Again, another case where the Religious Left sacrifice facts, lives and hurt the environment only so that their emotions can be assuaged and they can “feel better.”
Mr Obama’s recent news conference on Monday, June 29th:
WASHINGTON — Aiming to keep the focus on climate change legislation, President Barack Obama put a plug in for administration efforts to make lamps and lighting equipment use less energy.
“I know light bulbs may not seem sexy, but this simple action holds enormous promise because 7 percent of all the energy consumed in America is used to light our homes and businesses,” the president said, standing alongside Energy Secretary Steven Chu at the White House.
And that means embracing the CFL bulb.
The ugly truth is that CFLs poison the environment by ensuring that the toxic element mercury is released both in your home through potential breakage, and by insertion into our soil and water through refuse sites. The mercury within is poisoning and killing workers assembling these bulbs. There is NO mercury in incandescent bulbs.
DO NOT BUY CFLs. REFUSE to purchase them. Stick to regular bulbs.
Like ethanol, they are a harmful, wasteful Religious Left and ObamaScam.
BZ
But BZ you dont realize that mercury hurts the brain function of people. The dems just want everyone to be brain addled by decree.
The ones i have bought, since stores around me no longer sell incandesent bulbs except for the shaped ones that go into chandeliers, arent lasting any longer and seem to loose brightness rather quickly.
haven’t bought one yet.
WMD: Don’t know where you live, but I can get tons of incandescent bulbs at Sam’s Club, WalMart, Target, Costco. I buy them by the gross. I must have 10 packs of 20, each in 60 and 100 watt. I have them stored in my outside shed. There isn’t ONE CFL in my house and I’ll REFUSE to put them in.
Stock up now, folks. Stock up now whilst you still can.
BZ
Remember that it was George H. W. Bush that in his last days signed the National Energy Act. That Act is what is bringing CFL’s to the forefront now, it does away with incandesent lamps.
Obama is just following what Bush put into place many years ago.
I do agree, CFL’s suck, Halogen is the way to go, true color.
I can buy incandescent also, but that’s coming to an end unless we get this legislation turned around.
New lamps, I understand, will not take an incandescent.
Who would have ever thought we be told what kind of light bulb we can buy!!!!
BZ you blogged about this a coupla years back to my recollection. And I agree. I refuse to bring that crap into my house. But one wonders if the regular light bulbs will soon be made illegal.
Smoking will be illegal and wiping your ass with actual toilet tissue will be illegal too. Only politicians who smoke have the right to make it illegal for the rest of us…Do as I say not as I do seems to be more popular than ever with those of this ilk…
Right.
I have been stocking up on incandescent bulbs for a while now. Walmart still has some, but not a lot in stock. We have recessed lighting in a lot of places in our high ceilings and the incandescents are working fine and for a long time.
We have too many recessed lighting type bulbs and the curly ones are too costly. My mom tried them and they hurt her eyes because of the dim lighting they put off and also the type of lighting. She took them back.
People with autism like my son who has sensory issues with his eyes will go nuts with these. Especially the ones that flicker before they come on. It will effect his homework and attitude.
Obama and the elitists on the left WON’T have these in their homes. You can bet ALGORE won’t.
I refuse to buy them and if I have to take it to court as a violation of my right to choose, I will.
I am all for new inventions to SAVE MONEY, but NOT for the purpose of putting money in LIBERALS lying pockets, and supporting their Green religious agenda.
Since this was brought up: We all know Bush started this and he started the bailouts. The only politician on the right that I know of who has come out and said man made G.W. isn’t true is Sarah Palin. Which some of you here don’t like and that is o.k. I am open as well. If she does/says things I think are wishy washy then I won’t support her. Unless Washington changes her I think she would be the only one to stand up against this crud based on her record.
Bush opened the door for the liberal elitists to come in and move in fast with their marxist agenda with lightening speed in several areas. It was a dumb move and yes he is culpable for it. That said, he didn’t open the door purposefully desiring a fascist dictatorship.
I voted for Alan Keyes in the Primary by the way. I know that is a shock to some here who are Obama fans.
I would be lying if I said I didn’t like him though. He wasn’t a narcissist like Obama, and while he messed up he did keep us safe during his 8 years of service. The enemy wasn’t emboldened like they are with Obama at the helm.
