This has been proven to me (as I have been in law enforcement for 35+ years) again and again and again — and the stupidity of jurors will continue for any number of reasons. This should come as, in truth, no shock whatsoever given the temper of the times and precedent.
Further proof of gullibility, doltishness, the sluggishly-moronic is the fact that the jury took only 11 hours to come to this abortion of a verdict.
In my opinion, Casey Anthony killed her baby, duct-taped her baby, and threw her baby into a swamp. Plain and simple. It was madness unleashed but, on the other hand, it was brilliant — not quite knowingly, though, I submit.
On Tuesday, Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murder in the first degree regarding her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony (video here). The defense team clapped and her relatives gave thanks. Casey Anthony is 25 years old. Today.
When the crime occurred, Casey Anthony was three years younger. Caylee’s skull was found in a Florida swamp in 2008, along with other body parts, wrapped in duct tape. Her daughter, Caylee, was two years old when she was killed (08-09-05 to 06-16-08). Caylee “disappeared” in June of 2008.
Let us not forget that Casey Anthony purposely decided to not report her daughter missing. Caylee’s skeletal remains were discovered December 11, 2008, six months after she was reported missing by her grandmother, Cindy Anthony.
Plus this:
On July 13, 2008, while doing yard work, Cindy and George Anthony found a notice from the post office for a certified letter affixed on their front door. George Anthony picked up the certified letter from the post office on July 15, 2008, and found that his daughter’s car was in a tow yard.[7] When George picked up the car, both he and the tow yard attendant noted a strong smell coming from the trunk. Both later testified that they believed the odor to be that of a decomposing body.[8] When the trunk was opened it contained a bag of trash, but no human remains.[9]
Caylee Anthony was reported missing to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on July 15, 2008,[3] by her grandmother, Cindy. During the same call, Casey Anthony acknowledged to the 911 operator that Caylee had been missing “for 31 days.”[10][11] A distraught Cindy also told the 911 operator “There is something wrong. I found my daughter’s car today and it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.”[12]
Casey Anthony faces a one year penalty exposure behind four misdemeanor counts of false statements to law enforcement. The judge could decree her already “time served.”
Juries are ignorant and jaded; defense attorneys know this. And defense attorneys have been pushing, clearly, over the years, that unless a case plays out just as it does on CSI (or any of its myriad spin-offs), there is no evidence.
The brain-dead amongst us concurs.
I was, a number of times, subject to the Theatre that is a trial. And Theatre it is — bordering on insane Kabuki Theatre and rarely interrupted by judges because there are so few that are courageous. They predominantly quiver in fear of being overbearing. I proffer, in prime, Judge Lance Ito — the most publicly cowardly of judges in recent years. The most courageous of jurists I’ve ever witnessed? Multiple times? Clearly, Sacramento Superior Court Judge, the Honorable Gary E. Ransom.
Accidental or not, Caylee Anthony is dead and Casey, her mother, will soon be a free woman.
What happened? I submit this, in my opinion: Casey was 22, young, ignorant, self-absorbed due to her parents’ fluffing-up of her self-worth. She had a child. She wanted to party. Her child committed some kind of behavior that pissed her off. She reacted. Her child was dead. She had to hide her dead child. I had two specific cases with my time in Detectives that dealt with those situations and motives.
Still and all:
Despite the facts trotted out, juries don’t want to draw lines. They lack the capability to do so. Further, they ask: “This could be me. Would I want to condemn me?” They choose not. And they choose the simplest of defensive doubts. Because they are, at heart, simple-minded.
No more complicated than this.
Juries are stupid because, of course, if you haven’t figured out how to relinquish yourself of jury duty. . .

P.S.
There is a rather special Hell reserved for Casey Anthony. She either killed her daughter in cold blood or accidentally. And then did her best to shove her association with her daughter away. Completely away.
P.P.S.
When anyone says something similar to “you cannot expect everyone to act the same way upon news of the murder of a loved one or a wife or mother or father or ______.
In reaction, I always say: bullshit. In my experience, it is PRECISELY those whom I suspect FIRST.
P.P.P.S.
Casey Anthony is young: she can always have more children.
OK BZ, you have seen way more of this than any of us. The question I ask, is the Prosecution inept or the jurors stupid? Or both?
The Prosecution, under our system, must prove the charges. They have a lot of resources to call on.
I have a long term acquaintance who is a defense lawyer. He sees his job as making sure the prosecution proves his client is guilty. Since his client usually is guilty, he goes the plea bargain route. If the prosecutions case is full of holes, he doesn’t cut them any slack. Says it is the only way to keep the system somewhat honest.
Hi Boys and Girls, Uncle Fred here with a word of caution: If your Mommie moves to Florida and takes you with her, and she puts duct tape and a smelly rag on your face, you are SCREWED..
She’s going to walk…
Bye now boys and girls.. And remember, be careful, juries can be STOOPID!
WSF: both.
TF: facts in evidence. And cast aside by alleged “human” beings.
BZ
Watched it all.
Disappointing at verdict, but it does not surprise me.
