Senator Ben Nelson: The Arm Twisting Worked

The Demorats attempted to extort Senator Ben Nelson’s ‘rat vote for ObamaKare by threatening to close down Offutt Air Force Base in his state of Nebraska.

Nelson, the “60th Vote,” on Sunday:
“Change is never easy, but change is what’s necessary in America,” Nelson said at a morning news conference, announcing his support as a snowstorm raged outside.
And who said disgusting, obscene tactics don’t work?  At least the Demorats are strong enough to use them.  The Republicans consist, these days, of unorganized, unaligned, quivering pansies.

  1. I think I saw the ratio in Nebraska polling was something like 80/20 AGAINST signing this bill, and I think voters will have LONG memories on this one. He may just have committed political suicide.

  2. Wafflers can be bought.

Nelson, Landrieu and the rest who have waffled all have prices and can be bought. They enjoy the momentary spotlight, the kowtowing and then assuming the position once the payment is received.

Too bad the rest of us will pay for these prostitutes.

  3. Oh, c’mon, that ‘threat’ was a lie and even Nelson repudiated it.

Don’t worry, with the current health care plan, the insurance companies win big.

  4. Only the right would actually accuse Obama of sacrificing our national defense for politics and
this lame ass health care bill that is worthless.

Go to Nelson’s twitter page. the repudiation is there.

  5. Ah, the insurance companies!

Nice to hear that finally brought up, as this bill, as it stands, is a bail-out to them with all sorts of extra special goodies for them. I’m so glad to hear that those on the Left support yet another pork ridden, tax dollar infused corporate bailout!

I am against this bailout, this ‘health care plan’ for it makes us poorer, the companies richer and entwines government and industry far too much in the lives of ordinary Americans.

I am ever so glad to hear that someone on the Left supports pork, goodies handed out to corporations and the deeper entrenchment of corporate lobbyists with the government. Plus, of course, the opposite of tort reform in the bill which will encourage more lawsuits, more costs, and that, too, will get passed along to the American populace.

Now just don’t try telling me this is either hope or change, because it is more of what we have and far, far worse. But then payouts to banks, lending institutions, auto companies, and all the rest of TARP and the stimulus does demonstrate that the current leadership is all for bailouts of large corporations.

    Good job!

What is that called when government supports, dictates to and otherwise seeks to control business directly and we only have a patina of liberty left? Seems those guys in Italy and Germany in the 1920’s had a word for it…

I disagree. I think The GOP hears the Tea Party movement and conservative uproar. Keep in mind:

Every single Republican in both houses of Congress voted against President Obama’s budget.

Every single Republican except the two Senators from Maine voted against the stimulus package.

Every Republican in the House of Representatives opposes Obamacare.

They are currently doing everything within their power to stop this. Unfortunately, we are the minority power in both houses of Congress, and the presidency.

  7. I’m confused as to why you are going after Republicans in this post. Nelson is a Democrat and even the liberal Republicans stuck together this time. You can’t ask for more back bone from the Republicans right now.

Even John McCain, (whom I’m not a fan of), is on the right side of this issue.