There were things Bush did that I liked such as his Tax cuts which is the POLAR opposite of Obama’s desire to control our lives and TAKE OUR MONEY!
But I called Bush to task for several things he did unlike the Obama followers who constantly blame Obama’s desire to rush through a fascist agenda on Bush.
Bush has nothing to do with Obama’s motives, he just layed the foundation in a few areas for Obama to accomplish his Fascist agenda.
Obama isn’t “just following” Bush, he is using it to set new standards and quickly bring in his Marxist agenda.
Obama has tripled the debt in the first two months in office and set a historical record. Bush didn’t do that.. He spent, but didn’t set a historical record. Shoot I can names some things Clinton did that outshine Obama!
Don’t be surprised if Obama goes as far as cheating in 2012 to win in the same fashion as Al Franken, and then does a ‘hondura’ move in changing our constitution so that he can stay longer. A Fascist is a Fascist. I don’t see him going quietly.
We have a Marxist on our hands. He isn’t like any president we have ever had.. He is worse than Jimmy Carter. Bill Clinton was a better president than Obama.
Whoa! Rivka, mentioning your son is cause enough to write your Congressman. This is truly ridiculous!
Yes, stock up now on the old ones. They can be bartered as well as used.
Boy, I wish I’d bought some of the old Freon before it went off the market. The price of that stuff went through the roof.
Rivka: sounds like it’s time for you to make a post for BZ. . .
Ranando: I wasn’t aware of that component in the early bill, but I wouldn’t be terribly surprised at this point.
Maggie: are you talking of an entirely NEW size socket for all lamps??
ASM826: thanks again for taking the time to comment; I too wish I’d had some of the elder freon. But at least I do, literally, have cases of the older incandescents. They’ll have to conduct a “house-to-house” on me.
But hey, there’s more: everyone recall the final 300 pages rushed to HR 2454 at 3am on Friday? Part of those 300 pages included provisions that MANDATED that the house you SELL must be federally inspected to ensure it is up to FEDERAL MANDATED ENERGY specs on all levels — or you won’t be ABLE to sell it.
Never heard about THAT aspect, did you??
BZ
BZ, something like that. We built a new house a year ago. As we worked with the lighting people, certain light fixtures (and lamps) were ruled out because they would not accommodate the bulb requirements.
Maggie: oh man, BOHICA. . .
BZ
Stock up on incandescant light bulbs… Congress will want to outlaw them as they are environmentally safe and cost less… can’t have that!
AJ
They are already on the illegal list because of the bill Bush signed, They are supposed to be illegal by 2012. And many places have already stopped selling them.
WMD – Yup! Stock up while the stocking is good.
Mind you the Congress mandated digital TV, too…
And a clean environment.
And, well, lots of nice things that just can’t be done because we won’t pay attention to what Congress mandates.
My bet is on semiconductors, like OLEDs, not CFLs… of course my bet is also on printed solar panels on roll-to-roll presses already being done by a company that has more orders than it can expand to fill… yet that doesn’t get us energy independent, either.
I’m also betting on printed circuits on roll-to-roll presses for cell phones, netbooks, and anything not needing a lot of storage… but then I’m also betting on 1 TB per cubic inch by 2010 and we are almost there now.
Congress ain’t so hot at picking winners and losers: look at social security, medicaire, VA health care, ‘super fund’ (whatever did happen to that?), biofuels, ethanol (hellllooooo high corn prices! so sorry to you folks south of the border, we really didn’t mean to ruin your native farming industry by NAFTA and then hike the prices on you through biofuels… really!), and a whole host of other things.
I expect that actual filament bulbs, as bulbs, will not be sold, but as ‘entertainment devices’ or other commodities from China? Uh-huh. We are so good at categorizing that the categories are meaningless… just like the Left wants.
But then 2012 is now a long way off by the FFT. I’ll stock up on that other CO2 producer: ammo. That looks to be a really pressing need in the very near future.
Rivka,
You say about Bush, “while he messed up he did keep us safe during his 8 years of service.”
Bush was at the helm during the worst attack on American soil in our entire history? And he had evidence that bin laden was determined to attack us using airplanes.
Coming from someone living in Manhattan at the time, George W. Bush did NOT keep us safe. Not me, not the 3,000 people who were killed.
And here was the article of which I spoke earlier;)
