Boy; go away for a while and the world turns upside down. War with Russian and Georgia. John Edwards’ Love Child. And oh-so-much-more.
Then there’s Brett Favre, now quarterback for the New York Jets. The Jets??
Some people believe the entire Brett Favre thing was a matter of massive arrogance on his part. Me? I think he simply made a mistake and retired too early — particularly in light of his performance last season with the Packers. It was damned good.
I believe he realized his mistake, and the only thing he could think of was to return. From there, the situation became complicated and troubling. I can understand Green Bay wanting to be able to predict and plan for its future in terms of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On the other hand, I can understand Brett wanting to come back. Rarely have I seen someone actually enjoy playing the game of football like he enjoys playing the game of football.
I don’t credit Brett Favre with being a nuclear physicist; I credit him with being a legendary quarterback who had a great season last year, retired prematurely, couldn’t go back to Green Bay (still, very sad) but still wanted to — and still can — play great pro football.
On one hand, I’m irate at the Packers; on the other, I can understand their position.
But this won’t surprise you: I’ll not be watching as many Packers games as I used to. Looks like some Jets games are in my future. Hmm: Brett The Jet.

P.S.
Things on the family front are still tumultuous. I want to thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and kind wishes.
BZ, glad you are back!! Yeah, I agree with you on Brett. Kinda hard to retire from something that you really love. Usually after a cooling off period, you want to go back to doing what you left.
I just wish that he could have really ended his Hall of fame career at Green Bay. Would have been fitting. But now we get to watch Brett the Jet play for NY and still enjoy his talent!!!!
That’s why I’m torn; I too would very much rather had him culminate his career in Green Bay. This much I do know: GB also fears that Favre will pull fans from their franchise to another. And he will. Myself included. I wish Aaron Rodgers good luck, but my allegiance just got split, if but for a while.

Brett is a great quarterback. But I am not fond of him or Green Bay. As far as I see it, do not play the, “I am retiring” then expect the red carpet – the whole thing was a show. So now the Jets have them and I wish him and the Jets the best. But Brett better produce – you know NY fans!
Sorry if I am not being too nice, my hometown is Chicago, I am a die hard Bears fan, always was, always will be and anyone coming out of the Packers to me is not worth my time, not even Brett.
I remember what they did when “Sweetness” – Walter Payton died and not long after we played our first game after his death. Of all places with Green Bay – the arch rivals The Packers. A moment of silence was called, and they all BOOED from Green Bay, and it was not only the fans, but The Green Bay Packers too. I believe Brett was on the team back then too. Shame on them all.
Give me the Bears!
Not much into football these days, but I like Brett. Missed ya, glad you are back and still remembering your family ordeal. Hope things get better for you all in a few days.
Layla: yes, I always enjoyed the entire Black And Blue Division, the Packers, Bears, Lions, Vikings. I’m kinda old so my favorite Bears were Dick Butkus, Doug Atkins, Brian Piccolo, Gale Sayers, Bill George.

To heck with Brett… If he don’t wanna retire, I WILL!… wishful thinking… Damn… 🙁
I’m not a football fan, but I can at least understand someone making a mistake by retiring too early and wanting to get back into the game. I wish him nothing but the best.
That also goes for you regarding the family problems, BZ. I hope everything will work out okay.
You’re still on my prayers.
Good to see you back at it.
It is odd to see that face under the Jets logo.
