It’s Official: HALF of Americans DON’T pay income tax:

From Heritage.org’s The Foundry:

This year’s Index of Dependence on Government presented startling findings about the sharp increase of Americans who rely on the federal government for housing, food, income, student aid or other assistance. (See last week’s chart.)

Another eye-popping number was the percentage of Americans who don’t pay income taxes, which now accounts for nearly half of the U.S. population. Meanwhile, most of that population receives generous federal benefits.

“One of the most worrying trends in the Index is the coinciding growth in the non-taxpaying public,” wrote Heritage authors Bill Beach and Patrick Tyrrell. “The percentage of people who do not pay federal income taxes, and who are not claimed as dependents by someone who does pay them, jumped from 14.8 percent in 1984 to 49.5 percent in 2009.”

That means 151.7 million Americans paid nothing in 2009. By comparison, 34.8 million tax filers paid no taxes in 1984.

How does this happen? How can a full 50% of Americans pay no income tax whatsoever?

The Demorats talk and rail about “fair.” How is it “fair” that FIFTY PER-CENT of my very own — I can only hope — lawful citizens pay NO income tax whatsoever?

So it really does come down to two versions: PARASITES — those who pay no income tax — and are likely the ones demanding their “full share” of entitlements. . .

Or HOSTS — who pay everything else. Like me.

Explanations, anyone?

  1. BZ, the parasites will continue to feed off the host and suck the sap of the nation as long as the leaders in Washington, the States, and the Local governments until the host dies. Why? Because the leaders are the biggest parasites of all! My grandfather use to have a phrase that suiting “Don’t sh*t in your own nest”! Our leaders haven’t learned this yet and the crap getting deep!

  2. And how the HECK can the Left say “The rich don’t pay THEIR FAIR SHARE”?? I’d say they pay MORE than their fair share if fifty percent of American’s pay NOTHING, wouldn’t you?

  3. Average Americans tax overhaul:

All income from ALL sources taxable according to the following percentages:

From the first dollar to the poverty line, which for a family of four is currently $23,050, would be taxed at 1%.

From the poverty line to $50,000 over the poverty line would be taxed at 10%.

From $50,000 over the poverty line to $250,000 over the poverty line would be taxed at 20%.

All income above that would be taxed at the maximum rate of 30%.

Every American with any income at all would be a taxpayer! All Americans would enjoy the same lower rate for the lower income brackets and therefore would be being taxed fairly. NO credits would ever again be allowed under the IRS umbrella. Want to give out freebies, have balls enough to call them freebies! Institute programs to temporarily replace all the shit in the tax code right now, but have a workable plan to reduce most of them and eliminate as many as possible–but NOT within the IRS.

Imagine all Americans being taxpayers again. Maybe, after a while, people might have a little pride in themselves and actually like being a positive instead of a drain on the system.

  4. Ron: it’s true. And BOTH sides of the aisle are guilty time and again. And the hosts are getting sick of it.

Z: most of the “rich” are ALREADY at 30%.
