The above iteration of King Crimson came replete with
- Robert Fripp: guitar
- Bill Bruford: drums & percussion
- Adrian Belew: guitar & vocals
- Tony Levin: bass guitar
In some ways, this second version may be as good or even a tad superior to the original 1973 song (which I featured last Saturday, here). With the addition of Adrian Belew as second guitar (formerly played for Frank Zappa and David Bowie, also toured with Talking Heads), he is able to take the place, to a degree, of David Cross from the original — with some high fretboard sonic works and whammy bar usage.

Liked everything these guys did. Being a keyboard player myself and showing my bias, I always thought a keyboard player would have been a plus….when I hear their music I can hear the keyboard chops that I think needed to be there……in my head, I hear a B-3 backin’ them up!
But, of course, they did just fine without me!! 😉
Scotty: their occasional keyboard player in earlier versions was Robert Fripp, on Mellotron. In some ways, I miss hearing the Mellotron played in performance.

Ah, a Mellotron, I owned one, one of the most unreliable pieces of equipment I ever owned, next to my AMC Matador! Yep, I takes a lot of humility to admit ownership of a Matador!
Collectors still like to scoop them up. I don’t get it as the same sounds are now readily available in samplers.
I openly admit to my old fart status but, I like the music gear that technology has given us now. Carrying around those Hammonds in the old days probably contributed to my back being in the condition it’s in now!
I never made it far enough in the ranks of the music biz to afford a roadie!
The Hammond I use now weights a few ounces….the weight of a CD the virtual instrument software is on. Those Mellotrons weren’t exactly light either!
