Poll: More Than Half of Russians Want the Soviet Union Back

Russia PollFrom DefenseOne.com:

The US polling company Pew Research Center has just released a survey of Russian and Ukrainian attitudes to what’s going on in eastern Ukraine, and one fact caught our eye: 55% of Russian adults think it’s a “great misfortune” that the Soviet Union no longer exists.

One very interesting and salient point from the article, however:

Of Russians under 30—who would have been at most seven years old in 1991—some 40% lamented the USSR’s demise, Pew found. Again, looking at the population data, which show some 27 million people born between 1984 and 1996, that means about 10 million Russian adults long for the restoration of a country and political system of which they have no meaningful personal memory.

Vladimir Putin is more than happy to attempt to comply with that Russian wish.

  1. Russia is a “closed, secret sinister society”.
As long as Putin lives, same with his trained henchmen, their will be no real peace in our World.
    Putin has no replacement.
My prediction is that one day soon, China will obliterate Russia in such a fashion that will allow them to take over quickly, without waiting for the “half-live of Uranium” to take place. They have common borders.

  2. The under 30’s don’t understand the oppression the former Soviet Union had on all it’s people, and as large as it was, I believe there were varying degrees of oppression depending on the regions in the Empire. Aren’t the older people talking to the young to teach them what really happened and what was going on? Either no, or the young aren’t listening. Getting the young on board is how these ideals grow and spread. Example, the Nazi movement and the Hitler Youth.
