but….but…BZ! most Americans are so strapped they can’t afford to take three days off work to stand in line for one! oh, the horror! or they might not have enough movies loaded onto their ipod to last long enough!
Our “poor” make the middle class of 98% of the world’s countries look poor.

I have noticed one bad economy marker. It seems that the dark red or maroon color for cars is coming back in favor. I havent seen so many new cars with that color since Jimmy “the Peanutbrain” was in office.
America, the nation of whiny, sniveling, spoiled brats who wouldn’t know hardship if it jumped up and bit them on the ass. but… Obama will CHANGE all that, right?
I can afford one but I honestly don’t want one. I don’t use cell phones either. I don’t like being at everyone’s beck and call wherever I go.
WMD: ya know, I think I’ll take that color over the generic SILVER that EVERYONE seems to drive where I live.
Gayle: when I retire, you’ll have to contact me with SMOKE SIGNALS and nothing else!

I disagree BZ. The economy is bad unless of course you are making enough money to afford the high gas prices (thank G-d I do not own a car) -can afford high food prices, clothes prices, et al. It is expensive to live and survive these days and save a penny.
Those iPod phones et al are for those that even in a bad economy it does not affect their pocketbook. The rest of us just have to muddle through and thank G-d for a roof over our heads and the meager meals we still can afford to buy.
The other factor is greed – me, me, me, and me and I gotta have it and I will sacrifice a mortgage payment or a car note just to keep up with the Jones. All about prestige my friend, not being able to always afford something.
Do not be fooled by the greed and better off financially of our society. We are in bad shape economically speaking – I know – I visit The Hill enough to hear what is going on and it is not good.
Diversify your money via several banks, no eggs in one basket anymore or you may lose it all.
Layla: on one hand I can see your point. But on the other hand, the peeps I saw in the Apple Store were young and not just Caucasoid but ALL mixes. Okay, perhaps they’re strapped but, if so, then they’re dumber than a box of rocks to be making such an illogical purchase as a $400 iPhone. But hey, these are probably the same idiots that are buying homes that they KNOW they can’t afford and making ME and YOU pay for it!
BZ
Excellent, BZ! You summed up succinctly what many take paragraph after paragraph of articles to try and get across.
layla,
We still have an economy that is the envy of many governments in the world. What has changed, is our standards. We have become very privileged and can’t recognize how great we’ve had it, and still have it. The definition of “recession” now apparently means “reduced growth” .
Even the poorest among us have a standard of living that should not be taken for granted.
Go down to the nearest Best Buy and ask what the hell people of middle and lower income are doing buying dvds, players, gamebox and playstations, bluetooths, ipods, and iphones if their pocketbooks are hurting.

Wordsmith,
Exactly! You said it.
