From TheWrap.com:
Sony to Release ‘The Interview’ in Theaters, on VOD Despite Threats (Exclusive)
by Sharon Waxman
After a national clamor to release the film despite threats, Sony finds a way to get the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy out there
Sony Pictures will release the canceled Seth Rogen–James Franco comedy “The Interview” in theaters and on video on demand, TheWrap has learned.
The plan is to release the film simultaneously in participating theaters and via video on demand. A number of independent theaters — including The Plaza Theater in Atlanta, MX Theaters in St. Louis, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Dallas/Fort Worth and others — have announced they will distribute the film. MX said it would be selling tickets as of 2 p.m. CT Tuesday.
The release will likely be in the 200-theater range; exhibitors typically cap the rollout of films that offer day-and-date VOD at around 300 sites, because it usually cuts attendance significantly. The move has reportedly exacerbated relations between major theater chains and the studio. Day-and-date VOD releases are a hot-button issue for the major exhibitors.
Two questions for you:
1. Why did Sony change its mind?
2. Would you feel “safe” seeing this movie despite threats?
In my opinion the threats are vacuous. We just shut down the Norks’ internet. If I want to see THE INTERVIEW, a ludicrous threat from an absurd little country run by a chubby parody of himself won’t stop me.

I’m pretty sure I would not go to a theater showing that right now.
And I’m pretty sure that, if these folks who hacked are serious, I’m not driving by the Sony studios, which I do to get to a couple of my friends’ homes fairly often!
I wondered if N K had shut its own internet down in fears that SONY was going to put it on the web….think that could have been a possibility?
Anyway, they’re talking about getting the WH. hmmm
You know, someone on FOX made sense when he suggested nobody’d make as insulting a film about the French or German presidents….obviously, they’re not NEARLY as NUTSO as the CREEP “UN” , but……..maybe it was just a bad idea anyway?
I like to think I’d have the guts to go the theater…I’m a little ashamed to say I don’t think I would. But I’d LOVE to give the middle finger to UN, that’s for sure! And SONY sure did!
I HATE that they originally backed down and I hate even MORE the LIE OF OBAMA that they should have talked to him, as if HE’S got the answers? And, of course, we know SONY DID talk to him, so………liar liar pants on fire.
I’d like to see Obama go to a theater showing the UN MOVIE!
If it opens this weekend in a theater near me, I shall be attending. Of course, I am always armed off duty.