We have a LOT of stupid people out there folks.
That is another reason to be “judged by 12 versus carried by 6”.
It will not surprise me at all if the mom Casey is found dead with a needle still stuck in her arm.
Quite common for “party girls”.
what a deal. just another nail in the coffin of civilization as we knew it.
Mr C: there is a Hell foreshadowed for Casey. She will either encounter it sooner or later. It will be infinitely WORSE later than now.
And because she is a stupid bitch, she will choose now.
Can’t make it any more plain.

BZ,
In my opinion the jurors were correct even though I also see her as guilty, it is the prosecution that screwed this up by charging her as they did.
They should have charged her with covering up a murder or accessory to murder and that would have produced a conviction with the evidence they brought forth.
This is exactly what was wrong in the O.J. Simpson case years ago. If they had charged him with similar it would have seen him behind bars.
This also has the benefit of negating ‘Double Jeopardy’ in that if more and stronger evidence is found out the prosecution can go back with the capital murder charge as it was not used to begin with.
There is a rather special Hell reserved for Casey Anthony. She either killed her daughter in cold blood or accidentally. And then did her best to shove her association with her daughter away. Completely away.
Well, that’s very true because in the end, if she’s getting away with murder, then God will have the final say.
Still, even though people like her or OJ walk, I’m still all for our system of jurors prudence. If jurors are stupider now, I think one can thank the progressive education system and were kids are taught that justice should be social, not blind or equal.
First of all, BZ, thanks for you service as an LEO. This old Jarhead loves him some cops.
So you know what I’m going to ask the defense. If Casey Anthony didn’t murder her daughter, (and what are the chances of THAT?) who did? There doesn’t seem to be a viable suspect in the “beautiful life” of Casey Anthony.
What was the cause of death? Just curious.
How was the body transported. Any witnesses.
Do you buy the idea that dad helped her coverup an accident and botched it so badly? Since dad is an ex-cop it’s quite possible he thought he thought he could manage an investigation.
Seems like more than enough doubt in a capital case.
She may have walked on this one, but she WILL get her place in Hell, possibly sooner than later…
A true miscarriage of justice.
Christopher, clearly the prosecution wasn’t “perfect”; none are. They made mistakes. But what is termed “undercharging” also has its problems in terms of sentencing; judges frequently ask: “If it’s not a capital case (or a more serious case) then why should a lengthy sentence attach?”
AstroNerdBoy: first, thank you for visiting, and thank you for taking the time to comment. Please come back and visit frequently. And you “hit it” in terms of the education aspect.
Mike Florey: also sir, thank you very kindly for visiting and taking the time to comment; please come back many times! And thank YOU for YOUR service, sir. And the most valid of questions, indeed.
Ducky: here was the prosecution’s most egregious mistake: they didn’t provide any kind of viable motive. And, having worked as a Detective in Child Abuse and Homicide for my 2,000+ officer department with a 2-million + population, and having worked three markedly-similar cases, I can proffer what I believe occurred, because I’ve seen it time and again:
This happened in 2008. Casey Anthony was a highly IMMATURE 22-year-old then. She liked to party and had, essentially, no business raising a child. She should have given the child up for adoption or, lacking that, claimed ignorance and turned her daughter over to mom and dad.
I’ll wager her daughter somehow pissed her off that hour with some kind of “bad” display, wouldn’t stop crying, wouldn’t “mind,” or some type of behavior that jerked Casey’s immature chain.
She reacted viscerally, physically, immediately, and killed the child. The rest was a cover-up.
BZ
better 10 guilty people go free than 1 innocent person be incarcerated….Um. well, Um…
Look, the system sucks sometimes but it’s the best one going. The prosecutor overplayed their hand, it was a circumstantial case and it wasn’t really that strong.
Rush said it best The only reason this was an issue at all is because the daughter made it out of the womb. Where’s the outrage over the millions killed a little earlier in life?
OJ, Casey.. wont be the last, our jury’s are made up of public school educated people. It’s going to get a lot easier for lawyers to get people off… FACT.
Excluding OJ of course because of the celebrity status, but does anyone honestly believe the jury would have made the same judgement if some big, mean and scary black guy had done exactly what Casey did would have received the same verdict?
I don’t believe our society is racists, but I do believe we bring with us a certain prejudicial perceptions and a young pretty white woman would be harder to convict.
Not for me though. I would have sent her straight to death row.
BZ,
I understand but then again sentencing guidelines go with a charge laid so there would be no ” lengthy sentence attach(ed)”.
Sentencing is argued in another phase as was this case.
What I state should also be obvious in this weighing in at least ones jurors statements and what they/we have to do should you find yourself in that situation, which I myself have and let alone as a Foreman of said body.
The prosecution in both cases I state messed-up and failed their respective communities, period. You cannot fault your fellow citizens for failing the law as they did indeed uphold that end of the bargain we call American Justice called “Reasonable Doubt”.
Did I like the outcome? Absolutely not! But I stand on what I said here and this is the only place I have ventured to speak on it.
