvanise the rest of the world into putting pressure on the terrorist Hamas?
Imagine: a female columnist who has more balls, by herself, than all in the UK government. God bless her.
On the other hand, upon more reflection, would the US truly have the courage to mount a defensive attack? With either Bush or the president-elect in office?
I should like to think so. I remain not entirely convinced.
How sad is that?
Happy New Year.

Nice posting, BZ!
Israel’s standing firm while the world community sinks to moral equivalence in denouncing the Jewish state’s right and responsiblity of self-defense and the protection of sovereignty.
Have a great New Year’s!
Here’s a feather to tickle yourself with BZ. Palestinians are in actuality, Syrians. Were I in charge of Israel, I’d just evict the goat herding asses back accross the border, after a suitably short period of time after demanding the eviction of all terrorist organizations and supporters.
Then anyone that wanted to try the whole missile lobbing/suicide bombing/ mortar shelling trick would become extinct. Not just the launcher, the whole village, neighborhood, whatever. The people, as you pointed out, selected their rulers. The allow the missile batteries to be placed in among civilians, so they should expect to reap the whirlwind.
It’s sad because there are a bunch of Palestinians here in Indianapolis marching a protesting downtown. Some of the idiots have the Star of David and a swastika on the same page! But they’re mad because Israel is handling its own business. Personally, I wish Israel had a hundred times its current weapons cache and would unleash its full arsenal on all its neighbors and be done with it!
Greywolfe: particularly if there were consequences to various actions, humans being the emotional and occasionally rational creatures that they are, there might actually be behavior change. Absent consequences, eh, not so much.
And that too is one primary focal point: the absolute and craven cowardice of Hamas (and for that matter, ALL of Islamists), hiding their weapons caches and firing positions cheek-by-jowl with nurseries, schools, residences, mosques and the like. That is de rigeur for Islam.

I like your comments! Being Jewish I have an added interest in the topic. And I like hearing how others feel. Thanks!
There is a great conversation going on at my place on this subject, too. 104 comments and I’d love more…SO good to hear so many people in support of Israel…
it’s SO important and you did a fantastic piece here, BZ..thanks.
WHO COULD EVER think that Israel doesn’t have the right to fight against this constant barrage? Who’s been the side ALWAYS breaking the peace, right?
WHY can’t our LEFT UNDERSTAND THAT?
But, we don’t hear the truth. Even that great blogger, Chuck, said he hadn’t heard Hamas had been hitting Israel again until he read my blog. And HE IS INFORMED!! We just don’t HEAR IT….
Until we CHANGE THE MEDIA, this world’s IN for it…
Happy New Year to you and yours, BZ….I wrote you an email…wanted an opinion!
Thanks xxx
Good blog.
I also blogged on this subject.
Happy New Year to you and yours and please be safe MY Friend
The people of the USA must to support Israel. We must encourage Israel to pursue this effort to an acceptable end! We need to be aware too, there are agents of Hamas and al-Qaida right here in America! We are next on their list of things to do and if Israel isn’t supported in their efforts to wipe out this pestilence called Hamas, we will soon see similar violence right here in the heartland of America.
Happy New Year to you and your BZ… Take care and guard your flank!!
Ang: thank you for visiting and please return many times. My stand with Israel is longstanding and firm.
Z: and as you and I both know, this is nothing new. Hamas has been making rocket and mortar attacks for two YEARS. So it’s now a massive affront because only NOW does Israel REact? I say, a bit of shame on Israel for TAKING so LONG.
DD2: I’ll go visit and take a look; thanks for visiting and thanks for taking the time to comment and, of course, Happy New Year!

You know what, Fred, I just wish I knew that Israel could count on our continued support via the president-elect and his incoming admin. Yes, I know he visited and I can only hope he saw a bit of reality for himself and that it SUNK IN with him. The positive thing I can say at this point is that neither Bush nor the president-elect have come out in public OPPOSITION to the bombing. I suppose that’s something given our current (and future!) State Department.

Thanks BZ. I’ve looked in on your blog for a bit now. Although I’m not very politically outspoken I am interested in politics and especially when it comes to Israel. I hear what others have to say in my synagogue and it’s always nice to hear of others support of Israel. Having grown up Christian and now Jewish I hear different opinions when it comes to Israel. Of course I’d love for their to be peace in the world but that isn’t the case right now. I like that every week at services we say a prayer for peace for both the U.S. and Israel.
Hope you have a Happy New Year!
P.S.
Sorry to ramble here but I couldn’t get your email to come up to send to you.
Ang: it should work. It’s milepost154@yahoo.com.

I am so proud of Israel for finally doing something. I hope they have the intestinal fortitude to hang on for the long run, anything less would be literal suicide.

So much to say about this that I can’t write it coherently on my own blog, let alone here. I just remember what God Himself said:
I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you!
Israel has allowed this to happen by being PC. IF when they get tired of rockets flying into their backyard, they leveled the everything from where the rockets come from it would take about 3 rockets and it would be over in Gaza.
Israel should know better than to take too much time, personally I think they should render Gaza uninhabitable for 100 years. Then they should turn their attention to Hezbollah. Iran is scared of Israel so all they will do is use their puppets. When the puppets are gone their can be peace in the area.
I guess that logic might be too hard for some.. *sigh*
BTW BZ, Happy new year my friend.
And a Happy New Year to everyone and thank you all for taking the time to visit and comment on my teeny little piece of the internet!

I’m not so sure obama will have what it takes. Bush, for sure, he has demonstrated that America can be dangerous and unpredictable to her enemies when provoked. Just the way it’s supposed to me.
